Sounds like we will probably be allowed in the Port area, but leaving that area will require a carnival excursion. 

 

Before Trump banned Cuba travel again, Carnival excursions were the only way off due to American travel to the country being limited. 

 

At least my may cruise if it happens is going to Half Moon Cay, so no harm there, and Nassau which I've been a couple times, though I did want to go to the Casino there.

Yup, these type rules are exactly why we will not be cruising in the near future no matter how much we enjoy cruising. Canceled two booked cruises already. Some folks have said they are ok with these restrictions and that's fine, I hope they enjoy themselves, but this is not for us.

Thanks for sharing.  I'll react to some points I found most interesting.

• Testing - have we learned nothing from the SeaDream follies?  Testing five days before traveling is NOT. GOOD. ENOUGH. (imho).  There are too many carriers in the US and too many ways to catch it to accept a 5-day-old result.  My strong preference is to test at the terminal or get screened by that cute little doggie over there.
• Contact tracing - "Various location tracking technologies may be used to assist in the collection of contact tracing information such as wearables, video surveillance, transaction data, and photographs taken during the cruise."  Groan, ugh.🤮
• Shore excursions - The quote "Shore side visits may be also limited to port areas that have no public access" seems to leave room for access on foot to the dock, the terminal (and its shops), and most areas of the private islands.  I think it would be better than the expected binary choice between ship excursions and staying onboard.

I noticed two people mentioned shipwide capacity limits.  I assume all cruise ships are going to be capacity limited for quite a while.

Unfortunately if they require the vaccine it will be in addition to all this other crap.  I am not keen on the vaccine and really do not want it.  I’ve already had Covid.  No big deal.  I take the flu vaccine btw so I am not anti vac.

I’m just excited to see that they have posted some protocols. Restricted excursions is the item that saddens me, as a moderately experienced cruiser I usually take local port excursions now. In my early days of cruising I enjoyed the Carnival excursions but now I much prefer small or family groups. 

 

There are many of us that will abide by whatever protocols are set in place so we can cruise again. Others that are on the fence or know they won’t cruise with these protocols should still hang on to your reservations if you can until final payment and keep fingers crossed, things could change. This will be an evolving situation and cruising is still a great vacation value for our $$$.  I’ll be back on board as soon as I can, and whether or not I had travel plans I am relieved to have received my first vaccine with appt. for the second one already.

It says thru the date cdc has their protocols, they next oct. Cdc protocols are up to nov 1st for testing, and cover what carnival has to do if a positive etc.

 

How can people know the cdc protocols are until nov 1, 2021 and be surprised carnival is saying it will comply. It's been all over these boards the expectation cruiseline approved excursions off the ship, stay in a bubble expected as we see that's what msc etc did to cruise. What surprises me is anyone is surprised carnival says they will do the same. ..and yes I'm booked carnival this sept and knew about the 3 tests to cruise and dont like it but will comply to cruise.

 

Let's hope by nov 1 2021 the cdc doesnt extend their order.

Everyone on the ship could be placed on the No Fly List.

 

When someone tests positive the CDC will be notified

- then the Department of Homeland Security will be notified

and they will have a list of every passenger on the ship.

They should.  But even with a vaccine, you may still have COVID.  What's not clear with vaccines is if the COVID is transmittable or how long a vaccine can protect you.  Some are saying up to a year, but vaccines haven't been available that long.

Also, temperature checks are worthless.  If you have a fever over 101 degrees, or 104 degrees which is typical of severe COVID patients, you ain't gonna do anything, much less schlep yourself down to a ship.  for the rest of us, you can lower your forehead temperature with a cold cloth.

 

But thankfully they aren't requiring the silly double masking stuff.

I agree with DebOinKC.  a cruise is a cruise.  I want to feel the breeze on my face. see the sunrise from the Lido deck, eat a ton of food (blue iguana breakfast burritos) and many many more.

We are at the point in our cruising careers that we don't really take any kind of shore excursions anymore.  The "rules" in place at this point in time will change, I am sure - some for better, some possibly for worse.

We use the ship as a floating hotel - our favorite times are when the ship goes into a port and most people get off to explore.  The ship is quiet, and we have all the facilities pretty much to ourselves, with very few people left onboard. Wearing a mask in public places - we do it now.  We always have a balcony, so can relax without a mask on it, without worrying about people walking next to us or passing us without masks outdoors.  Our next cruise is not until January.  A lot can change between then and now.  Still need a vaccine before we will cruise again. (or even eat inside a restaurant!)

I would think PCL and HAL will also follow soon with these restrictions, as they are CCL companies? We have a PCL May 2021, a CCL SEP 2021 and a CCL DEC 2021 cruise currently booked.  I expect the May 2021 to be cancelled by PCL.  We are going to cancel the SEP 2021 cruise for sure.  No way do we want to cruise like this, although none of this is surprising.  It's enough having to wear a mask almost everywhere but having to be tested, making reservations for everything, etc. - not a vacation. Like another poster said, paying for things we won't even get to enjoy.  And there's hell to pay where I work if we travel out of state, let alone take a cruise - God forbid!  I have to go through water boarding just to return to my office! 😡  We'll just go ahead and plan more land based vacations like we did for 2020.  Who knows when/if cruising will ever return to even the slightest hint of normalcy, if it ever does.

I agree as well. I would prefer vaccine over having to be limited on the the things you can do and places you can go.

It is on the payment screen where you enter your payment info. you have to check both boxes to process payment

Just because people do not want to cruise under these measures do not mean they are not compliant. For me with children, it would be an added stress and not very enjoyable when paying that amount of money.

Yes, thankfully!  We have never minded wearing a mask, but we have no intention of taking the vaccine.  We took a family vacation last year (my wife and I more than one).  We went to an amusement park and shows while wearing masks.  It was not an issue for us.  Since both of our cruises for this year have already been cancelled, we plan on doing the same this year.  However, we are looking forward to cruising again next April!  That is, unless vaccines are required.

Looks like very onerous conditions.  Just one example, if I read this correctly; if you exhibit symptoms, or come in contact with a suspected sick person, while in a distant port, you can be denied re-embarking and then what, left on the dock?  Not for me thank you.

I posed this very question to our PVP a few months ago and got a big "nobody knows."  In our case, I was curious about the beach at Mahogany Bay.

 

Carnival writes: "Shore side visits may be also limited to port areas that have no public access." 

 

Does anyone know if these ports with beaches/pools (Mahogany Bay, GT, Amber Cove) have public access, because that seems right now to be the determining factor?  I'm thinking Mahogany Bay might be closed off from the public, but I'm pretty sure GT is not since we've walked up the beach to Jack's.  Never been to Amber Cove to know the answer to that one.

Amber Cove and Mahogany Bay are pretty well locked down. You have to meet outside tour guides and non-union taxi drivers off of the property. Grand Turk is a little looser. They have vendors that set up beach chairs in front of the carnival beach chairs and charge for them. I think it could be locked down though.
