Diane67B Posted September 2, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2023 I keep hearing about how the quality of food has gone down. I board the Oasis on September 17th. Is there anything you recommend? Or is there anything I should avoid? I know there are a lot of posts about dining but I am having a hard time finding specifics. I would really appreciate any advice!! Thanks!! Rare S.A.M.J.R. Posted September 2, 2023 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2023 Food is EXTREMELY subjective. A steak can be great for one person and terrible for another. It can be great one day and terrible the next for the same person. 5
Isaboo Posted September 2, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 2, 2023 We cruised in June and I don't think it was as bad as people are making it out to be. It was "fine", but not really memorable. The only thing I remember thinking I wanted more of was the crab cake appetizer. Other than that, there was nothing memorable. It's not what it once was but it's fine. 4

That's how I've felt about the MDR for very long time, long before any changes. That said, as mentioned above, food is very subjective.
shipgeeks Posted September 2, 2023 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2023 It might not be your thing, but we enjoyed all the Indian dishes we had, in MDR and WJ. 7 1
Sunshine3601 Posted September 2, 2023 #6 Share Posted September 2, 2023 We love their French onion soup, escargot, coconut shrimp appetizers and for lunches the Greek lamb pita or royal chicken sandwich with truffle fries.
yogimax Posted September 2, 2023 #7 Share Posted September 2, 2023 The short ribs in the MDR are excellent.
RyderJ201 Posted September 2, 2023 #8 Share Posted September 2, 2023 Title makes me laugh. Yummy. Nothing. Passable a few things. Nothing special and very bland is the key words that come to mind.

HicksRA Posted September 2, 2023 #11 Share Posted September 2, 2023 Yummy? Let’s see. Duck a l’orange? - nope, they don’t serve it anymore. Lamb Chops? - nope, they only serve skimpy lamb shanks now. Crab cakes? - crab meat is not rubbery is it? What’s in there? Caribbean Pork Chops - oh waiter, would you sharpen this steak knife? Mexican night - is this skirt steak? Did they skin the bull first? Could I get cheese cake for dessert? Oh, not tonight? I could go on….. 6

My DH usually likes their prime rib, I like their roasted turkey dinner and always ask for all white meat. Some of other favorites are the fish of the day and fish n chips. 3
Mikew0805 Posted September 2, 2023 #17 Share Posted September 2, 2023 Not much. I like the tagliatelle (when it is made right, prep varies by ship) roasted poblano pepper soup, and the tres leches cake. That is really all I like anymore in the MDR. 1
Rare OCSC Mike Posted September 2, 2023 #18 Share Posted September 2, 2023 Haven't had it in the MDR recently but I have always enjoyed Indian food on the ship wherever I find it (most recently CK and WJ on Wonder). 3 1
Ret MP Posted September 2, 2023 #19 Share Posted September 2, 2023 Buns/Rolls, the ones with the pumpkin seeds on them are beyond fantastic. They are also available in just about every other dining venue. 4

jbrinkm Posted September 2, 2023 #21 Share Posted September 2, 2023 The pecan crusted salmon was really good. Warm cookie was a great dessert. Kids enjoyed the tortellini with cream sauce. On the flip side, the apple cobbler on formal night was terrible - it tasted like they used rancid oil to make it. Try to find the apple blossom on the lunch menu instead - YUM!
Jt4428 Posted September 2, 2023 #22 Share Posted September 2, 2023 We asked for breadsticks and the head waiter said no special requests. So my daughter went to Windjammer each night we went to MDR and brought them in a napkin from the buffet. Was I embarrassed? Hell no. 7
Rare Tree_skier Posted September 2, 2023 #23 Share Posted September 2, 2023 Someone already mention the pecan crusted Salmon, which is very good. Also, I really like the beef tenderloin served of the formal nights. I'm not a lobster eater so this is always my go to on formal nights 2
drjohn4 Posted September 2, 2023 #24 Share Posted September 2, 2023 My favorites were the warm chocolate cake, French onion soup, escargots, lobster, Asian style pork tacos, garlic-herb buttered tiger shrimp, lasagna al Forno, and key lime pie. 2
Lorey2007 Posted September 2, 2023 #25 Share Posted September 2, 2023 We've been on 3 cruises since the start up. The roasted beef tenderloin is still excellent. We love the carrot cake it was always 3 layers it is now 2 layers but very good. I'm going to ask for one to go. The Asian pork tacos have been good. 2
