To each his own:  Vegas is probably the last place I would fly to.

I think the point was flying to Vegas from SFO or Oakland is kind of like taking a bus ride -- easy peasy.

I flew into Vegas a couple of years ago to visit the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam.  Wasn't planned but the night we were in Vegas was Halloween.  It was pretty fun being out on the strip that night.

Well, technically Seattle is within driving distance.  Between SF, So California, and Seattle you have a fair number of opportunities.

Exactly, plus I'm not normal poodle size, more of great dane size so sitting in a little seat, hunching to use the bathroom, bumping my head all over the place, worrying about getting bumped by carts and people, unless I can get reasonably priced first class seats, sucks. I can stand it for 30 min - 40 min, 6, 7, 8+ hours, nope.

LOL. I just got a notice that Jose' Andres' Jaleo in Vegas is going to be featuring black truffles but I still wouldn't go. Living in the West there's not a single destination that I would be interested in that departs from out here. I'm more Europe and South America.

Bazaar Meats is more my style.

Vegas is like a giant Carnival cruise. The strip ship! It's not for everyone, just as highbrow folk don't like Carnival cruises, the same types will find Vegas beneath their high class standards. Me? I love it. I'm more of the Miller High Life commercial type. I'm rich in all that matters and find Vegas to be awesome. Nothing like a balcony room in the Cosmo blvd tower, above 50th floor, smoking a cigar, having a cocktail, seeing the lights and valley shine, hearing Frank on and the fountains dancing and just feeling the energy of the place. It's fantastic! It's one of my happy places.

A bus ride being easy is hardly sufficient reason to take it -- certainly not if you have no interest in the destination.   There are several reasons for taking any trip: the destination or the comfort/pleasure in getting there.

In my view bus rides suck and Vegas lacks anything I want to spend my time doing -- it is hard to come up with anything much worse than a bus ride (or even a plane flight) to Vegas.

I understand completely.  I'm pretty tall.  I do fly all over the place but probably wouldn't if I couldn't afford to pay for extra legroom.

I've been to Vegas about 20 times (All for conventions) As I dont gamble, time off has always been spent wandering the strip and people watching and wandering into new hotels.    Have to say, it's always a blast.  But would I ever make it a "destination"?   Nope.  As an aside, there is ONE restaurant I love in the city.   It's Hugo's Cellar (On Freemont St in "Old Las Vegas".    Makes you think you re back in the 50's with the Rat Pack.    Food is ABSOLUTELY top notch, and service impecable.  You just have to get over the fact that it's located in the somewhat seedy Freemont st, in an even seedier third rate casino, and is in their basement!

Vegas has become a real food hot spot. I'm sure proximity to LA has something to do with that. Joel Robuchon, currently closed due to COVID, is just one. Diner for two with wine pairings probably in the realm of $K!

As possibly the best French restaurant in town, the dining experience at Joël Robuchon comes with one of the highest average check prices. Guests can expect to pay nearly $500 per person for the signature, 16-course degustation menu.Dec 17, 2019

We ate at L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon in Paris.

Would I go to Vegas to eat there?  Nope. Not a fan of Vegas.

Totally. Suprisingly (or not) the best dinner we've had (so far) was in Budapest. Second best Barcelona.

Ours was in Greve in Chianti - halfway between Florence and Sienna -- the cannelonni and veal were beyond description but the owner and his wife/waitress were the true magic.  The joy Italians find in living is beyond description.

Absolutely After our Budapest feast we asked to see the chef who spoke no English. But we understood each other with grins and hugs.

As someone who volunteers at a food panty, I just find this totally OBNOXIOUS!

As someone who's been making monthly donations, including stimulus checks, to our local food bank , I don't find it any more OBNOXIOUS than owning a luxury car or a mansion. But *I* wouldn't pay that much for a meal.

Not right now, but I put in my time at our food pantry, so seeing the world is fine. You are welcome to disagree.

Bravo! Such a virtuous person. I wonder how it was known that the person criticized was craven?

It is obnoxious to want to cover your costs and make money from your business😳? The ingredients they use already are expensive and the work that goes into designing each dish can take up to a year so personally I'm OK if they pay the staff accordingly for their work. These numbers are not plucked out of thin air and the profit margins are actually pretty thin. As somone who indulges in the luxury of travel to me it is very hypocritical to be criticising what other luxuries people want to spend their money on.
