Hurricane Irma Watch

Recommended Posts

Puerto Rico may be drowning in debt, but there's far more wealth and money there than any other island. It helps being part of the US.

It's also one of the few islands that has other significant industries other than tourism.

You should drive around- other than the heat, sun, and Spanish, it's very much like any other place in the US.

They should see the lavish parties thrown for graduating 8th grade !! Then tell me Puerto Ricans have no money! !

If not for Jose, I would very much bet on a month.

Seen it before.

You are being so unrealistic...now you are saying it's because of Jose...you may have seen it before but please show me an entire island in the current state of St Maarten that has done it in one month?

Husband had to bark a few times in Spannish to get the little darlings to move from a common space after I said excuse me first! They would rather I trip than move there legs or feet out of our path. The parents pay for them to stay at a hotel ,they stay up all night and play in the hot tub.

We are older and he is from Cayey originaly !

Believe me they have money!

I can't believe you are judging the population of an entire territory based on a relative few well enough off to take cruises.

That's awesome. My son is in South Miami , South of airport. He works at Miami Jackson Hospital (where I was born) and is part of their team to support the hospital. He doesn't mind working but is scared to death for his pets. He lives in a 1970's apartment complex. I think he is ready to bail and find a job later elsewhere.

my friend is a native Palm Beach'er, born and raised. He's stayed for every storm in the last 46 years. This is the first times he's evacuated. I guess after Andrew he decided no more cat 4's and 5's.

I am always amazed at how much some women spend on their wardrobe. Doesn't mean they are rich. They just have different priorities.

Always surprises me to see families in the stands at an NBA or NFL game, all sporting hundreds of dollars of their team's paraphernalia. Doesn't mean they are rich. They just have different priorities.

I am anxiously watching from myrtle beach. My heart is breaking for all those affected by Irma. Seeing all the destruction in the caribbean is too much to take. Praying for a miracle For everyone in the watch zones. We are waiting to see if it turns back to us and if we will have to evacuate. Have a cruise scheduled for the 30th. Don't know if it will happen if port everglades is destroyed. Don't even know if we will even be able to drive into Florida. If that is the case that is ok. But wondered what happens if its open and we can't go to Haiti and Jamaica? Cozumel is still ok. Where will we go? Where do the people go that have an eastern cruise even go?

Jamaica and Coz are fine, You may go to Grand Cayman or other ports in Mexico. Stay safe yourself. We snowbird in Garden City and the roads were lined with mattresses and furniture a month after Matthew.

Royal Caribbean using its own cruise ship to evacuate employees

Royal Caribbean is putting its employees aboard one of its own majestic ships to get them out of the path of Hurricane Irma.

The employees and their dependents will board the Enchantment of the Seas, a thousand-foot ship that can handle almost 2,500 passengers, and churn to calmer waters before the hurricane slams into Florida this weekend.

In addition it appears that the governor has arranged for National Guard escorts for gasoline trucks coming to resupply gas stations in the affected area to help them move through traffic more expeditiously.

I am just outside of Savannah, no gas here.

A coworker has been planning her wedding near you at Garden City Beach... for Sunday. How are things in your area, and what do you think the chances are of a Sunday wedding taking place on the beach?
