With the specials on cruises lately I am thinking the cruise companies are not selling as many as the media claims.

Even $80 pn interior on the first P&O.

Cheap as chips, is that twin or quad share per person?

That lined up with several forced cancellations because of vaccination requirements.

It is true though, there is only 2 ships operating between now and the end of August and initially with reduced capacity. Still, the early ones are winter cruises, with many not going anywhere exotic to escape the weather, and being sold on relatively short notice. The first few for P&O and Princess have now sold out, but I wonder how it would be if P&O had an extra ship and Carnival Splendor was here as originally planned.

Booze package                  $151

Wonderland and chops      $100 each

Jamies.                                 $84

That price is ridiculous. Hoping to pick up a decent Black Friday sale on drink package for our Dec cruise otherwise we will BYO wine.

nel in Sydney has a similar concept to Wonderland and prices look to be much and much the same. Jamies seem rather expensive for a non fancy restaurant.

Quantum out of Brisbane is not selling very well ,I don’t know about Carnival Group but I think it would be the same.

And you are dead right the media is hyping the sales up.

I generally expect to pay half on a ship for what I would get at an equivalent restaurant in Australia - no GST, cheaper wages, overheads shared between the restaurateur & the ship, and importantly you have a 3 course MDR meal already included in your fare.

An example, Luke Mangan Salt Grill on P&O - $59pp. To get the same in either of his Sydney restaurants, you are looking at least double that. I am not up to date with what Princess Crown Grill will cost here this season, but think it is around 1/2 of what Chops Grill is charging.

If I think I am being "nickel & dimed", I am more than happy to do MDR each night, and take wine + cans of soft drink aboard.

I can now see the Princess Crown Grill pricing for my October cruise.

Chops Grille $100 vs Crown Grill $29. It isn't a quality thing either, as I think that Crown runs rings around Chops

There a lot of unhappy RC customers out there.

Some one reported the onboard booze package at $164

Well, if they aren't selling very well and the specialty restaurants are deserted, they might need to rethink their strategy. The current sale looks pretty good for booking a cruise, but they are missing a March booking from me while they have those onboard prices.

I’m starting to think it might be a sign of financial trouble.

The other lines don’t seem to be doing these big price hikes.

All of the lines are still losing money day to day, and their share prices are tanking again. Carnival has put out another billion dollar bond issue to raise cash and looks like Royal is hoping to collect their billion from drink packages 😉

What about Royal preparing to go to inclusive pricing?  Internet, tips. drinks like Celebrity.

Or

Drink packages having a cap on them like P&O Australia.

Both groups have a long way before making a profit and times don’t look good.

RCL shares are down to about $0.51 ,they have 3 ships currently being built worth over $4 billion. Icon ,Utopia and  Ascent.
They certainly are going need to find money and that’s a lot of drinks they need to sell.
There’s a rumour that Disney want Royal Caribbean International.
I don’t know how true it is but Disney could swallow it and still be hungry.

I don't know if true or not either, but where there is smoke .... With share prices near historic lows, they are takeover targets for anyone with the resources to ride out the current market, but they can only be looking at it if they see a big benefit to their own shareholders. Disney is in the same sector though, and their market cap is sliding too.

What does the Royal fraternity make of this ?

Ovation is doing week turn arounds out of Honolulu next season???

I can see Quantum,Radiance and enchantment on their way to Australia.

Do you think Hindrick Loy will bring Wonder down under.

Here’s it’s scheduled for that time of the year.

Could they get around the PVSA if they did a few Hawaiian cruises?

Maybe Hawaii has approached the US Govt for an exemption.  Is the PVSA exemption for Alaska open-ended or only for a fixed time?

Possibly.

 I’m not sure about Alaska.

It would be to far to Mexico, the other lines seem to do it, I wonder how.
I think with the PVSA the ship has to be American built and crewed.
