Anthem changed itinerary 11/16/19

Recommended Posts

Cruise lines have no control over weather.   If you don't know this, or don't like this, maybe you should choose another type of vacation.  Changes happen.  Cruise lines don't want to disappoint passengers but sometimes things are out of their control.   Also remember they can't just decide at the last to dock some place.   They must get permission from port authorities and there needs to be a place to dock.

So, did RCI do this to appease the masses left on the ship, or to make more money going to CocoCay?

Appeasing the masses left or less port charges on Cococay than Bermuda...we already paid port charges for Cococay.  They are also now saying this late in the season there are less services available in Bermuda.

Yes as to fewer services in Bermuda.  We were there in October and the restaurant at Gibbs lighthouse was closed for lunch.

Anthem this week was 7 nights, not 8 as stated previously by someone. Woke up to much better temperatures.  Looks like we are just south of Fayetteville, but another map on the TV shows us further south.  All I know is I am going to get some use out of my balcony today!

A land vacation can be ruined by storm or even political unrest.  At least on a cruise there are options to change course and avoid a situation. You can't do anything if bad weather or other circumstances happen on the land vacation you chose.

I’d love to use my balcony but it’s almost flooded.  Looks like the sun is trying to peek out so maybe that’ll help with the drying.

There are insurance policies that would cover this kind of situation however any compensation you received from the cruise line would be deducted from any settlement.  In this case you received a 100% refund so there would be no payout.  If someone had flights hotels booked then it would cover that.  Basic cruise line insurance covers the cruise only.

Actually most third party insurance policies wouldn't cover the flights and hotels booked in this situation because the reason for cancellation isn't one of the covered events.  The cruise wasn't canceled by the cruise line and still sailed; you are the one making the decision to cancel here.  If you have cancel for any reason insurance usually then it's only a partial reimbursement of any non-refundable travel expenses.

No refund or credit of any kind for the money spent on the insurance policy covering the cruise not taken?

Not typically.

Maybe most policies won't cover it but like I said there are some, at least there are in Canada.  I know because it is one of the more popular policies that I sell.  At any rate it's best for people to check their own individual policies for coverages as there is so much variation.

This is true; transport around Bermuda is not easy and is time consuming.  I think at this point in the year the ferry runs a different schedule and may not even run to St.George from Dockyard at all.  I am sure someone will correct me if this is inaccurate; but offseason Bermuda does tend to "close up" a bit.

As I am reading through this post - I was thinking how many go on vacations and are not given alternatives when bad weather occurs? Most people are stuck - period.  I live in a shore town and have seen rainy days and storms coming up the coast and vacationers having to stay inside their hotel rooms(with kids) and NOT able to use the beaches or pools.  No one gave them money back nor did they expect compensation for the weather conditions.  We can't control weather.  I believe that Royal is doing the safe alternative and hoping for the best. If you are flying somewhere, airlines cancel flights and then an entire vacation may be missed!  I may not be happy when it rains on my parade(vacation), but time on a cruise ship with my spouse and a drink in hand is still more enjoyable compared to work - LOL

When the ship was in port in Bayonne for 2 days,  were the shops and casino open?  I thought the ship had to be at least 5 miles from shore in order to open the shops and casino.  Were live shows, movies and other activities available on board the ship during the days “stuck” in Bayonne?

Other than tax and port charge being reimbursed, I never understand the OBC/Cruise Credit mentality. If it's a mechanical issue then yes some credit would be expected but weather happens. Sept through Nov is usually the worse for storms in the Caribbean. Anyone booking a cruise at that time, especially those who follow Cruise Critic should know that and roll with it.
