Rare travelberlin Posted October 5, 2023 #1 Share Posted October 5, 2023 (edited) Does Royal Caribbean uses Starlink on all ships? How was your Experience with the internet? Edited October 5, 2023 by travelberlin
Tatka Posted October 5, 2023 #2 Share Posted October 5, 2023 Yes, Starlink. My experience on Anthem in January was so-so (dropped connections), but since then Enchantment and on Liberty twice it was very good. There is only one tier. Surf and stream.
smokeybandit Posted October 5, 2023 #3 Share Posted October 5, 2023 There are many factors that go into internet quality on the ship, not just the presence of Starlink antennas.
Rare Tree_skier Posted October 5, 2023 #4 Share Posted October 5, 2023 What ship are you on? Knowing that might get recent cruisers to chime in. Navigator of the Seas and Oasis of the seas have very good over the last 12 months.

Jasukkie Posted October 5, 2023 #6 Share Posted October 5, 2023 Jewel in September, marginally better than pre-Starlink, but intermittent problems connecting in the cabin. Midship, lower deck. It's nowhere near as good as the wifi on Virgin Voyages for comparison. 1
njkruzer Posted October 6, 2023 #7 Share Posted October 6, 2023 We're on Radiance Not complaining. Ok in the cabin but on balcony when I tried it once. On an aft facing balcony on deck 9.
Jimbo Posted October 6, 2023 #8 Share Posted October 6, 2023 Last 2 weeks in September on Jewel were terrible. Had to keep cabin door propped open with trash can entire 14 days to get any kind of internet in cabin and we were mid ship on deck 8 near centrum. Some people on our deck were sitting in the hallway's on floor with their lap tops.

Pinballs83 Posted October 6, 2023 #10 Share Posted October 6, 2023 Oasis was rock solid all week anywhere I tried on the sihp. I got about 10 down 3 up constantly. Good enough to watch internet tv. I was at the MDR watching baseball on my phone one night when I was by myself =D. Walking down the hallway there was cisco boxes pretty close together.
klfrodo Posted October 6, 2023 #11 Share Posted October 6, 2023 Currently on Anthem sailing out of Southampton on our way to the Canaries. We are in a GS and there is a WiFi Access Point in our cabin. (Not sure if every cabin has an access point) Anyway, Speedtest had 189Mbps download speed and 25Mbps upload speed with a ping of 46ms and a jitter of 6ms. I have not experienced any loss of connectivity. 2

pstone1 Posted October 6, 2023 #13 Share Posted October 6, 2023 Jewel’s internet is terrible! I had no problems last year when we sailed on Jewel for 2+ months, but now I can’t seem to hold a signal. Mid ship Deck 9 balcony cabin, same as last year. Just SMH. 😡 We’ve heard many complaints regarding internet from folks around the ship. 1

When I was on in September, best connectivity was in the sports bar next to the casino.
RFerrington Posted October 6, 2023 #15 Share Posted October 6, 2023 We were on Grandeur twice in Sept. Western and Eastern. The internet was utterly useless both times. The worst I’ve ever experienced on any ship. The VOOM manager said that the ship’s infrastructure is incompatible with Starlink, whatever that means.

Markswansea Posted October 7, 2023 #17 Share Posted October 7, 2023 I am sailing on explorer in January as a cruise newbie . What’s the internet normally like on explorer?
GJustice Posted October 7, 2023 #18 Share Posted October 7, 2023 Secret on the older ships is to hang out in the public spaces which generally have good WiFi. In-cabin is poor since they've not updated the network gear in stateroom spaces yet. BEST internet is on the PCs in the RC Online/Library/Business Center as they're connected to the wired network, not WiFi.

In Solarium it was "iffy" and for me, the best was in the Safari Club. Forget about sea days when everyone is on their phones.

Rare RobInMN Posted October 7, 2023 #22 Share Posted October 7, 2023 We were on Jewel summer of 2022. It was not using Starlink yet, but that doesn't really matter when talking about the ship's infrastructure. We were in a JS, near the back of the ship (under WJ). We actually had pretty decent wifi coverage. I was able to use my Firestick to watch stuff. The only issue we had were limited bandwidth when we were quite a bit above the arctic circle (totally understandable), and then a couple sea days on the Iceland/Ireland leg (did a B2B), when there were a lot more younger families and teens, so a much higher load on the system. I had issues everywhere on those days, not just the room. Actually, the room might have been a little better.
Rare travelberlin Posted October 7, 2023 Author #23 Share Posted October 7, 2023 As a Diamond member I have heard that one has 1 day free internet as a benefit. If we buy the Voom package, will this one day free internet reduce the price of the package?

If you buy onboard then Yes, you can apply discount but will pay onboard price that varies per ship. Our repo sailing on Serenade it was $24.99 per day for 1 device.
