Crew & Masks

Any news if and when the crew will NOT have to wear masks?

Its optional now as far as I know so its up to them if they want to or not. If they want to continue then its entirely their choice (completely understandable)

They are optional for crew now, but can be reinstated by the captain.  I follow Jordon Bauth (on of the ice skaters on Voyager that does a blog) and her vlog last week said they had gone back to wearing the "blue" RCCL surgical masks.  I'm not sure how long that lasted.

Back on April 2 when we boarded EN, we ran into the CD (Bobby) and talked to him for a bit.  They were supposed to drop it that day, but corporate changed their minds.   And, of course in July there were wearing them.  Hopefully for our Nov b2b on Jewel, they won't have to.  They have to be tired of them and it can be hard to understand anyone with a strong accent.  They spend a lot of time repeating themselves or pulling it down long enough to make themselves understood.

I'm hoping by our cruise on Allure in a couple weeks many of the crew will not be wearing masks. It is hard for me because I have hearing issues (deaf in one ear and I do wear hearing aids) -- therefore difficult to understand many of the accents.  I feel bad that the great crewmembers that have to repeat themselves when we talk. I don't think people appreciate how much we all lip read when we're talking to people.

Agreed. I felt so bad for the crew and it was so difficult to communicate.

Crew on Quantum are wearing them and we’ve had no issues as we are wearing them in most public places, especially theater, casino, and elevators.

Glad to hear this, since we'll be on Quantum next week. We plan to mask also (well, except when we're eating and drinking!) We haven't had Covid yet, and not even a cold for almost 3 years...and I'd like to keep it that way!

I can’t blame the crew for wanting to still wear the mask. If they are still testing them and with this latest variant being so contagious I’d want to avoid quarantine too. I couldn’t imagine being stuck in one of those small cabins for 5 days or however long they make them.

I heard that if you’ve never gotten Covid yet that this is the variant that is getting you and it sure has been true for my family and my extended family. We all had mild symptoms but most of us are now getting Covid for the first time. And have only masked when mandatory.

Every single person I've known whose had this latest variant has had very mild symptoms.  DH and I as far as we know haven't had it, unless of course we're like a lot of people who have minimal or no symptoms.  We have only worn masks the last 2.5 years when required and never by our choice.  Crew even when wearing masks all the time have had positive cases.    There is a YTer named Jordan Bauth who is an ice skater.  She's had Covid twice onboard and was isolated in a guest cabin.  As far as I know, no crew is isolating in the crew area.  They are moved to guest cabins in the quarantine/isolation area.

Just off Adventure. Some crew wearing masks, some not.

Perfect.  Hope they're all going to 'optional'.  Staff have been treated like 2nd class citizens for long enough....last I heard they're all adults fully capable of making their own choices.

That you know of.  Plenty of people have had covid, just never knew it

Very true. I stand corrected- we haven't ever tested positive for covid, haven't had any symptoms, and haven't been prevented from taking any cruises because of covid. (And I'd like to keep it that way.)
