Rare island lady Posted March 24, 2020 #2 Share Posted March 24, 2020 Our June Grandeur cruise going to NE/Canada (yeah, like that is going to happen with Canadian borders closed until 7/1) is still listed as a "go"...and taking bookings. 😮 Upon checking, my cabin has increased by over a grand! 😵

I have a cruises in April (yeah right) May (probably not) and August (possible) and all three are a lot more than when we booked.
drsel Posted March 24, 2020 #4 Share Posted March 24, 2020 Prices will have to go up because the cruise lines have to make up the huge losses
Ken at the beach Posted March 24, 2020 #5 Share Posted March 24, 2020 Depends. Short term cruises within the first 6 months will be selling at reduced rates to get people back on the ships. These are the ones that many have cancelled leaving lots of rooms available. Longer term..over a year out I would guess that the price will rise as many will be looking to use their FCC. That's assuming that the Dr's note requirement gets waived

If the bookings aren’t going very well because some folks don’t want to cruise which seems to be the case of some posters on this and other sites I’m hopeful deals will be there to be had. RCCL or indeed other cruise lines would rather sail full rather than half empty ships.
Ken at the beach Posted March 24, 2020 #9 Share Posted March 24, 2020 In the short term a lot of the empty cabins will be filled with travel agents, interline employees, unadvertised friends and family rates, casino comps etc.. who will receive extremely cheap or even comped cruises. This has already started not only on Royal but on other lines. Allows the cruise lines to fill the ship without offering rock bottom prices to the general public.

drsel Posted March 24, 2020 #11 Share Posted March 24, 2020 Would it be better to give free complementary Cruises, rather than have rock bottom prices to make it attractive?

I've been watching about 3 weeks out of Galveston and prices are up 25% from what I paid for my cancelled cruise. I skipped over thru the next few months that I'm unsure will go. Prices are up from when I booked. Coincidentally it will take my whole 125% fcc to rebook 😁

They can charge whatever they want but getting people to buy is not based on what a company needs in revenue.
Hobby3333 Posted March 24, 2020 #14 Share Posted March 24, 2020 I think a lot of ships will be sailing the Caribbean the first few months after the ships start sailing. More cabins and less cruisers will drive prices down.

As of yesterday prices haven't changed in at least three months. As of last week it was booked at 46% of occupancy. Maybe they know it will eventually be cancelled and why bother.
BND Posted March 24, 2020 #16 Share Posted March 24, 2020 Super basic supply and demand. Initially they will be low to encourage bookings. As demand increases, prices will increase.

taglovestocruise Posted March 24, 2020 #18 Share Posted March 24, 2020 We have the Allure TA booked for Nov. I have been checking for price drops every day or so for the last few weeks, right now prices are almost double over what we paid when we booked last year.

The only thing it will do is cause the path to recovery to become more challenging. This would be disastrous for its ADR and RevPAR and will be more difficult to revert to its original non-discounted price point as soon as the general public becomes accustomed to the current price. Once that happens, you’ll see a downward spiral where the cruise line will need to implement cost cutting measures in nearly every department in order to keep or retain profits and revenue. Another impact based on cruise fares will be the target demographic and who is able to afford the cruises. Before you know it, the product will be completely different and you may not recognize it or be fond of it. BND Posted March 24, 2020 #21 Share Posted March 24, 2020 (edited) Prices will not drop until they have a date for cruises to start back up. Anyone booking now will move their booking as needed and reprice anyway. Once there is a date, expect to see some real sales for a bit. You can't go by current pricing as it's just sitting in place for now. Their goal is to get people onboard where they will spend money-alcohol, food venues, excursions and the casino. My april 26th cruise is holding steady but they know it will be cancelled. There will be plenty who cancelled who have fcc to use by the end of next year to keep prices further out from falling. It's all of those with fcc and those like me who think they will have one and want to rebook, pushed into fewer cruises keeping prices from falling much ... if they do. ... I'm not counting the next 6 months which is iffy, if there are deals they might be close in right when rcl starts back up but the virus isnt contained. Who really knows... all I know is prices have gone up the last 3 weeks out of Galveston. I dont watch other ports. And speaking of Galveston... my cruises leaves jan 2nd I hoped this early and with the virus prices would be down. 340 a night plus taxes for super 8, a cheapie. 549 a special price down the street. Plus taxes. January used to be off season and cheap. That's january 1st not even new years eve pricing.

Marie51 Posted March 24, 2020 #24 Share Posted March 24, 2020 My cruise for the end of July dropped by $500 per person… Hard to believe… So I had the price adjusted with my travel agent. Hoping we will still be able to go.
