gatur123fl Posted February 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 19, 2017 I was thinking about getting one of those locks with a key or combination to go on my suitcase. Does anyone else do that? I don't do alot of traveling, LOL.. Thanks
4xcruisers Posted February 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Yes we always lock. Invest in tsa locks if you fly. TSA will remove cable ties or other locks on luggage and not replace. TSA locks do get replaced at least part of the time. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
Snit13 Posted February 19, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Always lock luggage using TSA locks. Friend had new bathing suit removed from unlocked pocket of her luggage when we sailed Jewel. Was there when we left with porter but not there when luggage arrived at her suite.
Fouremco Posted February 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We always lock our bags, using a TSA lock. While a zippered bag can be opened even when locked, locking it deters opportunists. An experienced burglar could probably find a way to enter my house when it's all locked up, but I still lock the doors to avoid the door rattlers hoping for a quick score. Same principle. davekathy Posted February 19, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We also lock our luggage using TSA locks. Personal choice.
cruiseguy1016 Posted February 19, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We always lock ours using TSA locks. We have had TSA unlock our luggage and then not lock it back up but at least we made an effort to keep it secure. Whether you do or don't lock your luggage, theft is always possible but a lock will deter most people. If someone is looking to steal, there will be plenty of other luggage that is not locked. traveler279 Posted February 19, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We lock with TSA locks but there's nothing of value in there. All the good stuff is in our carry-on. If someone wants to take our laundry, have at it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
critterchick Posted February 19, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We lock our luggage if we check a bag on the plane. We usually only bring 22" max suitcases so carry them onboard the ships ourselves.
Rare Lionesss Posted February 19, 2017 #9 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We will last years cruise use the TSA locks. Some where from the time our luggage was put outside our cabin and arrival home (Used Valet) my daughters MK sandels were stolen from an un locked suitcase. Surprised they only took those, and left the Purses and other wristlets behind. We learned our lesson. TSA locks from now on. Safe travels. Of course I am sure more thieves have the keys than TSA employees. Safe travels.

edspec Posted February 19, 2017 #11 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Nope, never lock our luggage. I don't have any jewelry, and our low priced electronics and prescriptions are in our carry-ons. I worry more about being nickle and dimed on a vacation, or falling prey to upsells.
Rare A&L_Ont Posted February 19, 2017 #12 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We use TSA locks on our bags for flights, ships and travel. On our last three flights one was opened, inspected and relocked by TSA. They left an explanation note in the bag that it had been opened, inspected and if we had a concern there was a number listed that we could call. It was also date stamped and possibly initiated by the agent that did it.
JAMESCC Posted February 19, 2017 #13 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We never locked our luggage, but now you've made me think we probably should. Definitely getting locks for our next cruise.
FunCruiser56 Posted February 19, 2017 #14 Share Posted February 19, 2017 ALWAYS LOCK! There are plenty of folks who don't lock and its easier to get in their bags for a thief than for them to mess with the lock. You can buy them for reasonable prices on amazon. Woodmnky Posted February 19, 2017 #15 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We lock with TSA locks but there's nothing of value in there. All the good stuff is in our carry-on. If someone wants to take our laundry, have at it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk This is us. I'm not particularly worried about theft, but I do use the locks mainly to help keep our zippers closed.
tserface Posted February 19, 2017 #16 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We put on zip ties that can be cut off with a nail clipper I keep in my pocket. It deters, but is easy for TSA to remove if they need to. Tom Sent from my iPad using Forums
sddsddean Posted February 19, 2017 #17 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We lock ours with the little RCI combination locks that you used to win at trivia etc (whatever happened to them?!). Flying home from FLL in 2015 we arrived at LHR to find the lock replaced by a cable tie (which was OK) and the old (now cut) lock inside with a little note from the TSA...so at least they tried to re-secure the bag. BTW, we think the bags of dirty laundry fooled them! Simon
DrD Posted February 19, 2017 #18 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Well, I agree it's a good idea, but just to have another datum, I've never locked my bags in 25 years of travel, average 2 trips per year, and never had anything stolen. It may help that I never have anything too valuable, my clothes are nothing special and anything remotely valuable is in my carry on. Again, I'm not suggesting people don't lock, I probably should also but it's just not something I've ever worried about. Now let's not talk about lost/misdirected luggage! I have not been as lucky in that area.
OCruisers Posted February 19, 2017 #19 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We've never locked ours. Things of great value to us go in our carryons.
Baseball fan Posted February 19, 2017 #20 Share Posted February 19, 2017 I use TSA approved locks. I know it won't keep criminals out but any deterrent that will slow them down may encourage them to move on. Plus I don't keep any valuables in my luggage. CGoguen Posted February 19, 2017 #21 Share Posted February 19, 2017 I don't bother. A real thief would just steal the whole bag and be gone in a minute than risk somebody seeing them rooting through bags looking for valuables. A lock just makes it look like you are hiding valuables. I've takes hundreds of flights and have never had anything go missing. I keep valuable stuff in my carry on anyway. A few times I've has TSA search and leave a note. SbbquilterUT Posted February 19, 2017 #22 Share Posted February 19, 2017 Traveled weekly for ten years and have never locked my luggage. Also don't put anything of real value in a checked bag. These days travel with carry on only so not an issue.

mad-dog74 Posted February 19, 2017 #24 Share Posted February 19, 2017 We always use locks... sometimes people don't seal... they just are a nuisance. We once saw some teenagers on the last night of a cruise... very late... unzip and dump someones suitcase just to be purely mean! I ran after them which I am sure scared them, and reported it to security.
tugboat Posted February 20, 2017 #25 Share Posted February 20, 2017 with new zippers today it only takes a ball point pen to open and the zipper to close it back up you never will know. Look it up on utube
