You guys need to get on the same page with the doom and gloom jazz. All cruise lines are in the same boat as far as cruising from the US. I think Carnival is going to have a bigger challenge financially due to all the $600 OBC credits they have issued. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but no other cruise line is offering anything remotely similar with future OBC offers.

For the most part the OBC will be used for the auto-tips, drinks, and maybe casino if that is allowed. This will cost Carnival but they have planned for that. The price increases should cover the OBC but this does not mean Carnival is not in jeopardy of floundering if the shutdown continues much longer. Onboard spend will go up, sometimes more than the $600. What's not to love?

What's not to love? It's good enough reason for people to book Cruises, which they know will not sail; in order to get the free $600 OBC when The Cruise is inevitably cancelled. RD64 Posted July 21, 2020 #112 Share Posted July 21, 2020 Go to the Royal Caribbean board and look for the Frugal Cruising thread. Also I have personally seen a couple on a Carnival cruise - having a very vivid argument because the wife wanted to order a Coke, and the husband was adamant that he was not going to spend a dine. Have you never seen the long lines at guest services removing their gratuities on the last night?

Have you never seen the long lines at guest services removing their gratuities on the last night? I hear more debate by people insisting they could not have had a $1000 liquor bill. Cheap people are going to be cheap. Typically the more "experienced" cruisers. Novice cruisers don't sweat the small stuff.
tidecat Posted July 22, 2020 #115 Share Posted July 22, 2020 I actually could see Cheers! becoming more popular with cruisers who have piles of onboard credit. Why worry about $5 or $10 day discount for buying it in advance when you have $600 of house money? That said, I could see the price for Cheers being raised another $10/day by the time sailing resumes.
N7786W Flyer Posted July 22, 2020 #116 Share Posted July 22, 2020 (edited) Photos from Aliaga, Turkey, show that RCCL's former Monarch of the Seas is now beached for scrapping. The former Sovereign of the Seas is also at Aliaga and awaiting the same fate. Also looks like Carnival's Fantasy and Inspiration will be there soon. I think we're going to see ship recycling happen at a rate that we haven't seen since the oil crisis of 1973 where dozens of former passenger ships went to the scrappers. jsglow Posted July 22, 2020 #117 Share Posted July 22, 2020 First of many. Fantasy should be up on the sand in a week or so I'll bet. So THEN will Carnival come clean and stop selling cruises on her?
2Shoes2Go Posted July 22, 2020 #118 Share Posted July 22, 2020 So sad to see! We enjoyed many wonderful cruises on Monarch. Lovely, although lengthy, dinners with the Captain and Hotel Directors. Great service and friendly crew. She will be missed by so many. A passing era of cruising.

This could take few weeks, since the Monarch was there for a week waiting for the lunar high tide. Edited July 22, 2020 by ch09

Fantasy is still in the Atlantic,a coule of days from the Straits of Gibraltar. Inspiration quite far behind her. Sovereign will be next. Interesting that Monarch may be beached, but her AIS is still sending, and destination is Cartagena...EM Edited July 22, 2020 by Essiesmom

JetGreen Posted July 22, 2020 #124 Share Posted July 22, 2020 (edited) Maybe we as cruise passengers should be pushing for Carnival and other cruise companies to opt for a more environmentally sustainable scrapping of the ships than what is carried out in Turkey. http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.456.6708&rep=rep1&type=pdf Edited July 22, 2020 by JetGreen

The original owner can still shop around.
