From what the LA told me, Vision is experimenting with going as green as possible. No straws, no paper cups, no little packs of jam/peanut butter...and Dasani in cans (which are not popular and can't be resealed to carry around). Drinking from one in my cabin right now. Tastes like can. 😉

Hogwash all you like....I am currently holding a can of Dasani on Vision right now. You won't find any bottles of water on the ship...not at the bars, not in the cabins, not in the lounges, not for sale, and not on package. To quote my post "… it is hogwash at least on the Grandeur. " Thank you for YOUR response. Did YOU ask if this is a new thing for the entire cruise line? As part of the experiment do YOU think it is going over well with those on the ship? Edited January 28, 2020 by boscobeans

Reverse Osmosis filters can be purchased and put under your kitchen sink. Why buy bottled water? I never will. I have a large filter under my sink. Not reverse osmosis. Just to remove the chemical taste. It also removes other contaminants and metals. Distillation does remove the taste for sure. No taste at all. Reverse osmosis does not. I worked for our city utilities and they have a massive reverse osmosis filter system. They use it to filter the water from the wells that have salt in them. They add nothing for taste. I have a Culligan system to soften our hard water and also an R/O system to remove "most" of the sodium from the softener (recommended for people with HBP).. All drinking and cooking water comes from the separate (R/O) tap on our kitchen sink. Water tastes great.

BillHana Posted February 10, 2020 #109 Share Posted February 10, 2020 When I saw this thread last month I ask C&A what they will be doing for the welcome aboard amenity on my upcoming Grandeur cruise. After a month of waiting here is the response from "Royal Guest Experience Management"... "Currently, we are just trailing cans of water versus bottles of water for environmental purposes onboard the Vision of the Seas between January 04, 2020 and March 28, 2020. During this trial period, the ship will provide our members with canned water in their staterooms on embarkation day. This will not affect your current sailing onboard the Grandeur of the Seas, March 07, 2020 unless there is a decision made between now and then that would be communicated that we are completely getting rid of bottles of water. If the trial is successful, we may be getting rid of bottles of water in the future, however, this has yet to be determined."

reallyitsmema Posted February 10, 2020 #111 Share Posted February 10, 2020 Plastic bottles on Mariner last week too. Still the purified water and not the spring water they used to have. I hope they do not go to Dasani purified water, that water tastes awful from a bottle or a can.

It's purified with no weird taste. We have been drinking tap water at home and on cruise ships and are healthy 70 something and we are still alive. Don't need bottled or canned water. Now, if we go to some countries, we don't want to get sick, so we drink bottled water.

Sunshine3601 Posted February 11, 2020 #119 Share Posted February 11, 2020 If this is true I will truly miss having the bottled water. We always grab some bottles and put in our backpack for excursions and beach days instead of paying ridiculous prices at the ports. And we always enjoy bottled water in our cabin especially on bed stand where I put csp on and dont worry about spilling. I wonder if they will still sell the cases of evian if they get rid of bottled water in casino and other lounges.
plosfas Posted February 11, 2020 #120 Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) For all the people suggesting to just bring reusable water bottles, maybe it's juts my Canadian showing, but I tend to grab about 5-10 bottles of water for my and my wife grabs 5-10 as well before going off ship due to the heat in the caribbean. I'm not bringing 20 reusable water bottles with me... Edited February 11, 2020 by plosfas
ALWAYS CRUZIN Posted February 11, 2020 #121 Share Posted February 11, 2020 Free ships water everywhere and not a drop to drink. REALLY? All of the water that is potable on a ship is filtered extremely well. In most cases. better and anywhere on shore in the US. Your bathroom sink water may have a taste you may not like because of the added chemicals that purify it. Go get water at the bar. It is filtered again for making drinks. Great water. Go to the buffet. Same. In your state room. Have the ice bucket there. We end up with ice water int he evening and in the morning for our medication. Great water. Now if you are still inclined to buy the EXPENSIVE bottled water. Be my guest. Your money down the drain. Instead of wasting money. Why don't you go and buy a drinking bottle with a filter in it. Usually good for about 3 months of everyday drinking. Ever figure how much a gallon of bottled water is. Even at thee lowest cost. Unbelievable expensive.

I don't pay for the water, I pay for the convenience.

I drink La Croix out of a can at home. It doesn't have an after taste from the can. Drank soda from a can for years and never experienced any taste difference between a can or bottle. I do prefer a plastic bottle only because you can put the cap back on if you don't finish it a once. I can see a lot of waste with a can if you have the drink package. I for one won't be walking around with an open can. I will just dump it and get a new one since we get the drink package. We by some not seltzers (without sugars, naturally flavored) and I use my refillable bottle with them. Works great actually.
