Mr. Boston Posted May 14 #29 Share Posted May 14 Good morning everyone and thanks for the daily report. Welcome back from your amazing trip @richwmn. Three unique days for us to recognize although I thought the Chicken Dance died a well deserved death a long time ago! The meal and drink suggestions sound delicious and would probably even go well together. I like the quote and it can be applied to most organizations and teams. I have not been to today’s port. Thanks for sharing your amazing photos of it. Prayers for those on our prayer list, I hope that your surgery went well @Nickelpenny. Cheers to those who are celebrating happy events. Happy anniversary wishes to @summer slope! 23

Seasick Sailor Posted May 14 #31 Share Posted May 14 Good morning Dailyites A patchy foggy morning but we are due for some sunshine and 80 degrees. All went well for our dental cleaning and check-up. We were supposed to go for lunch after but storms were brewing and we wanted to get home. I can't recall the last time I made fried chicken, but MSH requested it, so... We were invited over to friends for happy hour. The storm had passed and it was a beautiful evening. Today Oliver goes to Woof Gang for his "S-paw" day. I'll run next door to the market and pick up shrimp and fresh pasta and salad fixings. Oh and a baguette. Lifting prayers up to those on our prayer lists, and will raise a glass or two for those celebrating. Sandi and Dennis, I'm wishing you a wonderful day at sea. I love seeing your pictures and commentary. Have a great day! 21
Rare ottahand7 Posted May 14 #32 Share Posted May 14 Good morning everyone! Thanks for the Daily Reports and maps Rich and Roy. Decency Day should be celebrated every day, there sure is lack of it these days. 1804 was an important date in US history when Jefferson commissioned Lewis and Clark expedition. If you haven't read David McCullough's book on it it is worth a read. Anyone who visits Astoria on a BHB there is the fort they stayed in near there. Thanks for today's photos of Kiel @StLouisCruisers. I will pass on today's meal but the margarita sounds wonderful and I learned about a new type of liquor. Today's SB also sounds good. Thanks for the cares and celebrations reports Vanessa. I am sad to read that you BFF has his surgery delayed three days. @marshhawkprayers for Chuck today as he has his vascular surgery. @RMLincoln I hope that your husband is healing properly from his eye surgery. Prayers for Tana and everyone one else in our group who are ailing of grieving. Prayers for all in war zones through no fault of their own, the people of Ukraine, the hostages and the innocents of Gaza. Today our driveway is to be sealed if the rain holds off. So far so good. Our HVAC company is supposed to come and inspect and clean the AC but it is cool so I doubt that will happen.. We are having pork ossa bucco for dinner. An easy dinner because I make it so often there is always frozen gravy left over so I have a great base to start with. Have a lovely Tuesday. Heartgrove Posted May 14 #33 Share Posted May 14 (edited) Thank you Rich, thank you Roy, thank you Debbie, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work. And thank you everyone for being here! We returned home late afternoon yesterday. It was tempting when we got in the car at the Port Parking Space parking facility with the Navigation telling us that we could be home by 10:30 pm Sunday. Of course that doesn't include pit stops, filling up, and eating. I was very impressed with Port Parking Space and will use them again at some point. Our cruise was so nice! It seems that MSC had special pricing for a few cruises as their private island is undergoing renovation to accommodate their newest megaship ship, MSC World America. So nice to be pampered for eight days! I was disappointed that I couldn't post photos this cruise. The food was excellent (I actually gained four pounds even with all my walking which is more than I gain on a HAL cruise!) and I was only disappointed with one meal. The chef and I disagreed on how Lasagna Bolangnese should be. Luckily the fallback is a filet mignon which was done to perfection. We elected to have our complimentary dinner in "Ocean Cay Seafood Restaurant" which was delicious. I managed to have fish everyday with at least one meal. The last day at sea we had a Seafood Buffet for lunch. Not official and not announced but they will be sailing from LA late 2025. According to the LA Port schedule for October 2025, the MSC Bellissima will be sailing weekly. We were in Kiel in 2017 on our Baltic Sea cruise aboard the Zuiderdam. It was our first port of call after leaving Copenhagen. That day we actually did our own excursion to Lubeck. Those that have been there will remember how to follow the Blue Line from the cruise terminal to the Kiel Hauptbahnhof. The other option would have been the 1-1/2 hour train ride to Hamburg. So glad that we did that cruise then as the highlight was two days in St Petersburg! Stay Safe, and prayers for those in need. - Jack HAL Zuiderdam in Kiel The Fantasy Line ferry to Oslo. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted May 14 #39 Share Posted May 14 Good morning from a beautiful sunny day in central Texas. It is 64F and heading to 83F this afternoon. Looking at the long range forecast, Thursday will be the only rainy day, and some days we'll reach the low 90s. This morning will be busy since I will be getting my mammogram followed by a bone density test. We haven't danced the chicken dance since older DD was in her high school band. The band director was from Lake Charles, LA, and wanted everyone to do the chicken dance at all the band parties. I agree that National Decency Day should be everyday. "Stars and Stripes Forever" is a great march, and now. An interesting quote from William James. It's a trifecta today as well pass on the meal, drink and wine. We have been to Hamburg and through the Kiel Canal twice on Prinsendam. However, we have never been to Kiel. A good day in history honoring the beginning of the Lewis and Clark expedition. @Nickelpenny Pennie, I hope you are doing well after your surgery yesterday. @smitty34877 Terry, I hope you have all the help you need to take care of Tana. @marshhawk Annie, best wishes for a successful surgery for your DH. @RMLincoln Maureen, I hope your procedure goes well and there aren't any surprises. @cat shepard Ann, stay safe with all the bad weather around you. @0106 Tina, thanks for the information about Decency Day. @dfish Debbie, I'm sorry the new community center isn't offering as many classes. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted May 14 #40 Share Posted May 14 The first time we went through the Kiel Canal on Prinsendam was June 9, 2011, after an overnight in Hamburg. On August 2, 2016, again on the Prinsendam, we left the Baltic and headed to Hamburg through the Kiel Canal. The pictures are a complication from both cruises. Because the Kiel Canal cuts through a varied landscape in Germany, I have enjoyed both passages through the canal. These pictures are from 2011 as we entered the first lock, and the lock looking behind the ship. I believe this is the administrative building for the lock. A town along the canal On our first time through the canal we passed this barge with the bow of a ship being built somewhere. Further along, we passed a ship builder who looked to be building mega yachts. Besides several bridges crossing the canal there are two types of ferries. Fist a traditional ferry loading cars. Then the ferry where someone was thinking outside the box. It was a good thing the Prinsendam's mast could be laid down, or she would not have fit under the low bridges. Some locals enjoying the waters of the canal. Some of the lovely countryside along the canal. In 2011, Prinsendam had a deck barbecue featuring sausages of all types. There was also a local band to entertain us. Lenda 21
Rare rafinmd Posted May 14 #41 Share Posted May 14 Thank you Rich, Jacqui, Vanessa, Ann, Debbie, and Dixie. .I’ll pass on the Chicken Dance but celebrate Decency and Souza.. I like the James quote. I passed through the Kiel Canal in 2015 and actually spent a couple of days in Kiel after disembarking Nieuw Statendam in Amsterdam in 2019. A great day nor Northwest expansion... I’ll pass on the meal. My alternative is Chilled Pear, Cucumber, and Melon Gazpacho, Prime Rib of Beef au Jus, and Key Lime Pie, my embarkation day dinneron MS Veendam May 14, 2017. I leave soon for the doctor’s office for a pneumonia shot. Roy
RMLincoln Posted May 14 #42 Share Posted May 14 Happy Anniversary Dixie and George! impressive! 🥂 Praying for Amazing Pennie and Chuck! So encouraging to see the progress in Baltimore Harbor, thank you Tina. Blessings for all in need for healing, comfort or hope… for our country, your country and protection for all caught in war regions. We are keeping up our regime for DH’s eye care, trying to stay hopeful. Need to finally get some laundry tackled today, that’ll be enough for me. Quartzsite Cruiser Posted May 14 #43 Share Posted May 14 Both our Kiel Canal transits and visits were on Prinsendam. The first time in 2011, we stopped in Hamburg first followed by the canal transit. In 2017, we transited the canal followed by Hamburg, where we overnighted both times. This time, it will be pictures from our two visits to Hamburg. In 2011, we had good weather as we sailed the Elbe River. We arrived in Hamburg late that afternoon. We walked over to the miniature train museum, which is huge. There are many train displays set in various cities and regions of the world. At different times, the displays are in daytime hours and then nighttime hours. First is a picture of the control room, and the second is just one of the displays. This is a canal we crossed going to the museum. The second day we took the Ho-Ho and also walked around some. This is the city hall, the interior and the central courtyard. The Saint Pauli district where The Beatles performed early in their career. The train station where we switched Ho-Ho buses. Some different views of town as we walked around. An interesting building on the waterfront Lenda 20

ger_77 Posted May 14 #45 Share Posted May 14 Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily! Last time we were in Calgary, our youngest DGS had learned (at his daycare) how to do the chicken dance, so of course we had to let him teach us. I believe every day should be Decency day, and the Stars and Stripes Forever is a great march. @summer slopewishing you and DH a very Happy Anniversary; we are also among the couples who "they" said it wouldn't last! Let the love and laughter continue, you two! @marshhawksending prayers for Chuck and his surgical team as he has his leg surgery today. Extra for you as his support staff. @NickelpennyI hope your surgery went well yesterday. A quick check in this morning, as we have to be at the PCP's office in 3/4 of an hour for DH's pre-op medical for next week's surgery. After the appointment, we'll head over to WalMart to pick up some sustenance for Sochi and likely have lunch before coming home. I'd like to try the drink (will copy out the recipe for our taste-testing), will pass on the wine, but will also take a good look at the menu suggestion. We still have lots of lasagna left from last night so we'll be enjoying leftovers at the kitchen table tonight. And wine. Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, in medical issues, and those in wars and devastating storms and fires. Cheers to all with celebrations. Smooth Sailing! ☺️☺️☺️ Gerry 25

Rare Haljo1935 Posted May 14 #50 Share Posted May 14 Definitely celebrate Decency and Stars & Stripes Forever Day, but agree we left the chicken dance behind us for good reason 🫣 but I would not begrudge anyone their day if that's the one they choose 😉 Pass on the meal (asparagus & shrimp), the drink and wine sound good, have not been to the port- the pictures are great @StLouisCruisers @Quartzsite Cruiser. Prayers @marshhawk for DH procedure today. Stars 🌟🏒 managed their win but the Mavericks🏀 did not, so we're celebrating and licking our wounds. Both are still alive in their runs for their respective titles, so more post-season sports to watch. I know you're watching them both @BetsyS.👀 Currently 73° headed to sunny 86° today w/rain expected Thursday. Prayers 🙏 and positive thoughts for all.
