Thanks for the pictures of all that I missed that day.  It was my birthday and I was sick with bronchitis and stayed on the ship.  My excursion that day was a visit to the ship's medical dept. Hopefully I will get there again.

Such a sad way to spend your birthday 😔

It there is an itinerary with it take advantage of it - or a river cruise on the River Duuro or even a land trip.

I always fear getting sick and missing a port.  It has happened once or twice.  I'm so sorry you missed Porto!

Wow! We have a trio of painted buntings at our platform feeder! I've never seen one in my life and have now been blessed with 5 so far. I hope they are nesting nearby and come to visit often!

I love lilacs. They remind me of my mom and my childhood. We had huge lilac bushes and they were right outside my bedroom window. Will never forget the lovely scent. Today would also have been my mom's 94th birthday.

@kb4683 beautiful photos and the fish looked delicious! Thanks for posting.

I would love to see a painted bunting here!  I can't believe how many colors they are.  Like a small version of a parrot!

Have happy memories of your Mom today.  We never forget their birthdays after they are gone.

Good morning. Thanks for the Daily.

Happy Mother's Day to the Moms here and in heaven.

Good days, although Moscato's a bit sweet for me. I like the steak and potatoes but am not a chimicurri fan. I like Roy's meal and the wine.

I've been to Portugal, but on a land trip, not a cruise. I appreciate the pictures.

It's rainy all day and in the 30's; not nice at all. I used to walk in the Race for the Cure on Mother's Day, along with about 25,000 others, but it's been virtual last year and this year.

@StLouisCruisers So glad to hear your sister is out of ICU!

@ger_77 That was so kind of you to do that for your friend.

Prayers for the care list and cheers to the celbration list.

Stay safe and wear your mask.

Good morning, and HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY  to all the mothers.

It is an interesting collection of days.  The quote is worth striving to follow.  I know I've had Moscato, but don't really remember it.  Will pass on the wine and the meal suggestion.  Tonight we'll be having sausage cooked on the grill, fresh squash and fresh corn-on-the-cob.  That will complement our wine nicely.  🍷

@StLouisCruisers  Such good news that your DS is now in a regular room and has a phone.  Hope she heals fast and is home soon.

We've been to Leixoes and Porto three times, and for once all on HAL.  In 2004 on the Noordam and 2011 on the Prinsendam, we stayed in Oporto.  The first time, we took the shuttle into town and walked around.  The second visit, we took the HO-HO and also did a tour of the Sandeman cellars.  In 2011, we did a tour to Guimaraes to see an old castle and the town.  I'll post the pictures of Guimaraes in another post.

Here are some of my pictures of Porto and Leixoes, and I'll try not to duplicate previous pictures, which I enjoyed.  I agree the train station is amazing.  We often find ourselves checking our local stations, but none beat the one in Porto.

I'll start with Sandeman

After the tour and tasting, we took a boat tour on the Douro River.

I don't remember if this was in the train station or some place else.

The Sunday air show is in full swing. The jet show teams were nice enough not to buzz us until a little after 9:00 AM.  Our building is the eastern ocean side turning point for the jet teams. We don't get the same view as the spectators on the beach, but the commute is better and there's no parking hassle. Snacks, beverages and ready access to bathroom facilities are another plus of home-viewing.

You're welcome. The winds are around 11 mph with slightly higher gusts. That's pretty standard here on the beach. -- At least until the end of June, when the winds usually die down until early September.

FWIW, the sky is much bluer in person in person that it appears in the livestream.

Good morning, everyone!   Happy Mother's Day to all the moms.  Steak and potatoes make a good meal for Mom.   The drink of the day kind of describes the weather here in northeast Ohio.   100% chance of rain all day long.

Today's  meal is a good one for Dad to do on the grill.   It uses flank steak and there are great suggestions on how to make sure your flank steak is tender and not just a chew fest.

Happy Mother's Day!!  A quick post with the drink.  Will come back later to get caught up.

Dark and Stormy:

A Dark ’n’ Stormy is a highball cocktail made with dark rum and ginger beer served over ice and garnished with a slice of lime. Lime juice and simple syrup are also frequently added. This drink is very similar to the Moscow mule except that the Dark 'n' Stormy has dark rum instead of vodka. Wikipedia
Ingredients: 2 oz Dark Rum, 3 1/3 oz Ginger Beer, Couple dashes of bitters
Preparation: In a highball glass filled with ice, add dark rum and top with ginger beer. Garnish with lime wedge.
Served: On the rocks; poured over ice
Standard garnish: Lime wedge
Drinkware: Highball glass

Since I am addicted to the Dark 'n' Stormy, I will add to the description.  This drink originated in Bermuda is was originally Gosling's Black Seal Rum and Barritt's Ginger Beer.  Gosling later started selling their own labelled Ginger Beer and now we can even get it in diet version.

@Seasick Sailor  Wow, three more painted buntings.  I would love to see some here.

In 2011, we took a tour to Guimaraes about 55km outside of Porto.  It is known for it's well preserved medieval buildings, including Guimaraes Castle.

A few of pictures of the castle.  The bright lights inside play havoc with pictures, and the camera cannot do the stained glass windows in the chapel justice.

Happy Mother's Day!

It is cloudy here today.  I am hoping the mixed showers of rain and hail we have been having lately hold off.

Thank you for including me in the Shoutout list Roy.  So far so good.  Only some slight pain in my arm last night.

"Mothers are like buttons.  They hold everything together."

Cheers!

Good morning, all.  Happy Mother's Day.  So far, I have watched a bit of the air show and been to Mass (virtually, off course),  so it has been a busy morning.  We haven't been to Porto - it was to have been on a cruise this summer, but not any more...  So I have enjoyed it vicariously here!

My lilac has been blooming for a couple of weeks, I think it will last just a few more days.

Got up a bit early on Mother's day to see one of my old ships, Holland America Line's Noordam, arriving in the Port of L.A. / San Pedro and then "parking" at her assigned berth at the World Cruise Center/berth #93. Thank you to her chief engineer, Robert, for the heads up! 😁 She's looking pretty good after more than a year without pax! There IS now light at the end of the tunnel for HAL and their ships!

Happy Mothers Day to all Moms!

One of my favorite cruise memories we were in Skagway, Alaska on Mothers Day 2017.  It is a mission parish that is only open part of the year.  We arrived early (easy walk to the church from the port) and helped the priest open the church up!  We laughed when we found out he was from our area and knew the town we lived in!

This afternoon I will go an visit Mom, I will take her out to lunch tomorrow (avoiding crowds today)  she said we didn't need to go to lunch, I told her it has been  15 months since we had lunch out and we are both vaccinated, we will go on a less busy day and eat out on a patio!

The steak and potatoes look wonderful, I'll save that idea for later this week.  Hubby bought some beef ribs to BBQ for dinner tonight.  Our Mothers Day and Fathers Day gift to us was a new BBQ!  Our last one just wore out from use last year, and with the pandemic we had just not replaced it,  so last week we finally did!

Have a wonderful day, hugs to all Mothers out there and prayers to those whose Mothers have passed.

Densie
