The Fleet Report and Daily for Thursday October 3rd, 2024

Recommended Posts

Good morning. I have cruised the St Lawrence three times but never took a picture.
Congrats to @dfish Debbie’s family on the new baby. Ten pounds! Thank you for the carrot soup recipes also.

My DB is returning this weekend to help us here. I think he is a little exhausted from babysitting his toddler granddaughter. We had a good laugh last night about the things we never expected to be doing in retirement.

The leaves remain mostly on the trees here with no color changes this early. It is very pretty and green after the rain last week. It will be November before the leaves fall.

Yesterday the entire elementary school was out on our main drag due to a bomb threat. Kids on our street who know our doggies were calling hello to us when we walked nearby. I guess I am not so anonymous in the big city.

Good morning, it's been a busy week here.  This afternoon might be quiet!  We have a busy weekend coming up also, lots of activities with our DGD's.  I was gone all day yesterday with our church quilting ladies, we had a nice day traveling to different quilt shops.  The first stop was about 1.5 hours away, stopped at 4 different shops with lunch in the middle.  Lots of ladies bought lots of pretty fabric.  Some had a mission and some just found things they liked.  I did buy 1 kit to make a lap quilt.  I also got some ideas for a quilt for DGS and his new Fiance!  And, our Brewers won last night to stay alive in October Baseball!

I didn't get to The Daily yesterday, but I did see that Roy is back in rehab....good thoughts for him.

Prayers for all who need them, and cheers for those celebrating and cruising!  Karen

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I don't remember ever having a smoothie, we look at our leaves daily as they change and fall on our lawn.  I won't honour the mean girls; we had a few in my high school and they were just awful.  I think today's quote is yesterday's quote, but it's still a good one.

Well it did go to -1 overnight and we've got our first "wind chill" report for a temp of -5(23) for the season.  We brought all the big plants onto the deck, closed the windows and closed the heavy curtains to help keep them from freezing - as I look out there this morning, they look pretty good.  I have to go out this morning and spray them all with a soap/water solution to kill off any little buggies that might have taken refuge in them over the summer so we don't bring them into the house next week.

@dfishcongratulations on the addition of your new family member Abraham; it's always wonderful having a new baby to enjoy.  10 pounds?  Yikes!!!

@marshhawkgood luck to you with your medical appointment - your doctor needs to know the nurse isn't doing his/her job.

Yesterday we went to a fall supper about an hour out of the city and it was just lovely - all home cooking and no clean up!  They had a 50/50 draw; we didn't win.  They had a door prize draw; we didn't win.  But I did run into a couple of colleagues I haven't seen in about 20 years, so it was a a win after all.  Not much on the agenda today, picking up some of the leaves in the back yard and that's about all.

I'm giving a pass on the drink, the wine, and not sure about carrot soup.  I'd try it if someone made it for me, but that's about all.  Because we'd purchased 3 tickets for last night's dinner and our friend Ollie didn't feel up to joining us, they insisted we take another meal (read: huge meal) home with us, so we've got a turkey dinner with all the trimmings that DH and I will share at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, especially those whose lives have been impacted by Helene.  And for the innocents in the wars in Ukraine, Israel, Palestine, and Lebanon.  Cheers to all with celebrations today.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Flaming Dr. Pepper cocktail:

A Flaming Doctor Pepper is a flaming cocktail with taste similar to the soft drink Dr Pepper, despite Dr Pepper not being one of its ingredients. Dave Brinks of the Gold Mine Saloon lays claim to inventing the drink.
Ingredients:
1 part High-proof liquor,
16 oz (~13 parts) Beer,
3 parts Amaretto
Preparation:
Layer the two spirits in the shot glass, with the high-proof liquor on top. Light the shot and allow it to burn; then extinguish it by dropping it into the beer glass. Drink immediately.

Now that’s my kind of drink. Three times a day; 10, 2 & 4!

Good afternoon.

I had the flu jab in my right arm and the COVID vaccine in my left arm.

Afterwards we got ham and cheese toasties and coffee and ate them looking out to sea.

I hope everyone is enjoying today and prayers 🙏 for those who are unwell.

Thank you Sandi, thank you Debbie, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work.  And thank you everyone for being here!

Prayers for those affected by Hurricane Helene and the families of the more than180 that lost their lives!

I drove DSIL to her Ortho appointment yesterday. She has now graduated from a boot to a lace up foot brace and can start putting weight on her ankle. The doctor was very pleased with how she has healed.

Looking at the weather forecast for our upcoming cruise next week shows rain for the region.

Stay Safe, and prayers for those in need.

Good morning from a sunny and warm central Texas.  It is 67F and already feels like 69F.  The weather app and the neighbor's flag agree that the wind is calm.  The humidity is 81% with a dew point of 63F.  Our predicted high is 93F and the wind will pickup to about 6mph this afternoon.  The only thing on the agenda is DH's PT.

Someone else can enjoy my smoothie.  We have a few trees in this area who's leaves change color, but right now all the leaves on the neighbor's oak tree are still green and on the tree.  I hope they stay there until after we head to Quartzsite later this month.  I do not appreciate mean girls.

The C. S. Lewis quote is still good the second day.

As much as I like carrots both raw and roasted, I am not a fan of carrot soup.  We'll pass on the drink even though we like Dr. Pepper Zero or Diet Dr. Pepper.  The wine would be worth a try if it is not too dry or two sweet.

The 1888 rugby game between the New Zealand Natives and the English team would have been interesting to watch.

The 1990 reunification of Germany on October 3 was a big event in their history.

@marshhawk  Annie, I hope there are no surprises at your doctor's appointment, and that she is understanding about why you did not get those two tests.

@cat shepard  Ann, thanks for the mention of DD.

@grapau27  Graham, I hope you don't have a bad reaction to the two jabs today.

@Heartgrove  Jack, it was good to read that DSIL's surgeon was pleased with her progress, and that she has graduated to a foot brace.

@dfish  Debbie, congratulations on the arrival of Abraham Thomas.  At almost 10 pounds, he's a big boy.  Looking forward to seeing pictures.

@JazzyV  Vanessa, I hope you are enjoying your cruise, and that the compression garment will behave.

We have taken two New England/Canada cruises where we did b2bs.  I did not have many pictures as we sailed the St. Lawrence River, but in 2013 when we rented a car, we took a ferry across the river from Quebec City.

These first pictures were taken September 13, 2004, on the return leg to NYC as the old Regal Princess sailed from Quebec City.  The pictures do not do the fall colors justice.

On 2013, on b2b2b2bs Veendam had a turnaround day in Quebec, and we were there for three days.  One day, we took the bridge across the St, Lawrence River, and the ferry back to Quebec City.  These pictures were taken on September 13, 2013, from the ferry.

Good morning everyone. Slept like a baby until 8:30! We have cruised down or up the Saint Lawrence at least eight times, mainly on repositioning cruises. We will do it again in October 25 from Montreal to Miami and beyond into the Caribbean. Needless to say we enjoy that itinerary. Many of those cruises were on our beloved Maasdam.
Sue has a doctor’s appointment this morning for a pre op with our family physician. Her knee replacement will be later in the month. Monday I’ll finally get my dermatology surgery. October is going to be a very busy month.

Vanessa I feel your excitement on your much needed upcoming cruise. I hope it exceeds your expectations.

@RedneckBob So good to have you posting again.

We are keeping watch on the Gulf and praying that they won’t develop.

Thank you so much for the featured post and all of you who contribute to our Daily read.

Have a great day. Bruce

Good morning and Happy Thursday. Our streak of 100 degrees or over continues. Yesterday was 104 and today about the same. It doesn’t look like it will get cooler for another week.

Since I’m not a big fan of soup in general I’ll pass on the meal. Although I do agree Debbie @dfish, the third one looks good. I like garbanzo beans and have roasted them which makes them crispy and crunchy, yum. You can use any seasoning you prefer.  Also, congratulations on the new family member Abraham Thomas!  Big boy!

@ottahand7, Craig was at Costco yesterday and many shoppers were loading their carts with TP. The brand we prefer was out but he said the Kirkland was in stock. It’s on DM’s list this week so we are going to try Target this morning. I hope John is able to find some.

I have sailed the St Lawrence 4 or 5 times and I’ll look for a few pictures. I still don’t know how to resize them so they don’t come out black. So I have to email them to myself to post.

Have a good day everyone!

Good morning. Another sunny and dry day for us today. And another "exciting" day of trying to get the back bedroom sorted and the house "dejunked". Weather here is cool in the morning (it was 45F when dogs and I walked) but highs during the day are at or near record of low 80's. Things may change a bit next week. The leaves are turning and are absolutely lovely this year. And the bears are busy bulking up. My early morning and late evening dog walks are done very carefully.

My step-sister checked in from near Asheville. They were very lucky and their house was not damaged and they finally have cell service. What a terrible mess there and in the surrounding areas and states.

Otherwise nothing new. I am sending my best wishes for a good day to all. Hope doctor's appointments and medical issues go well. And we all use bubble wrap as needed.

Good morning,

A quick check-in as I have to be on the road in 45 minutes and I still need to get presentable and pack up the food items. DM wants cranberry-walnut bread, mini cinnamon rolls, cinnamon cookies (all from Costco) and I got one of the cinnamon coffee cakes so will take her a few slices of that along with some small microwavable pancakes and I'll stop for ice cream on my way up. My GF wants 4 lbs of butter and my god-son wants his Cookie Crisp cereal. It will be close to a 12-hour day for me but that's fine.

Enjoy your Thursday!

Good morning all!

We have a foggy morning, only 39F but it's supposed to be sunny and mid 60's today.  I plan to do some yardwork/gardening.

I like smoothies but don't think of having them usually.  The leaves are just starting to turn here, but we saw some gorgeous colors when we were in Grand Tetons last week.  Very bright yellows and so, so many.  I won't celebrate mean girls and give them more attention, the quote is yesterday's quote but I still like it.  Will pass on the meal just because neither of us are big fans of soup in general, pass on the drink too, but would like the wine if it isn't sweet.  We have sailed the Saint Lawrence at least 5 times but no photos that I can find.

My eyes were still dilated when I went to bed last night -- so glad it's needed only once/year!

Debbie @dfish I missed your news yesterday and just seeing it now.  Congratulations on the new baby!  How is this baby related to you?  Since our son (first-born) weighed the same, I can commiserate with the Mother!  He never fit into newborn sizes, I remember cutting off the feet of one outfit I loved so he could wear it. LOL

Welcome to the Daily @Obsessed!

This toilet paper thing reminds me of Covid!  Remember the runs on TP then?  At least, if you stock up, it won't go bad...

I think we have a 90% chance of rain today.  Or maybe it's tomorrow.  But the reservoir is down to 74%, so we really need it.

Pat is going to go with me to the hospital today, he can't drive yet, but will wait in the car while I am irradiated and then we'll go for a bang-up breakfast at Timmie's.  I'm kind of annoyed, the oncologist told me they're going to irradiate the whole thing, not just that little bit of me that she said originally.   Oh, well, I guess they know what they're doing.  Leanne is starting radiation today, too, but at a different time, so we are not car-pooling...  Her mother will take her.  She  starts chemo today, too.  I think she said she will have 4 1/2 weeks of radiation, with a chemo treatment once a week for that time.  It's going to be so hard on her.

Thinking of you all today!  Thanks for the news.

On the St. Lawrence

I looked up into the sky this morning and wondered what that bright spot was -- it's the SUN, finally!! So, I guess the lawn mowing guy will show up sometime today or tomorrow - the grass is pretty tall after two weeks of rain!

I love leaves, until they turn brown & drop. That's when afore-mentioned lawn guy takes care of them for me. It used to be fun to rake leaves, but no more!

Took a quick jaunt this morning to AAA to pick up my euros order -- my to-do list is getting shorter, but still haven't done any packing yet. A lot of planning, though. Looking forward to meeting some of the Dailyites on board!

There's a bridge fellowship at church this afternoon that I plan to attend - I need the practice so I can play on the Rotterdam!

I thought I was going to go back to Senior Fit this morning, but I was so sore from yesterday's PT that I skipped. Because I only have 3 more PT sessions, they're really making me work!

As always, prayers for all that need them and cheers for all who are celebrating!

Good morning and thanks all!  Giggling about the toilet paper as it’s all procured in North America and not affected by the dock strike.

@dfish that soup looks great!

@marshhawk glad you’re going for a check up.  Good to get caught up on all your tests.  Don’t forget to look after you!

@luvteachingi love that cranberry walnut bread!  I may have to drive to Montana!  We always take tea to my American auntie!

@Vict0riannhope the radiation goes well.   The fatigue can be sneaky so take care of yourself.

We had our first freezing night!  Brr,  hope the pepper survives indoors.

Lets just say, terrible nurse, who was American but couldnt be understood.  He was new and in training, wish they trained him in a medical college.  The guy who took my blood, was fantastic, and my physical seemed a waste of time, the training nurse came back and asked all the questions, and the doc came in, asked me about any pain, mental problems, etc, I just dont think I had much of a physical, at least this time she looked in my ears, opened my mouth wide and said " AH" and listened to my heart.  I had more thorough exams when we played doctor when I was 6.

Oh well, I guess that's why I have a lung doctor, a heart doctor, and the emergency room. ??

My blood pressure was not high, it was when I got there, but after two hours, it had gone done.

Off to work.  @Obsessed Welcome!  Loved the picture.

In Sept/Oct 2019 we did a repositioning cruise from Quebec to Ft Lauderdale. This is one of my favorite cruise trips, have sailed it 3 times already and hopefully will be able to again.

The sail along the St Lawrence was enjoyable as we saw a lot of marine life on this trip.

Of course docking at Prince Edward Island for the superb mussels was a highlight!
