jencruzin Posted December 30, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 30, 2022 Our upcoming cruise next year was $5645.42. Now, the same cruise is....$7050.42. That's a $1405 price hike. Air2Sea, flights were $1175.36 for both of us, now it is $1829.70. That's a $654.34 price hike. Of course, grand total of our savings (so far, without checking on excursion, meal package, etc) is now $2059.34. Have these massive price hikes/GOUGES made any of you think....NEVER AGAIN yet? My airfare was over $500, now what I have would cost over $1400. My hotel price doubled since I booked in Miami. Galveston up only $10 hotel. Everything is up. 2024 prices on harmony are up from 2023 harmony prices. Book less possibly, but not stay home.
Rare Liljo22 Posted December 30, 2022 #3 Share Posted December 30, 2022 I wouldn't say never again. Some cruises are priced high. Others are were I expect. I have a price point I am willing to spend on a cruise for my family of 4. If I can find a cruise in the price on a ship that I like, I book it. If not, I will do a land based vacation that falls in my range. I am not loyal to a certain line. I am looking for the best deal. 11
Rare twangster Posted December 30, 2022 #4 Share Posted December 30, 2022 My ESPN+ subscription is going up 34% I'm not renewing. If people are willing to pay the new rates companies will be willing to accept their money. If people don't buy at the new prices they'll either come down or the company will close their doors. 19

Sunshine3601 Posted December 30, 2022 #9 Share Posted December 30, 2022 Cruise fares go up and down on a regular basis. Lots of factors come into play. Continue to price check your cruise fare and air fare and maybe you will see a price drop (fingers and toes crossed). Besides the fact everything costs more nowadays! 8

MightyMike Posted December 30, 2022 #11 Share Posted December 30, 2022 A lot depends on how far in advance the reservations were made, how close to the sailing it is now, etc. Lots of variables. But you are correct in that prices have generally gone up. It can be fun to watch prices go up after locking in a reservation though! I reserved my next cruise over a year ago. The cruise price for the same room has since doubled. I reserved flights about 10 months in advance. The same flights have more than tripled in price.

Seriously $346 for a 3 night cruise with drink package and 2 device wifi. Sure I get 6 drinks on Royal and free wifi but the sme interior cabin is $800. Duh! Plus the casino on MSC is smoke free. So MSC gets my business. If Royal can get people to $800 for a 3 night cruise good for them. If MSC follows Royal and jacks up their rates then I will stay home. 11
Crazy planning mom Posted December 30, 2022 #13 Share Posted December 30, 2022 (edited) I am glad I have done a lot of bucket list cruises and trips the last few years. Now that I have done them and am now an empty nester, I think I will be looking more for budget cruises and local cruises. Husky1987 Posted December 30, 2022 #15 Share Posted December 30, 2022 Good Lord with the CC wanna-be lawyers...it's always "false advertising" or "bait and switch" or now "price gouging". No, it isn't. 9
firefly333 Posted December 30, 2022 #16 Share Posted December 30, 2022 I'll bet anyone the new 8 day harmony cruises in 2024 go up in price. Every unusual cruise, or cruise to coco cay goes up. The prices now might seem higher but they will for sure go higher. Never seen a coco cay cruise from Galveston that didnt keep going up. Book it if you want it now.

Booked MSC 7 days Bahamas for 855.00 balcony with 200 OBC. And the following week I’m on the wonder in a GTY balcony for close to more than 3x the price. heck I’m doing 15 days to Panama right before the MSC cruise and that was only 2400 with 50.00 excursion credit at each port. And my 250 OBC from my stocks. you just have to be a good shopper.
neverbeenhere Posted December 30, 2022 #18 Share Posted December 30, 2022 I don't worry about the price of cruise travel, because I always book on the least expensive day. 🙂 hmmmm... Supply and Demand???

Royal same week? $2,400 for same cabin type on a 20 year old ship. Royal has no problem throwing me under the bus when a full ship charter comes knocking on their door. I have no problem sailing another line when it is the obvious thing to do.

Rare orville99 Posted December 30, 2022 #21 Share Posted December 30, 2022 We always book as soon as the itineraries become available, and book cruises for as far out as the itineraries will allow (we are currently fully booked through April 2025). Other than a rare price drop on a specific cruise, every cruise we have booked in the last five years has gone up in price (some substantially) after we booked. It is simple supply and demand. If demand exceeds supply, prices rise, and with ships now sailing at 100%+ capacity, we don't expect prices to go anywhere but up for the foreseeable future. 4

I booked my solo Alaska cruise on princess a few months ago and got another smoking deal 2 weeks from departure. 1200 for a balcony on the new discovery. Was an amazing trip. you just have to keep searching You never know what’ll pop up.

They signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with the Galveston Warves for the potential development and operation of a terminal at piers 16-18. If it happens (which is a distinct possibilty) it's will be a huge game changer for cruises out of Galveston.
