As I said, not unusual.  Usually done to gold or platinum frequent cruisers who have not cruised in a while.

I guess being Diamond and having 9 cruises on the books doesn't make the cut Jimbo? 😀

I'm the same. I've booked cruises for multiple friends & family members over the years and have used my email address. I got the offer for 2 of my friends and 1 family member (red, gold, and red.)

Someone speculated it might have to do with onboard alcohol spend, but that's definitely not the case here. Red and Gold friend have spent $$$ on alcohol before whereas red family member has spent $0.

I agree.  None of us drink, so that can't be the only factor.

I have never seen Carnival offer Cheers for free. I have received casino drinks on us offers several times, but not sure why I even got those offers since I don’t gamble very often on Carnival due to the smoke. Only reason why I think I have received these offers is because I have won a couple of slot tournaments.

Carnival doesn’t need to entice you to cruise with them. I used to get decent offers from RCI and Celebrity in the past, but now that I have 4 cruises booked on RCI and 3 on Celebrity next year, plus a half dozen cancellations on these lines this year, I don’t get any more offers from them.  Maybe I will get some offers from Carnival in the future after several years of not cruising on Carnival???

You are 100% correct on all counts. I made my comment tongue in cheek. 😀

Once again, have to disagree with you Jimbo.  I cruised on the Freedom in January of 2015, did not cruise again on Carnival for 3.5 years in August of 2018 on the Horizon. Never got any great promotions from Carnival.

Once again, tell me the last time that Carnival has ever given away Cheers for free besides to the gamblers that get it through various casino promos.

I received this offer, but what is the point of limiting it to double occupancy rooms only. I'm sure they can code it to apply to just the first two guests in the room, like most cruise lines do with similar offers. Why should people traveling with their kids or more than two in room be excluded?

Perhaps to encourage families/friends to get two separate cabins.

I get it that if you cancel the cruise with a non refundable deposit, you forfeit that deposit.  But what if the cruise line cancels the voyage, or no sail order is still in effect, do they still get to keep the deposit?

I was willing to take the chance and lose the deposit if it means I get a free drinks package for hubby and I. I am not a big drinker but like that I can enjoy a glass or two at dinner and a few frozen drinks at the pool and not worry.

I am Gold (about to be platinum) and did not get it, but my parents are Red and they did get it

My guess is the algorithm works based on alcohol purchases on board - typically my parents spend several hundred per cruise on liquor, whereas my immediate family typically spends less than 50

I did a mock booking through my mom’s VIFP - difference was $100 per person on a 9 day cruise.  I am also guessing that you need to pay the daily taxes/gratuity as well (that is what Norwegian does and it is about $15 per person per day)

DH got it;  I didn't.  We spend $0 per cruise on alcohol.  I think it was about $120 more than the casino rate I booked with for a 4 day cruise.

we spend maybe 300 - maybe.. on drinks (coffee/water/ booze/ soda) bw DH and I.  It only cost us 120 more for the no worries cruise .  It is odd that some got the email some did not. for those who did not get it , did they call carnival to get it anyway?

It's probably something random like casino offers.  But it does make sense to offer it to non-drinkers, as drinkers will buy the drinks anyway.  If we took it, it would have been $120 extra plus losing my casino bonus.

Don't forget about the bubble waters, sports drinks, fancy coffee drinks, milkshakes/spiked milkshakes, sparkling waters/large format waters at dinner and a few others I'm probably forgetting. Point being, there are more benefits than just booze and all the non alcohol drinks don't count against your 15 alcohol drink limit either. Plus no schlepping around soda at embarkation and also cold beverages on demand when/wherever. Makes for a more relaxing vacation to be sure. I've never regretted buying the Cheers package. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have. I suppose that's a added benefit to the cruise line as well. Folks may not cruise without it in the future once they try it and enjoy the convenience.

you had me at spiked milkshakes. I usually drink 3-4 swell bottles worth of water. now I don't need to schlep the sodas on too.

It does not, andI am right there with you.  The point is that WE continue to cruise, and the people they invite with this....well;;; not so much, hence the invite,  It is not a reward, but enticement

I have, in fact my son in law just got one...oh by the way, he is a big royal cruiser.  He got a kick out of him getting free drinks from Carnival and I do not.
