My MIL is Grandeur today.  Wonder if they'll keep their itinerary

Well, we're still South of Charleston, and in the space of two hours it went south real bad.  Slowed from 15 to 5 knots in bow seas, and the storm is north and east of us, so if Grandeur pokes out of the Chesapeake, it will be a sporty ride.  Forecast right now is 10-16 ft seas, 30-40 knot winds, going to 12-19 ft seas tonight for the area out 100 miles from the mouth of the Bay.

She texted us that they're staying in port overnight as ordered by the Coastguard.

We are on Anthem.  Heard at muster from the Captain that we will stay in port after all. We will be departing on Monday afternoon.  So much for the shops and casino.  And... we’ll have cell service.  👍

Can you get on and off the ship until Monday?

Just heard guy at bar say he asked and we can leave ship tomorrow if we’d like.  Didn’t sound too official though.

I would go into NYC for the day but we have been on Anthem a bunch.  I wouldn't take my car though, maybe they will run shuttles to the PATH station.

Is there ever any compensation from the insurance company for the trip I didn't take under these circumstances?

TIA

There are insurance policies that would cover this kind of situation however any compensation you received from the cruise line would be deducted from any settlement.  In this case you received a 100% refund so there would be no payout.  If someone had flights hotels booked then it would cover that.  Basic cruise line insurance covers the cruise only.

Actually Grandeur is anchored in the bay tonight south of the bay bridge and will move out sometime tomorrow.  Several ships have been impacted by this storm.  Carnival Pride is following the storm and in some heavy seas and will dock in Baltimore Monday am, instead of tomorrow.

Frustrated. Completely understand the decision to keep us in port til Monday.  Seems like  more could be done in terms of compensation, though. No shopping, no casino. Certainly it isn’t RCs fault about the weather. Not sure what would make this better. Could  be home until we leave for Bermuda. I live 45 minutes from port.

We're they allowed to open the Casino? Are they still adding NY sales tax to the drinks? My wife could live with the sailing delay if the casinos were allowed to open :)

I was surprised to read in another topic that CocoCay can still be missed due to seas on normal itinerary even with the pier they built. Figured that is why they built the pier, because rough seas caused so many itinerary changes. Apparently if seas still rough ship can't be docked. I guess ship would bang against dock since  pier not protected. Also noted seas wash over pier if bad enough.

Having sailed through a couple storms through the years I would honestly always prefer to stay in port and miss all the rocking and rolling. Plenty of food and drink and closed off from cold places on the Anthem. I know it doesn't make up for a cruise to warm Bahamas but better than laying around home for most part. Especially true if youget a nice compensation package from the line.

Good luck to all.

NCL ESCAPE is just arriving at Kings Wharf Bermuda now 6:21 am EST 7:21 AM Bermuda time.

Grandeur still reports as anchored in Bay.

Carnival Pride has no updated position reported. Last position 7 hours ago off Charleston.

We had a drink at the closed casino bar last night.  Folks with casino benefits approached the bar for their drinks and were turned away by a sign that said their drinks were only available while the casino was open.  I’m not a big gambler, this was new to me.

Top Tier is at 11 this morning in the theater.  That’s a switch for us, it’s been in 270 in the past.

If we look past that big orange lifeboat, we have a nice view of Bayonne.  Can’t complain, this cabin was cheap.
