jstuartys Posted October 1, 2020 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2020 Hi, I assume this has been asked before.. but I read through several long threads and didn't see it, so apologies if it has. IF RCL cruises from FL in November (still a big if, I know), do you think they will reach their deduced capacity by natural attrition or does it seem like they would need to reduce capacity further and move people off? I know it's impossible to know for sure, just curious on people's thoughts. It looks like a lot of rooms are available already. We are booked on a casino comp, but I paid to upgrade. Since I can't lift and shift and paid very little, I seem like a good candidate to bump. I wouldn't really mind it because I am not sure we will go anyway. Just wondering people's thoughts. Big_G Posted October 1, 2020 #2 Share Posted October 1, 2020 Judging by the lack of activity in my former roll call, I'd say they probably won't have an issue paring down. 3
bigrednole Posted October 1, 2020 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2020 I don't know how they will do it, but I would bet lowest fares first if they don't get enough through attrition. Right now, it is a $$$ game. Do they want a family of 4 in an interior room that will eat only the MDR and Windjammer with no drink packages. Or, do they want that couple in a balcony cabin with Deluxe Drink Package, Unlimited Dining Package, 3 shore excursions, and top tier casino players. Obviously, they want the money drivers and that family of 4 would get the boot if it becomes involuntary. Another path they can go is no one in the high risk categories. However, that becomes discrimination based on age and possibly race. That is why I think they target lowest fares and non-balcony cabins. That would absolve them from any type of pushback. The ones that are not in balconies can use the Royal Up to fill any available balcony cabins.
Sunshine3601 Posted October 2, 2020 #4 Share Posted October 2, 2020 I just checked my dec sailing for anthem and they are lots of empty cabins of all types. I haven't bothered to check in as I dont think the NJ Governor will open up cape liberty for cruises even if the feds and cdc say ok. I really love this itinerary and unable to l&s so I am keeping it booked and fingers and toes crossed that we will be sailing before christmas.
ONECRUISER Posted October 2, 2020 #5 Share Posted October 2, 2020 Was brought up few times last several months. Shouldn't be an issue, a Travel Agent or 2 on here said good number on most ships fill last couple months. That along with those that cancel should be enough...
scooter6251 Posted October 2, 2020 #6 Share Posted October 2, 2020 If they only do shortened cruises for the first so many, as they have indicated for "test" runs, how will they handle that when most of us paid for a 7 day??

There was a lot of speculation on what would be short cruises to start with. Roysls healthy sail panel listed starting with cruises of less than 10 days so there is no reason to assume that 7 da6 cruises won’t sail. They certainly won’t be taking 7 day cruises and turning them into 4 day cruises. The “test runs” will be with employees. Nunagoras Posted October 2, 2020 #10 Share Posted October 2, 2020 First of it all: No matter what most here in CC think or not: Cruising will only return in all its glory on the day general cruisers feel confident to cruise again. Lots of cancellations have already been done and the remaining reservations will more than likely to be far away from the cruise lines limits. MSC has started with a ship and postponed a 2nd ship due to lack of demand, to not talk about the remaining fleet. Industry wise it will be the same for the times being... Bear in mind also the current travel bans on many countries to go to or from the US. Many cabins will be emptied up just from that one after all, especially on the Oasis class which is pretty much popular here in Continental Europe, and I assume, elsewhere in the world. Have a nice day and nice sailings the day they can run!...

boscobeans Posted October 3, 2020 #13 Share Posted October 3, 2020 I would love to see screen shots of the ACTUAL available staterooms on ships for the November sailings...
Rare BirdTravels Posted October 3, 2020 #14 Share Posted October 3, 2020 I think that as they finalize the restart cruises, existing cruises will be cancelled and/or significantly changed based on port availability. They will give current passengers the option of cancelling or rebooking, with the new capacity limitation in place. 100% of the suites will be sold with cuts in the cheaper cabin classes. There seem to be cabins of all types available for the November 2nd Mariner sailing, so I can tell it's not sold out but can't deduce much more than this. I haven't seen anything about a full fleet restart.
Nunagoras Posted October 5, 2020 #20 Share Posted October 5, 2020 Magnifica is the 2nd ship. No news about the remaining fleet. With the current 2nd wave of Covid-19 cases now spreading all over Europe, I'm very doubtful of any, even if small, opportunity for anything more than what we have now. Spain will be closed for months. Portugal could have been an option, but with most countries imposing restrictions to us, it is now out of question. The UK seems out of question too... And Italy can't absorve more than what they have now. Perhaps the odd ship to Germany... Don't know. This winter won't to be easy...

Virus numbers are falling in Germany and Italy. And yes, you're in a very difficult situation.
