Rare rafinmd Posted August 19, 2020 #3 Share Posted August 19, 2020 Thank you for the daily, Rich. I expect we will see a lot of photos today on this thread. Strange for a Come From Away fan but I hate to fly. I think I find that quote rings truer every day. For National Potato day my meal suggestion will be Dive-In fries which I enjoyed August 19, 2914 in Glacier Bay.. Today's care list: Fatcat's MIL Mrs. Vmax summer slope's neighbor Those in danger of rolling blackouts Cedar Rapids Those fighting wildfires and those who support them. Remaining Wilderness Adventurer. passengers Yesterday should have marked 14 days of quarantine and I was unable to find any evidence of thread. Rain and heat relief for Phoenix and much of the Southwest Teachers and students and Krazy Kruizers and Joe. Today's celebrations and shoutouts The fire crew from my county (not my station) that rescued a 5-year old who had locked himself in a gun safe. They needed the Jaws of Life. Rare rafinmd Posted August 19, 2020 #4 Share Posted August 19, 2020 Today's sunrise comes from the Empress of the Seas. On oddity for a line known for megaships, Empress is small enough to dock in Hamilton, Bermuda. Seasick Sailor Posted August 19, 2020 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2020 The holiday was first observed in 1939, after the proclamation by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. August 19 was chosen on purpose because it is the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday. Orville was the younger of the Wright brothers, renowned American aviation pioneers. He was still alive when President first issued the proclamation. Good morning Rich. Lots to like on the Daily. Love potatoes, the meal suggestion and I hope the wine after Cat finishes her review. Looking forward to some beautiful pictures this morning from fellow Daily-ites! Praying for all those on Roy's care list. And WOW! did not read about the little boy getting locked in a gun safe! Wonder how that could even happen? Good morning to my sisters Ann and Denise. I love you girls. Always look forward to saying good morning to you. So happy you are home Denise. I think you and David were literally minutes away from being closed down over there! Woke up to 70 degree morning! I have all the windows open in the sun room office and watching all my little hummers and bird friends at their feeders. I am going to take Rich's suggestion and make some pasta corn salad and shrimp today. Hope everyone stays safe. Have a great day. Wear your mask. Love ya'll!
Rare richwmn Posted August 19, 2020 Author #7 Share Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) One of my favorite places, Praia da Vitoria, Terceira Island, The Azores. I lived near here for 15 months a long time ago and was able to visit 9/27 & 28/2017. I was supposed to stop here on the TransAtlantic cruise this year that was cancelled. cat shepard Posted August 19, 2020 #8 Share Posted August 19, 2020 Thank you for today’s Daily, Rich! Morning Dailyites & my Sisters. Another wild storm filled afternoon here yesterday. Bindi and I were both exhausted from trying to find a break in the lightning to get her out safely. More is predicted for today. Here’s to all the aviators and the people who make it happen! 🥂 I would much rather have a potato than bad poetry! Love pics. The quote is all too true & the meal sounds great! Today’s wine is a fairly priced Southern France red blend. I even found it on sale for $16.99 on wine.com. Here’s WS’s take on it: WS90 Wine Spectator Polished, supple tannins support the black cherry, red plum and wild raspberry notes of this juicy red, with savory touches of mineral and herb on the clean finish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Prayers to all on our Care list and 🥂to our celebrants! Someday our celebration list will be longer than our care list! Stay well everyone!😷

ger_77 Posted August 19, 2020 #10 Share Posted August 19, 2020 Good morning, thanks for the Daily! Thank goodness for aviation; I can't imagine having to drive to the port whenever we take a cruise! Love potatoes, any way, just not with sour cream. Thankful for photos - such great memories to look back on when you can't take a cruise. Here's a fave of mine from our first T/A in 2014: Pesto corn salad sounds awesome - I just checked the recipe online and I've got everything (except avocados, I don't "do" avocados). That sounds like a great suggestion for tonight's meal, especially if the power goes off like it did yesterday for a couple of hours. It seems there was a power overload with everyone's a/c, cooking, laundry, etc., during this heat wave. I can do the pesto corn this morning and finish with the shrimps on the bbq later. And wine. Prayers for everyone who needs them, and even for those who don't think they do. Be well, stay safe! Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂 Gerry

Rare TiogaCruiser Posted August 19, 2020 #12 Share Posted August 19, 2020 Good Morning everyone, The dinner suggestion sounds great. I should be able to get what we don’t have from a local stand I can ride my bike to. Before it gets too hot😁. I’m shifting gears and starting to plan out small portion, fresh dinners ( as opposed to cook on the weekend and warm ups all week.) @cat shepard Where is that? It’s lovely.

My sister, who is a great cook, had dinner at my nieces house and my niece served these meals. My sis said they were delicious, fresh and you microwave it! There's like 30 meal suggestions. I think I'll give it a try.

The doorway of Ca Maria Adele looking out to a canal & the bridge that leads to the Basilica di Santa Maria Della Maggiore in Venice. It is an amazing place to stay. Dismomx5 Posted August 19, 2020 #17 Share Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) Good morning! No flying for me for a little while longer, but when I do, I'll take some pictures. 🙂 And thanks for the reminder-we're out of 🥔. I've lived the quote too many times in my life. That's another positive of retirement in this house. It is rare that we have to get up. The meal sounds good. 2 hours ago, rafinmd said: The fire crew from my county (not my station) that rescued a 5-year old who had locked himself in a gun safe. They needed the Jaws of Life. Oh, my goodness, Roy. How scary for everyone involved! 1 hour ago, Seasick Sailor said: Woke up to 70 degree morning! I have all the windows open in the sun room office and watching all my little hummers and bird friends at their feeders. Isn't it just the best, Joy! I love being able to have my windows open. We're in a small village, away from the main road, so rarely hear anything but birds, frogs, crickets. ❤️ 1 hour ago, ger_77 said: Pesto corn salad sounds awesome - I just checked the recipe online and I've got everything (except avocados, I don't "do" avocados). Thanks for the encouragement to look this up, Gerry. I'm out this afternoon, but I think I can put this together when we get home. And DH should like it. Corn and shrimp are in his wheelhouse. 1 hour ago, cat shepard said: Thank you for today’s Daily, Rich! Morning Dailyites & my Sisters. Another wild storm filled afternoon here yesterday. Ann, I'm hoping that you (and Bindi) get a reprieve from the storms-at least long enough to get the business done. 😉 Are the pictures from Venice? Have a wonderful day, everyone. Be well. Stay safe. Ge kind. Here's a pic of the Koningsdam in Puerto Rico, 2018. We did a Southern Cruise on NCL in 2019 from Puerto Rico. I fell in love with the city. Rare puppycanducruise Posted August 19, 2020 #18 Share Posted August 19, 2020 Good morning everyone. What a wonderful thread this is. 🙂 Love the map. That quote is too true. Thanks for the meal suggestion, shrimp sounds good to me. I'll look up the wine. But our wine for tonight will be a Sauvignon Blanc, because that's what we bottled last time we made wine. Love the pictures everyone, thank you. Sending prayers for everyone on the Care List. Stay safe.

Imagine having a gun safe that a 5 year old can get into. I fear that it was left unlocked or open. Sigh. The pics are from different places actually. Venice, Istanbul & Kona, HI. And today’s storms are supposed to mirror yesterday’s. Hope they are wrong. At least I do not have to add water to the pool. Stay well!

Rare kazu Posted August 19, 2020 #21 Share Posted August 19, 2020 Thanks for the Daily, Rich and our morning smile 🙂 Like everyone else, I won’t be flying for a while but I do salute the aviators. Potatoes sound great IF I get my stove back 😉 Love the meal suggestion for today - have to wait to see if I have a working kitchen or not. LOL at the quote for the day - so very true! Oh my heavens @rafinmd at the child being locked in a safe! YIKES! Looks like everyone is celebrating World Photo Day with great memories and wonderful pictures! Here’s some memories of ours from Bordeaux. We were lucky enough to overnight on the Prinsendam. It was so nice to be docked right in town. So glad we were able to do this port while she was still in the fleet. Our view from our balcony. Bordeaux is just exquisite. Prayers to everyone on our Care list and cheers to those on the Celebratory list.

Cruising-along Posted August 19, 2020 #25 Share Posted August 19, 2020 (edited) A few photos from our last 2 cruises (sniff). SO glad we got to do them before Covid. It was an amazing trip, 75 days in the Med -- some land time in France, then wondrous cruises on the Nieuw Statendam and Koningsdam. We renewed our vows for our 50th anniversary aboard the NS. Loved that ship!! Cannot wait to cruise again. Chateau Villandry; Kotor, Montenegro ; Corfu ; Santorini and Herculaneum. and Herculaneum.
