What cruise line would you recommend?

I'm looking for a cruise line with quiet places to read and relax while looking out over the water.  I love educational programs and am constantly learning, not so much into pool parties or trivia.  I'm in my early 50's.  Not rich, but comfortably middle class.  I work in health care, have Aspergers, and am looking for a peaceful cruise to recharge my batteries.

Thank you very kindly.

small ship  without  the climbing walls/race track etc

Most ships if you have a balcony cabin it is pretty peaceful

Our preferred line is Oceania   but I am sure there are others  that would suit your needs

Most ships have lounges that are empty during the day, or have trivia in one part that you can distance yourself from.  The Spirit class of Carnival have a passage around the bow of the ship on deck 3 that has large round windows with chairs and tables.  Most people never find it, much of the traffic through is crew.  The forward Crows Nest lounge on HAL is under utilized during the day.  If you choose Cunard, there is always the library…. Ask on the boards here for the various cruise lines which ships they would recommend.  EM

Can I suggest that you check out Viking Ocean?  They feature a higher space:passenger ratio, and the ships are configured so as to maximize the number of spots that are perfect for relaxing and recharging.  Each cruise also features resident lecturers, who are generally first-rate, and offer a variety of formal and more informal opportunities to learn new things.  All of the cabins have balconies, so that provides another opportunity to rest/recharge in complete privacy.  And none of the ships have casinos on board, which also lends itself to a quieter atmosphere overall.

If you book a balcony cabin, almost any ship will do.  You're completely in charge of your activity schedule ... there's nothing I like better than sitting out on the balcony with coffee or juice or champagne and a book ... watching the world go by.  So read reviews to create a list of ships that have good educational opportunities.  I'm always amazed at the 'foundation knowledge' I gather from reading reviews about ships, restaurants and hotels.

Oceania. Wonderful libraries and numerous other quiet spaces on both the 670 and 1200 passenger ships. The two 1200 passenger ships even have a covered/secluded outdoor area called the Sanctuary.

Honestly, almost every ship has this. Even the "loud party" ships have tons of quiet spaces where you can read. The adults-only areas can be very relaxing. However, you will need to go to a premium line if you want to be choosy on where you can go. You can't go to a main pool on a mass market and expect any type of quiet.

I was only a Holland America cruiser till last cruise, went for local port departure on Royal Caribbean, this past September. Not again, no quiet spots to do reading email or looking out on the sea.  If I wanted to read it was back to the room. I think Holland America is the line for you.  Local departure port wasn't for us.

Our favorites are Regent, Silversea and Seabourn. Small ships, older passengers, seldom children, no art auctions or photographers, about 1 to 1 passenger to crew ratio, tips and all drinks included, some include air and excursions, always plenty of room out on deck.

One of the reasons I don't like the ships with the central boulevards.  For this particular thing, I enjoy the Princess Grand class ships.  While not small, the design has many comfortable public places to sit with a good book and a view of the ocean passing by.

The mass market lines I've used (RCI, Princess, Celebrity, & Carnival) seem to have dropped the educational talks.   It seems like a lot of folks enjoyed these and that they would be a relatively inexpensive offering.   But sadly, that is the current situation.
