A workaround for the Florida does not allow businesses to ask for proof of vaccine problem for cruise lines

Here is what one Florida rock concert promoter is doing. You do not need to show proof of vaccinations to buy a ticket, however the price is much, much lower if you do show your proof.

Clever.  I predict it will fail grander than Fyer Festival but at least they're thinking.

 

My question will be how many of those $18 tix are sold using fradulent vax cards?  They're trivially easy to replicate.  I think State law enforcement might want to investigate if this is inducing illegal behavior.

I posted a link elsewhere carnival was approved for mock sailings, from the 3 starting usa ports, including miami and port Canaveral.  Carnival has said numerous times they arent asking. 

 

What is the pt of a workaround if carnival says they arent asking idk. Just idle speculation. Doesnt apply to carnival.

Has Carnival announced any test sailings? None that I am aware of. Seattle is still in the US, so there are 4.

I love this idea. Charge 9,999 pp for a non vaccinated inside room (no 3Rd and 4th person discount) They can say ‘we aren’t REQUIRING vaccinations and at the same time hit the CDCs required 95% vaccinated and skipping all the Covid protocols.

Carnival has said they are not requiring vaccinations. That was in the past. Now if you want to cruise to Alaska, you need proof of vaccination. Does anyone else see a camel's nose under the tent? I predict the whole camel will be asking for proof of vaccinations company wide.

Actually I think they indicated they weren't planning on requiring vaccines. Plans change.

So it's just like I thought, a business can ask.  However, the business can't deny service based on vaccination status.  If Carnival wanted to, they can have passengers upload their vaccination cards for their records.  As it is now, it sure seems like at least unvaccinated people will need to take a covid test to sail since a lot of the ports require negative covid tests and/or proof of vaccination.

It makes perfect sense for a business to not deny service based on vaccination status, but just have accommodations for the unvaccinated.  However, it might be walking a thin line to charge a vaccinated person a different rate than an unvaccinated person.  Talk about really crossing a line into personal health information.  

I've been to several Florida concerts that were outdoors.  Barely anyone wore masks and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time living life.  That's the crowd I prefer, not the ones who would charge a different price based on health status. I'm vaccinated, but would never attend anything like that.  That's just not my crowd.

Where I work in The Villages Health. At the primary care centers and specialty center patients are asked if they have been FULLY vaccinated or not, if so, no mask required, if not, mask is required. Fully vaccinated means 2 weeks from final shot.

Perhaps to the unvaxed it makes sense. I think it makes perfect sense to deny service. Put your customer's health above profits.

 

Different rates are charged all the time - insurance policies for smokers vs non-smokers are an example. Paying by cash vs credit card. Member vs non-member rates at hotels, museums, etc.

In my most humble opinion Carnival is crazy to go the route of not requiring vaccinations to cruise, which (from my understanding) will require social distancing and an all around less pleasurable experience at the various shows, comedy clubs, etc. 

 

I have several cruises booked in 2021 and 2022 and if Carnival does indeed indicate that they'll go the non-vaccinated route I'll be seriously looking into rebooking with another cruise line.

I think this is very telling

I think the simple way around it is-

not vaccinated? Test required. Mask required at all times in public. No buffets. 
You are vaccinated?

Wristband given and must be worn at all times.

No mask once ship sets sail.

The law wouldn't have passed the Florida Senate if it was going to impact the cruise lines since almost the entire state is impacted by the shutdown.

Hopefully a resolution is announced today or tomorrow, June 1 is the mediation deadline.

 

If not, unvaxxed can book only inside cabins on the 3 lowest desks, have one designated eating area for all their meals, can only attend show rehearsals, and cannot leave the ship for excursions as local ports won't allow them to.🤫🤥

It would be hard to prove in court how the difference in cost is the price of doing business with an unvaccinated person.  They would have to quantify that somehow using data.  I think it would be considered unlawful otherwise.

OP here, and unfortunately I thought of a workaround for the unvaccinated that unfortunately fits what goes on in the real world. This procedure would be a perfect opportunity for scalpers to buy lots and lots of tickets. They could price them on the secondary market for well above $18 and below $999 and still make a large profit.

 

Oh well, it was a good idea for a while.😢

I am not sure an unvaccinated person would even want to attend an event where they were charged nearly $1,000 more than someone who was vaccinated.  What's the next move?  Putting scales at the entrance of buffets and charging someone more for every pound they are overweight?  Charging smokers to enter casinos?  Charging alcoholics more to enter a bar?

A person who has had covid could have the same immunities, or even more, than a person who is vaccinated.  How is that fair to treat the person with covid immunities differently?  The entire thing is ridiculous, but there are those who are fine with it.
