So sorry to hear about the various health problems that some of you and your families are having. I hope everyone is soon on the road to recovery.
I’ve not been posting much on CC recently as have had a lot going on, but have been lurking and finally caught up with all the posts that I have missed.
I agree with everyone’s comments that we need to continue to be very careful as the virus is so active. Our neighbour (late 60s and fairly healthy) although double jabbed has just been hospitalised for 2 weeks with Covid. Thankfully he is home now, but still not back to normal.
So many people seem to think it’s time for life to go back to as it was, but we are in no hurry to resume some of the things we used to do!

So many people are contracting covid but thinking they should have been ok because they are double jabbed. There are two important facts that I won't forget. 1st - unless you've had an antigen test, you don't know whether you have produced any antibodies or not, and 2nd - if you have,  after 6 months the efficacy is dramatically reduced, hence the need for a booster. That tells me that I am correct, imo, to keep wearing a mask and to be careful if or when I go out. Better to be safe than sorry.

Some food porn for tonight, to start of with canapés, then duck liver with sauce & brioche, Langoustines in sauce, turbot in a sauce, pigeon with a port sauce, pea & mint sorbet, and heaven on a plate Cointreau soufflé, then chocolates to finish, had the wines to pair with each course and the whole evening was a fantastic experience and the Ritz hotel lovely and grand and all the waiters had different uniforms a little bit military look about them but really down to earth guys and not snooty, which we could have a laugh with .

My parents got theirs in the Chatham site which surprised me as their surgery was a bit slow for their original jabs.

That's good to hear that they got their booster shorts.

Sorry to hear about your dad - so worrying for you and your mum, and the rest of your family. Hopefully he'll be out soon

Just catching up after this morning's post.

Damien, sorry to hear that your Day and son have caught covid and that neither of them suffer badly  with it and both you and Michelle stay well.

Husband has his booster jab tomorrow.

After applying to re-new my driving licence last September (2020) it has finally arrived - only took 13 months!!! Funny thing was I was only talking about it with my friend at work before I left and was wondering how I could find out what the situation was, as it has been hopeless trying to ring and e-mail them.

Hopefully it will warm up tomorrow to greet our likely arrival. Forecast doesn’t look too bad.

Welcome back to the site, you have been missed.

The rough sea was great but the moderate breeze given out by the Met Office was more like a gale. Had a lovely walk in the Welsh rain and returned like drowned rats  but have just noticed that as soon as a certain Stokie we know arrived the sun came out !!! 😀😃🙂

Thanks Avril.

My doctor wasn't sure so took photos and referred me to the dermatologist as a routine case.

The original appointment was for December 2nd over 3 months later so I rang weekly for an appointment and got yesterday.

We were staying 2 nights in Harrogate so I drove back to Sunderland for the 9.40pm appointment yesterday then we drove back to Harrogate afterwards for our second night away.

We ended up at Junction 32 M62 shopping outlet yesterday.

I hope you and Frank are well.

Graham.

We called at junction 32 the other day and were very disappointed, most of the shop's that we liked are gone.

We had not been since Covid and will not be rushing back, York outlet if far better but we still prefer the York town centre to any outlet.

Every word true, Avril - you take care.  If only your attitude were more widespread.

We were at the York designer outlet on Wednesday.

I am the same Avril, I have no intention of going anywhere without a mask for the foreseeable future.  We are still not going out much either other than shopping once a week early morning when Tesco is very quiet.

Too many people are under the misapprehension that if they are double vaccinated they are safe so don't need to wear a mask.  They haven't  taken on the fact that they can still end up seriously ill with covid though they are less likely to die than if they are unvaccinated.

We were only there about 1 hour.

It was a bit cold and the shops were a bit disappointing.

I'm really sorry to hear this, fingers crossed for your daughter and family.

My dad is still in temporary care and a couple of weeks ago said that he was staying in his room at the care home full time as there'd been a few Covid-19 cases but he's still ended up catching it anyway (so one of the carers must have brought it to him). On top of that our son (11) has now caught it at school as well despite their best efforts (staff regularly tested, pupils supposed to be tested at home at least twice a week but do all parents really do that?).

Michelle and I are testing regularly and are thankfully all clear. I'm still wearing a mask going shopping and cleaning my hands with gel as soon as I've put the shopping in the car boot but I have to say I find it astonishing that I'm in the minority wearing a mask these days. As has been said, everyone has to make their own decisions and do what feels right for them but the consideration for others that was so prevalent 18 months back seems to have disappeared.

I'm really sorry to hear your dad and your son have covid Damian.

I hope they both only have very mild cases and are better quickly.

Graham.

I shall be perfectly honest with you Josy, neither Frank nor I have put one foot off our property since May 1st when we had our second jab. We've not kept ourselves secluded as our daughter and grandson live with us and family visit often, but they are as careful as possible to keep themselves protected while out.  Family I can rely to try their best, Joe Public? not a prayer.

Too true Avril, we all know who we can trust and it is not the general public.  David has just told me that he thinks that I should give up my voluntary work because he is worried about my health.  We have compromised and I will work this weekend because I have already committed to it but then I will give it up though I feel that he is worrying about nothing.

Such a shame but totally understandable. If the general public cannot use their discretion and common sense they need to be told to take obvious precautions backed up by law, but don’t expect any restrictions until the Cop 26 conference in Glasgow (photo opportunity) has happened. I am surprised that so many people are prepared to come to a country with so many Covid cases for a conference where promises will be made and broken some time after and where 3 of the 4 greatest CO2 producers are likely to be absent (China, India and Russia).

Thanks everyone for your good wishes, I felt quite emotional reading them.

Dad is still in hospital, I walk my mum to the ward and then have to wait outside. He walks her back to the door though so I have a quick few words at the door with him. Not sure he should be doing that but it was great to see him.

I had to phone a friend of his yesterday who I’ve never met as my Dad wanted me to let him know - he was lovely! Quite a character - ‘now  tell me Sue what do you feel about it’ !!

Would you believe we’re still waiting for him to go to a cardiac ward, he’s in an ‘acute/admissions’ ward currently.

@grapau27 sorry to hear about your delay re your skin Basel ‘thing’ - sorry can’t remember full name. That’s what my mum had last year. It was like yours for ages so hopefully the delay will be ok. They only went to A&E (during first lockdown when they were desperate) when it turned black and it was removed within 2 weeks. So seek help quickly if that happens. Best wishes.
