A day out in Livorno for us, starting at Acquario di Livorno & finishing with a late lunch at La Perla del Gusto. We also took photos of the Bagni Lido which we will hopefully get to use on a future visit.

Citivecchia

Because we had previously visited Rome we decided to explore Citivecchia on our cruise in April 2019 on Aurora. We didn't stay long because the weather was awful and when we arrived at the dockside the port authorities weren't letting anyone or any cars on the dockside because the wind was blowing water and stones over the sea wall! We had to wait in a terminal building until we were advised to go back into Citivecchia to get some lunch as it was likely to be a while before we could get back on  board.I think there were about 200 of us in a similar situation.Several tugs were sent to hold Aurora against the harbour wall.We eventually got back on  to the ship.

First time in Civitavecchia we  thought would be our last!!!

Arrived  after a cruise  debarked and waited for our taxi transfer

and waited and waited.  Eventually got them on the phone and

we think ( no speaka da italiano) they said they stopped doing

port pickups months ago!   Well plane waits for no man so

100 euro later  we get a taxi bringing someone to the ship to

take us to the airport.  That was enough (apart from being unable

to spell it )  to put us off going again.

Of course eventually we did  as a port stop - dont think we would

chance ending a cruise there again.

Anyway this is that second visit - we have been to Rome a couple of

times so had planned on going to Tarquinia

Didnt go  it was around the time they changed many of the bus stops

and we couldnt find where the bus went from though it was at the opposite

end of the town to where the port shuttle dropped us.

We then decided to just do what we usually do and explore so all

our pics are in Civi......   There is also a quick history  I will show first.

Hi everyone, what a fantastic series of pictures and, as Eddie99 says, it is wonderful to see the blue skies and also to see crowds of people.....will we ever get back to that??

I haven't had chance to post pictures as I've been having computer problems but now it is fixed, i hope you don't mind me doing a 'catch up' so I'm starting in Southampton and making my way, in port order, to Civitavecchia....177207512_LeavingSouthampton.thumb.JPG.9e5e2da5d72a0bbe0573d3e5abf25d95.JPG

We had beautiful weather in Rome, I remember seeing a Japanese family wearing masks at the Vatican and thinking how strange....who would have guessed what was about to happen the following year!

Fantastic photos, Civitavecchia is so much more than "the port for Rome".

Civitavecchia is our son's favourite port. Lunch at Mastro Titta, an afternoon at SNC Civitavecchia Water Polo club and a nice stroll down the promenade back to the port.
