Buffet then going to show - dress code

Has anyone had an experience of what is, or is not, allowed as far as dress code for the shows if you didn't go to dinner and just had a casual buffet dinner rather than going to MDR? We don't have to go change to go to a show do we?

I'm assuming you are talking about wearing shorts and t-shirts to the buffet? There used to be a time where these were not allowed into the theater in the evening, but that has changed. You would not be required to change clothes to go to the theater.

Perfect thanks. I couldn't imagine that we would have to change but I wanted to find out if anyone had an issue. We plan on doing buffet a couple nights and like to go the show but didn't want to be turned away.

'And guests are asked to follow the Smart Casual or Evening Chic dress code in the Celebrity Theater for all evening performances.'

Tiny excerpt from website dress code.

Although I doubt I'd fool with dressing up after dinner.

The evening dress code says it applies to the theater. Whether or not you have an employee who will enforce it will vary. So no one can definitively say it will not be enforced.

Can't say it would or would not be enforced, but literally have seen hundreds and hundreds of pax dressed that way in the theater. I really think it would be supreme stupidity to try to enforce something that is never actually in force.

And as nuts it is to worry about what someone wears in the MDR, it goes beyond the pale to worry about what they are wearing in a dark theater.

Not many wear shorts to the theater dockers/ khakis could work...but doubt OP will get thrown out....

Remember the short term slogan they tried awhile ago? X THE RULES!

It failed back then but seems to fit the New Celebrity...

Seen many in the theater wearing very casual clothing.

It was suggested to wear the code of the day throughout the evening. Problem is the code is different for the buffet so those people would be allowed to be dressed according to that code. No one ever asks when you walk in where you dined.

I always dress down after dinner to be more comfortable during the evening.

The dumbest thing was when they had something scheduled on the lawn during formal night such as the evening concert on the lawn.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌞

If you are wearing a bathing suit & tank top to the theater for the sake of a modicum of dress, please don't! At least wear decent shorts & a collared shirt. If you want to go looking sloppy, feel free, but also know you'll get some nasty looks.

I don't appreciate the nasty response. My husband, son and I are just planning to have dinner a couple nights at the buffet then maybe heading to go to the show. I am always shocked how people respond to the easiest question with snarky comments.

Wow that's a bit of a nasty response, I am sure the OP has much more common sense than your "modicum" of common sense!

To the OP I see nothing wrong with wearing shorts and a tshirt to a theatre, I will no doubt change my dress after dinner when we do the MDR to something more comfortable.

Ahhh KeithM who is only happy if everyone dresses the way he thinks they should. Dress for comfort (which I have faith 99% will do appropriately) and ignore the self appointed dress police. Thankfully I have better things to do when I travel.

It's really very simple. This is what Celebrity says on the subject.

'And guests are asked to follow the Smart Casual or Evening Chic dress code in the Celebrity Theater for all evening performances.'

If I wasn't going to follow this I certainly wouldn't be offended by whatever may happen. It's your choice.

I didn't think such dress was allowed in the buffet.

I always get "comfortable" after dinner. Shorts and a polo is my attire after dinner every night. The casino, night club, and the rest of the ship are usually come as you are after dinner. On over 20 cruises, I have never ever been asked to change my clothes after dinner. Hope this clarifies it. Please people, life is too short, be nice to each other.

Unfortunately this is one of those things where reality sets in. The fault for this lies with Celebrity and no one else. If they are going to have a rule then they should enforce it which they obviously do not. Absent that, get rid of the rule.

I sometimes wonder if where you are sailing has a lot to do with it. Having been on a lot more than 20 cruises I don't often see people dressed as you say after dinner. Maybe it's because we seldom cruise the Caribbean.

We see some people dressed casually in the theatre on every cruise. Caribbean itineraries do have more, as lots of folks hit the buffet after a day on the beach. And they want to keep "relaxed".

But no one offended us or has ruined a show because they wore shorts in the theatre.

I remember on cruises 25 years ago, no one could go anywhere on the ship at night in shorts or casual clothes. We sure had to pack!

Remember that also and we did it with dressing the kids up also.

"asked" implies it is not mandatory.

If it was mandatory, it would say "And guests must follow the........."
