Cruising Without Masks?

I don't see how they can ever sail with unvaccinated "folks" as you Americans say. I love that word "folks". What if at some point they get hundreds of unvaccinated folks perhaps on a 2 week TA. They could get a serious outbreak onboard. They only have about 5 beds at most in the medical centre you know.

If this virus works it’s way thru the population and goes away why would everyone need to be vaccinated - I’m talking years from now - not immediate future.  For all we know it could be around for ever.   But in the immediate future, they should strongly consider vaccinated pax only.

CDC set to announce that it’s safe to be around each other if vaccinated w out masks Thursday.

Oh my goodness.... I've been waiting for this announcement. I would imagine this is for social gatherings where you are assured all folks are vaccinated. I can not imagine this can be carried out in public settings such as inside retail and grocery stores for example. I can't wait to see how this new guidance is worded. Thank you for this info.

Small pox is a classic example. It wasn't until 1979 that the virus was considered eradicated. The first vaccine were developed in the late 18th, early 19th century.

Apart from on CRUISE SHIPS 😮😮

I read a news report that says the new guidance will say that fully vaccinated people can gather IN SMALL GROUPS without masks. That does not sound like a cruise ship is included in that guidance.

I've been gathering in small maskless groups indoors for the last year, never an issue.

You and your small maskless groups have been very lucky. That has not been the guidance by the CDC all along. Personally, the only person I have been close to without  mask since this pandemic started is my husband. I have played it safe but not like a hermit either. I have had quite a great time living my life this past year but smartly and safely.

This is my problem with all of it, the total randomness. Just based on the fact that you're fine if you're seated, but mask on if you're standing. There's no science in this.

It may not be "science" but it surely is common sense. Here is how I see it..........If your seated, then people around you can judge easily how far to keep their distance from you. When someone is moving around without a mask on, then it is difficult to maintain the proper social distancing. Masking when not seated works very well in restaurants and bars for people to maintain proper social distancing. That is just how I see it but it makes sense to me.

Only it’s not so much about distance as it is particles, right? That’s the reason for masks, to contain the particles? So you sit down, breathe, the AC floats your particles over to the next table. They go everywhere.

If you can smell the food your neighbor is being served, you can definitely inhale their Covid breath. If you can smell the food when you walk in, that’s coming from the kitchen or the tables. To me, this is common sense as well.

It is all about the concentration of those particles in those aerosols. The further away you are from the source, the less of the virus particles you are exposed to. Masking is all a part of that source control. It is all about the viral load.

I am not a virologist or any kind of expert in the health field. I do however, read an awful lot about Covid and am constantly researching all sorts of different aspects about this pandemic.

You are right about 2 things.  You are not a virologist and you are not any sort of expert in the health field.  You consume pandemic porn churned out by media who work for ratings and clicks.  There's A LOT of dissent among "the experts" with the ones who dissent based on science and common sense being CENSORED by the ones who benefit financially from being talking heads on Media shows that are going HARD after ratings, because it means $$$$.  Fear SELLS, if it bleeds, it leads.  And the shear volume of the contradictions we've seen from Fauci, the CDC, the WHO etc., in the last 12 months should make us ALL hardened skeptics.  North Dakota, Georgia, FLORIDA, Texas and the other states that either did not lockdown or did so minimally are just fine !  California and most of the east coast are a flaming dumpster fire.  Covid is real, but there are vaccines and there are ridiculously successful treatments available.  Do what YOU feel that YOU need to do to protect YOURSELF.  But stay away from me and my life.  Stop trying to control other people with your pandemic porn.  I'm a 68 yer old asthmatic with Type 2, hypertension and I'm overweight.  That's 5 out of 6 Covid comorbidities, and I still say no mask for me, thank you for allowing me to make my own decisions about my life and my body.

In the last 12 months I've been to Branson, MO and Rapid City, SD.  I've been to Lutsen, MN and 4 months later did an overnight beer run to Two Harbors, MN.  I've been to Lacrosse, WI and Wisconsin Dells, WI - twice for each city.  And in May I'll be in Florida for 10 days  I've used the same mask for 4-5 months at a time.  It lives in either a purse pocket or a coat pocket and I hate it.  If Covid really is all that easily transmitted, then I've pretty done everything I'm not supposed to do and STILL managed to avoid it, even though I'm 100% in the vulnerable demographic.  Somebody is lying about this virus, and it's not me!

I really miss going on trips; I'm glad you have been getting to do that. My husband doesn't want to even go out to eat, and I respect his choices, but some of this stuff is getting old!

I’m told, they take your information when vaccinated and it goes into a database. The nurse that injected me put the data in her computer. Not sure this is the case in all locations. Florida at Advent Health Daytona.

I had not heard anything about the vaccination information going into database somewhere, but it makes sense that they would be compiling the information somewhere with all the chatter about vaccination passports. The clinic I went to was a drive through operation at a fire station processing 12 vehicles a time in the truck bays, plus a walk-in line. They did somewhere around 6,500 shots in five days the week of 8 February. I had to fill out a form before receiving the shot. The form wanted my name, address and phone number, email address, gender, ethnicity, race, and both my parent’s full names; plus there were 8 questions I had to answer. I am going to try and find out if there is a database somewhere that they are compiling this information.

It will be wonderful to sail without masks!  I truly hope they are not going to require a vaccine because that will mean the end of cruising for me.  What happens to those who cannot take the vaccine?

As of this last weekend, there are now 3 different vaccines approved for use in the United States with the addition of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. I would suggest talking to your doctor to see if you could take one of them. I also imagine that there will be other vaccines coming in the future that may let you cruise again.

We have have to agree to disagree. There is always the possibility you have contracted the virus and were lucky enough to be asymptomatic. Asymptomatic carriers infect other people and are not aware they are infecting others. Hope you continue to be lucky.

They may have to have Covid testing before boarding and while on board. It is either that or seek land vacations until this pandemic is under control and there is herd immunity globally.

CANNOT or WILLNOT are two different things. If you CANNOT they may make exemption but they will want proof that can be confirmed by your doctor in some fashion and not something you can forge on Microsoft Word I imagine. If you WILLNOT then hard lines.

So you want no mask and no vaccine requirement on the ships. I don't forsee that happening anytime soon.
