Carnival Fantasy at Aliaga. Last update. - YouTube

Sovereign is not recognizable anymore with the top half GONE.  Looks like they stopped on Monarch to concentrate on Sovereign since Monarch looks to be at the same condition as a couple of months.

Does anyone know if the ships take on a local pilot or shipyard representative when beaching or if the captain just brings the ship in himself?

In some of the beaching videos I have seen, the person conning ship was not the captain.  Whether or not he was an "official" pilot or someone connected with the scrapping facility, I don't know.

A bit better pic of Magellan:

May be an image of ocean and nature

Our very first cruise was with Carnival Holiday, now Magellan, out of Mobile AL.

One day we were standing at the reeling and a ship engineer standing next to us ponderd that this ship should be sunk in the middle of the ocean (due to the many severe technical problems).

The return trip to Mobile was scary. In the Gulf the ship started heavy and constant listing at 7am. I was kind of scared and told my family to get dressed and run for open deck. The ship had an electrical malfunction and turned extreme sharp circles for 1 hour. The list was considerable as the engine was not stopped. No announcements by Italian captain- nothing.

So obviously the ship was not sunk in the Gulf by its crew but beached in Turkey.........

All of the recent beachings, including Magellan, have been at Alang, India - you can tell by the space between the ships and the way they are all out of water.

Now this is an example of brand marketing gone wrong. Should have negotiated those stacks be removed first.

Probably not needed, especially for an extra cost.  The vast majority of people, and even the vast majority of cruisers, have no idea that Aliaga and Alang even exist.  Blissful ignorance.

How do they manage to get the ships out of the water like that?

The tide swings are pretty big there - the ships are run aground at high tide - the pic you see is at low tide. In most pics they seem to start work on them there but then they pull the hull closer the the high tide mark.
