"Modern Luxury" - - everyone has their own tastes, likes, dislikes.

I will cruise X again. Overall, decent value. BUT - think X has smartly figured out that it's customers aren't much different than the pax on NCL or Princess. Sure they'll whine a bit but overall, get them some booze and some Wi-Fi, and they will be content with the cattle-factor, and content with diminishing services and what's more, they'll defend the cruise line. Back in 2009 they'd say "oh there's a recession! X has to cutback" yet now with low fuel costs and record prices - - many of the same complaints are brought up - and the same pax defend X, or whatever cruiseline it is.

Which is why "modern luxury" means the following:

*Smaller portions of food, but new charges.

*Nicer sleeker décor

*Less staff, meaning more rushed service and less attention to details.

Sorta like movies under the stars. Yeah, real luxurious.

Overall I'm impressed by the cruiselines. We in the business world keep being told that customers are more discerning than ever yet these cruiselines, keep shoving the cattle around, taking a bit more from them - and the cattle keep sailing.

Give it 10 years.

Service levels will decline even more - NO different than the airlines. The funniest part will be when Celebrity charges for luggage. If they do that, I'll laugh so hard i'll have to book a cruise with them just to reward them.

Oh come on, first of all, could you really eat more food? I mean, could you really starve on a cruise ship? And don't you sail in the Penthouse, so don't pay for specialty dining anyway?

And due to said cabin choice, do you really experience the cattle factor?

You can easily avoid it, I'd recommend one of these for you:

Get rid of the photo gallery and stick a "Laundry Bar" there!

When I first quickly looked at this picture, for some reason my eye saw a Ski-ball game with the washer as target. This could work -- get the kid's clubs down there and make loading the laundry into a game! :D

But then they give up the chiropractor revenue

I'm serious....

Money maker, social, modern luxury machines and pay-4-folding available. :p

My wife would have a few cocktails there for sure... heck I would!

Throw in a garment steamer and maybe a drag queen show and I'd pay a cover charge.

Jediknight- I totaly agree! " Modern Luxury" - one has to take it the way it is- a advertising campain- does one believe every add in newspapers or whereever???

Gettings rid of the four great Spec. Restaurants- Modern Luxury. Anyway I am sure they keep the memorabilia - maybe they will kind of " store " in the Casino Enterance and will be placed in the Edge - Class of ships! That would make sense!

Their idea of movie´s under the stars looks nice- I can´t wait to read what they charge- if they do- wouldn´t it be a nice surprise if did wouldn´t charge?? One can dream- can´t one!

LOL

I'm not kidding. Being social is a weird world....

I work at a College and this week a co-worker live streamed a cooking thingy.

Carnival is doing eco stuff.

The world goes on no matter how "we" go.

Host Jazzbeau and Andy

I am about to test retirement (again) and as a younger guy (56 thinks he's 26 until the the mirror hits)who includes a bit of just average on every category wants to ask you both if you think this is a good idea, Posting every few days over two months on mine and my wife's travels on the Summit

Round and round and round and round and round... you get the idea

Andy's the Host here, I'm "just plain Jazz." But since you asked, I always have an opinion. ;) First, yes, I think retirement is a great idea [if that was the question]. Second, I would welcome such a thing on the River Cruising forum [where I am the Host] except that nobody does b2b2b2b2b2b2b2b river cruises!

Jediknight, you are spot on in your summary of X and the cruise lines. I support your assessment.

It is my observation that Cruise and airline passengers are generally behaving as a herd of lemmings happily accepting diminished product offerings at higher prices beyond the rate of inflation provided by companies displaying more contempt for the travel consumer than ever before. As obedient consumers they come back for more and defend their "supplier".

Consumers are providing evidence they are more choosy about food quality, retail offerings, restaurants and medical care options but in the world of travel not so.

Travel companies are to be commended for their business savy these days, they are blessed with an uncritical mass of consumers who lap up the latest gimmick. From the contrarion perspective, like banks, best to own the shares but not use company products.

Been cruising since 1989 and it ended in 2014. Cruising was trending to the superficial with obvious erosion in the quality of product.

Not every cruiser is willing to accept today's X product or put up with the travel industry product and cost. My household has ended all travel. If the parameters change, maybe in the future.

For those who continue to travel on X and elsewhere, safe journeys.

Hoping your travel is engaging and rewarding.

@aboatnerd

That's what my mama called "cutting off your nose to spite your face".

I'm not crazy about flying, but if I want to go to Europe, well....

As for cruises, I'm not too picky, as long as the ship shelters and feeds me while taking me to amazing places.

As for the changes I hear about, that white glove, formal type cruising never held any appeal for me. I'm just a country girl trying to broaden her horizons.

It's all good.

Second that !

Jedi I don't believe you are "picking on" Celebrity but pointing out general industry trends .

At the risk of offending, we prefer the company of the average Celebrity cruiser. There are nice interesting people everywhere but cruises are self-selecting . Thus Celebrity (and Princess) have an advantage for us . These line almost get an unearned advantage because of this . As an example, we have always enjoyed Carnival but in doing a mental recap , there are always a couple of OMG moments . Not a huge thing but one reason we will pay a reasonable premium for one cruise line over another . In other words - Celebrity - You Are Lucky to Have Nice Passengers ! :D

I find it kind of amusing that folks who say they have stopped cruising due to all the awful changes cruiselines have made in recent years continue to read (and post on!) these boards. :)

Perhaps they have not really stopped cruising or flying on planes which by the way cost less than they did 35 years ago.

They are all talk and no action. Just something else to spend time with their favorite hobby - complaining.

Reminds me of having to do my laundry at a dump of a laundromat when I was in college. No thank-you.

RU Kidding me? When I was in college, that was a great place to pick up chicks. ;) That's why my wife does the laundry now. How times change.
