ABOUT YOUR UPCOMING TRAVELS

Dear Guest,

We know many of you have been keeping tabs on the weather in anticipation for your cruise tomorrow. Along with the help of our Chief Meteorologist, James Van Fleet, and our team of nautical experts we have been, too.

Currently, the situation is very fluid. The storm is quickly developing and with this particular storm, the swells have been higher than what’s being reported on the daily forecasts. So, we are being extra cautious and ensuring we have a good plan in place. Our goal is to always stay as close to our original itinerary. But given this information, this may not be the case.

We’re being as transparent as possible, as early as possible, to help you plan the best cruise. Below, are the considerations we’re making through this decision process given what we already know:

  • First and foremost, your safety is our highest priority.
  • We don’t want to make a decision too early and miss out on being able to take you to the Bahamas.
  • Due to the way the storm’s moving and the swells it’s creating, we already know we will be unable to visit Port Canaveral, Florida.
  • There is a potential for impact to our visit to Nassau, Bahamas and Perfect Day at CocoCay.

So, what’s the plan? We have a couple, actually.

  • Plan A: Currently, we hope to sail around the storm and stick to our Bahamas itinerary, and as long as it’s safe, we’ll visit Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay.
  • Plan B: Should it be unsafe to stick to our original itinerary, we would visit Bermuda and overnight there. Bermuda is a snorkeler’s paradise, from the pink sand beaches, to the historic towns of St. George’s or Hamilton, and the natural wonders of Crystal and Fantasy cave, there really is something for everyone to enjoy. So, it would still be an awesome cruise!

As our newly reimagined private destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay is very special to us and we are really looking forward to sharing it with you. If we don’t make it to Perfect Day at CocoCay, we’ll provide a Future Cruise Certificate for the value of one day in the hopes you’ll be able to sail with us again and experience this one-of-a-kind destination.

Now, we understand with this uncertainty some of our guests may want to cancel their sailing. If you choose to do so, we’ll miss you onboard Anthem of the Seas. For cancelling, you’ll receive a Future Cruise Certificate in the value of 100% of your cancelled cruise fare and a refund of any taxes and fees, also any amenities and packages - like internet, beverage, and dining. You can expect to receive your refund 3 to 5 days after the sailing ends. As the cruise will still be sailing, we won’t be covering any travel expenses incurred to get you to/from the ship.

Our intention is to keep you informed every step of the way, so you know what to expect. We’ll provide another update for you Saturday morning

Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow in Cape Liberty and aboard Anthem of the Seas!

Sincerely,

We just went snorkling today at Tobacco Bay Beach in St George and it was great! Humid and warm, but got some rain in late afternoon.

We have flown from Europe, and being told less than 24 hours that we can cancel, is not acceptable, we should have known before leaving, and we booked a vruise to get away from the darkness and winter in northern Europe, to come to the sun and warm climate. We been to Bermuda about the same time on a. Ruise from Boston to Florida, and it was raining, windy and not very warm. And booking this cruise, which I think is sold out, was to come to cococay and cape canaveral, not Bermuda for a day

Unfortunately the weather can change quickly, so they couldn't give you more notice.

Onboard Anthem. Looks like we will sail today (finally),  It’s been a strange beginning of a vacation, but completely understand why we didn’t leave port when we were supposed to. Not thrilled with Bermuda in November, but what can you do?  I have been fortunate that I can vacation with more frequency than most, and have had many vacations without any unexpected events. So I guess I was due for some problems!  Still, this could have been a lot worse if RCCL had not been so diligent with their decisions.  I believe they did their best to keep us informed.  It was a little difficult to accept, but I am glad we stayed and did not cancel.  Many people left. You have to do what is right for your situation, I guess.

All the folks on Grandeur and Anthem, be thankful for staying in port.  Just went through 48 hours of 25+ foot seas and 50-60 knot winds off the Carolinas.  Starting to subside this morning, but swells still around 20 feet, will only subside to about 15 feet tonight.  No one would have been happy in that weather.

What size vessel are you on?  We went thru seas like that years ago on the Explorer.  We watched pool deck carpeting peel up and fly off in the wind.  We were off the Carolinas as well but our storm lasted more like 36 hours.  Feeling a ship that size slapping the waves was frightening.

We had 45+ foot seas on the WB Anthem TA in Oct/Nov 2015.  The captain said it should get smoother tomorrow.   The next day ... it should smoother tomorrow.  The next day ... it should get smoother tomorrow.

P.S.  Anthem handled the high seas well.

46,000 ton tanker.  Our deck is only about 20 feet above the sea.  Seas have subsided enough for us to go forward and assess any damage.  I know we lost some lighting on our bow, and some gear came adrift.  We've made about 250 miles over the last 48 hours, about 5 knots, we were showing less than 2 knots "through the water", meaning we were effectively making that speed into the seas, but the Gulf Stream was pushing us about 3 knots.  Couldn't go any faster without tearing the ship up smashing into the seas.

Break out the shorts.

The announcement said the weather we were expecting to run into is going toward Bermuda.

Pity the folks that cancelled Cococay excursions, booked Bermuda instead and now will be rebooking Cococay stuff again.

DH heard that 1000 guests left the ship already before this mornings announcement.

Does anyone know what is going on with the Anthem of the Seas current sailing out of NY?  Trying to understand why Port Canaveral was cancelled this week and ships departure port was changed (note, I am not 100% of the accuracy of this, as I am getting information from German friend and his English is a bit off).  But from what I understand they are missing all ports but Cocoa Cay and they say it is weather related.....

Any real facts would be great.

Thanks!

Big storm off east coast caused two sailings yesterday to sit in port before sailing.  Anthem going to Bermuda.  Several posts already on this board discussing this.

They changed it again, Anthem now only going to Coco Cay and has finally now left the pier. 🙂
