Rare Denise T Posted January 20 #26 Share Posted January 20 Good Saturday morning. Thanks for the daily and fleet reports. Meal of the day sounds yummy. @StLouisCruisers, thanks for the reminder about the penguins. I love penguins! I was handed some bad news yesterday that impacts by therapy practice. My landlord has decided not to renew my lease for my office with no explanation given. I suspect that because the building is at full capacity and I have been there for six years, he wants to significantly raise the rent. To say I am a bit ticked off would be an understatement. I am now considering my options of whether to go 100% virtual and maybe pursue part time office space. Reviewing all my options. Disappointed, nonetheless. The sun is out this morning. Got several inches of snow yesterday. I think I am over winter now. Thinking of all on the care list. Celebrating with all who are celebrating. Have a safe and healthy day. 27
Rare Haljo1935 Posted January 20 #27 Share Posted January 20 (edited) Acceptance is so important - it deserves to be recognized; I'll celebrate butternut crunch any day, but cheese I'm very picky about (I like harder cheeses, not soft gooey ones). Definitely pass on the meal, would try the drink, yes for the wine. I l🧡ve Bari - we were there Nov 5 2023 on the last sailing of Nieuw Statendam before she went into drydock. Today's days in history are important. Currently 21° headed to 39°, feels like 10° - it's cold! Rain supposed to start tomorrow night. Prayers and positive thoughts for all. I took sooooo many pictures in Bari, it's hard to select only a few. We had great weather 🕶️ and were not the only ship in port. The architecture was amazing. Zoom in on the clock at the top of this building. It seemed to be "Hang Out Your Laundry Day" - we saw so many lines of laundry drying.🧦🩲👖 I didn't go in this shop, so I don't know what it sold - I just liked the planter. Bari likes its flowers - There were planter boxes on a lot of the buildings. We had the best pizza in Bari that we had the entire trip, including Rome. Many of the streets had arches. Some led to little produce or pasta stands. We were told the curved white rock lower left at the corner by the green pot was to discourage people from peeing on the streets - a "splash gurard" of sorts. One of the cathedrals. There was a museum inside a church - these were on display. Many of the buildings are marked - this was near the church museum. This place is for sale if you want to own a piece of Bari. One of several statues we saw. We didn't have a long day, arriving at 7am w/All Aboard at 5:30, but we packed in as much as we could. These look like sunset pictures, but the sequencing of them would make them sunrise, hmm. 🤷♂️ Regardless, it was a beautiful view from our balcony on the NS. marshhawk Posted January 20 #28 Share Posted January 20 Good Saturday Morning Dailyites! Currently 15 degrees and sunny, The weather man said yesterday it would be sunny, but not to expect that the sun would give us any feeling of warmth. He was right. I am still trying to figure out where the drafts come from. We had a fire in the wood burning stove, and I guess one of us should have slept in the den, to add firewood, but it completely burned out. Not one spark in the ashes to get it going this morning. I got a call from my friend Theresa yesterday, DH took the call, she wanted us over for dinner. I said no, as I got up yesterday and started the pasta "potion" and I had run errands yesterday after I cooked, walked the dog, and was running off to work. I did not want to leave the house again. Until Monday when we have to take Tazi to the vets.( I will talk to the vet about Bubbles when we get there too) My arms were full of laundry and DH's doc, didnt want him to do anything for a week. (of course he brought in fire wood when I was on the phone with a patron and couldnt yell at him) I called her back but she did not answer. I hate turning down a free meal, especially when her hubby cooks, but I did not want to throw out what I had started yesterday. Everything was very close to the "expire" date. The Dakar race is over, guess I will have to make do with Nascar when it starts up. The other day when it was Gourmet coffee day, I had to pick up somethings at WM and saw that they had a creme broulee coffee. I bought some, and cant wait to try it! (my idea of gourmet) and I also had a heck of a time lifting the big box of cat litter into the cart. I need to work out more. The woman who scanned the litter asked me how I was going to get it into the car, I told her that I would lift and throw it into the back of the jeep. When I got home I found a "trolley" and pulled it into the house. But a good back massage is needed at this time. Have a great day everyone, stay safe, warm and feel hugged! I'm thinking that when I get off from work today, I might have to have a Lord of the Rings marathon... 25
RMLincoln Posted January 20 #29 Share Posted January 20 (edited) Cold here! 15! Grandkids are on their way to help us with some lighting work and move a bookcase. DH’s surgery folks called, we have a 12:30 checkin time Tuesday! Great to know it before we leave. I was concerned they call while we were driving and might miss the call. Sorry to hear Pat and Maurice both need aortic valves. But it is amazing what can be done. Like my DH’s drastic surgery coming up, I’m grateful there are ways to keep hope alive! Gotta get rolling here! Blessings already sent! Thanks all, enjoy the day wherever you are at! Oh, Moscato is one of the few wines I can still enjoy! (now allergic to most, not just reds anymore) I’m in! m— Edited January 20 by RMLincoln 36
summer slope Posted January 20 #30 Share Posted January 20 We drink Plumeria D'Asti Moscato. Tried it many years ago ona BHB and drink it ever since. It is a sweet wine, which we like, and is less than $10 a bottle. If you buy it by the case at our local ABC store you can save 10%. 23
marshhawk Posted January 20 #31 Share Posted January 20 Fre makes a Moscato. I saw it at the NA wine section at the farmers market. I thought it was Mexican, but I guess i was thinking Mojito. I might try a bottle of non alcoholic Moscato wine. @ger_77You are cooking today what I made yesterday. I forgot one item, but it was good, and will feed us for days. Guess I should freeze some. Off to get dressed, make breakfast and feed the birds and outdoor cats.

Mr. Boston Posted January 20 #35 Share Posted January 20 Good morning everyone from a very cold 14F Boston. Thanks for the daily updates. Three good reasons to celebrate today. The meal and drink suggestions sound very good. The quote is pretty funny. I haven’t been to today’s port. Prayers for everyone on our prayer list. Cheers to those of you celebrating happy events and go easy on the cheese!

Rare Nickelpenny Posted January 20 #43 Share Posted January 20 Well, good morning to all!! Thanks for the daily and fleet reports. I truly believe everyone should be accepted by all no matter what. Cheese - oh, cheese! LOVE it - by itself, with crackers, on food, anytime. But pass on the butternut crunch (yuck). Interesting quote, meal sounds good, no to the drink and wine (way too sweet), and never been to Bari. 2 good days in history; I love Hong Kong and Turkey! We will have a warm day today (projected up to high 70s) but a storm is on its way bringing cold temps and rain for tomorrow. May need to go out and get more fireplace logs. Had a good day yesterday with some of the kids remembering me and asked me how I liked my cruise to Hawaii. Received a confirmation call for a study I will be in for next Wed. I don't remember what this one is about but it is from the Psychology Department at the UofA (Memory Clinic). Off to the gym and then maybe to Lowe's. Should get some groceries but we will see. Thoughts for those on the care list and cheers to those celebrating. Have a great day everyone! 23

Seasick Sailor Posted January 20 #45 Share Posted January 20 I confess I changed the signature setting just to read Roy's signature. Then changed it back. Roy, you have so many great lifetime memories. I have enjoyed your blogs and pictures of ports and foods and sunrises and sunsets. Just please don't leave the Daily.. I might be able to go out with one less layer of clothing today! OMG - it’s colder here than the ‘frozen tundra’ 😂 1 hour ago, ger_77 said: @rafinmdI'm also sad to see your signature, but understand the rationale; it would be terrible to be disembarked at a foreign port all by yourself. I hope your wonderful cruise memories will bring you happiness. Speaking from experience, it was scary to be disembarked at a foreign port but I got through it and I got home. I’m still cruising. I had cruised for decades without incident so I pray that it was a one off. 🤞 Roy @rafinmd I understand your thoughtful decision but you could potentially do a cruise that is close to home - like Canada/New England. Or, potentially invite a friend or perhaps a nephew and share the cabin. You are paying double anyways. 3 hours ago, ottahand7 said: Good morning from Bassaterre, St. Kitts. Rare TiogaCruiser Posted January 20 #49 Share Posted January 20 Good morning all, Adding my thoughts to @rafinmd. Only you can make your decision. Thank you for sharing so many of your adventures with us- you are an inspiration. ( I wish I had not had to cancel South America in 2017- I was looking forward to meeting you.) On a separate note, to celebrate Penguin Day, I’m finishing off folding a bunch of origami penguins that I’m mailing (tarde) to my cousin. She boards today in Valpo for a cruise to Antarctica. It’s the only way I can “flock” her in celebration. Waiting for the “rain” to start here- weatherman say he’s got a quarter inch for us. Have a great day everyone!

I wait for your meal suggestions every day! Thanks for all of the caring and sharing here! We're off to DGD's basket ball game! 22
