Sharon and I are celebrating our 43rd anniversary!    We both have been busy today so we are having a late lunch.  Some might find this hard to believe but I made home made pizza! Yes really!

Best wishes for the very happiest of anniversaries.

OOOO Tootsie pops!  My absolute favorite flavor is chocolate.  Springtime they come out with banana flavor, also yummy.

I never had a banana pop, I will look for them.  My family found out Amazon sells all one flavor, easy gift to give me!!  Speaking of gifts my younger son bought me this.  None of my kids or grandkids are left handed, just me.887FD293-7023-4D2C-AD3B-4CC2195D774D.thumb.jpeg.b0342bbd51de2ba82ffcffa19e9dd590.jpeg

In the 1950’s shoe stores in my then part of Brooklyn gave a silver dollar to every one who bought a pair of shoes.

I bought a silver dollar at a craft fair about 3 years ago.

I have a couple of $2 notes that a kind American friend posted to me.

Graham.

I saw on the Alaska board the other day that RCI was part of the 7 cruise ship companies that were awarded the privilege back in 2019 to visit Glacier Bay for a 10 year contract period.

https://www.nps.gov/glba/learn/news/glacier-bay-issues-new-contracts-for-cruise-ship-services.htm

However, shortly after getting the spots, RCI decides on not opting in to go to GB for whatever reason per this CC article:

https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/4720/

So it'll be at least until 2029 when the next contract will be announced before RCI might go to Glacier Bay.

Disappointing considering they had it all but finalized. 😞

Hockey?  Of course.  Maple Syrup?  Yum.  Poutine?  Eh...maybe.  Timmies?  Absolutely.  But I still contend that one of the best things to come out of Canada is Rush.  I heard The Spirit of Radio on SiriusXM earlier and it sent me down a YouTube rabbit hole watching Rush videos.

Geddy Lee is an incredible bass player.  And that voice.  Alex Lifeson is an amazing guitarist.  One of my favorites.  Both are arguably top 50 all-time on their respective instruments.  But Neil Peart was an absolute genius on the drums.  I'm just mesmerized watching him.  Cancer really sucks.

If you want to see some of his genius, check this drum solo from a live performance in Frankfurt:

After I forwarded the link to you, I read another article in the Google search as I was curious on why they bid for it and then backed away.

Another article said since HAL and Princess has more seniority rights to GB in having been there for many decades, they get the prime spots as only 2 cruise ships can go there daily.  RCI can only get the less popular dates or shoulder Alaska season like in May or September only when fewer ships are fighting for spots.

So within the announcement, there may be some pecking orders on what cruise ship companies can select which dates on the calendar.  RCI may be left with less desirable dates for handful of sailings at beginning and end of the Alaska season and they might of just say, "Forget it, too much disruption to our schedules for 2 GB sailings in May and 3 in September, we will just go to another glacier instead for the whole season".

Here is the GB schedule for 2022.  Mostly Princess/HAL/NCL ships:

I guess they didn't factor in for those 5 sailings into GB they could have charged a lot more then a normal Alaska Cruise. Could have made a bundle.

Overall very good.  A few minor things, berries seem to be in short supply yet abundant fresh produce in the markets we have stopped at in port.  No sorbet, only ice cream.  Sorrento's has to be the worst I have had in at least 5 years. It's like they cooked the dough then added toppings and cooked it again.  Hot dog buns in the WJ are small and split into two pieces when you open them....they need thr buns they gave on OA and QN class ships at thf doghouse.  The slot machines are all ones geared for the Asian market...casino is very quiet on this sailing.

Service has been outstanding, specialty restaurants have been great.  Dining room was very good, first time there in probably last 15 cruises.

Thanks for your observations. The Sorrento’s issues seem very odd.

@Sea Dognot the same but here is a picture of one of the ropes from the Vasa that sank in the early 1600's and they found her, well preserved and now have her on display

That is amazing. I need to go to that museum.

How are you all feeling now? Hope it is getting better by the day.

Thanks for asking. I also tested positive on Wed. The grandkids are doing very well. Daughter and her husband just have coughs and aches. My wife and I are still suffering chills and body aches and head congestion. We had connecting junior suites so we are sure son in law and grandson got it first and transferred to the rest of us.
