edgee Posted August 14, 2018 #152 Share Posted August 14, 2018 What do folk think of the idea of replacing the casino with another lounge/bar area as Azamara have done on the Pursuit? Disagree strongly with that iidea. Some of us enjoy playing in the casino. Why in the world do these ships need another bar? The only reason Azamara is in the process of cutting out their casinos is that their itineraries stay in port many evenings and thus their casinos often cannot be open enough to make them financially beneficial/viable for the cruise line. Rare Shippy Posted August 14, 2018 #154 Share Posted August 14, 2018 I think if they put in a bar in place of the casino they wouldn’t have to worry about losing any money :DI believe the bars are more popular than the casino. Also, the bar never loses money - the casino potentially can. Would be nice if the 'bar' was included like on Regent !
Rare LHT28 Posted August 14, 2018 #155 Share Posted August 14, 2018 Would be nice if the 'bar' was included like on Regent ! for me it would not ! I am sure others prefer the way Oceania does it It works just fine Just buy the package if you want to drink a lot JMO

Paulchili Posted August 14, 2018 #159 Share Posted August 14, 2018 (edited) Would be nice if the 'bar' was included like on Regent ! If that is your wish or desire, then why just not cruise on Regent instead of Oceania? Also, included is not the same as free. You can bet the cruise fare would go up if “bar” was “included”. Thus those who do not indulge would pay for indulgences of others. Edited August 14, 2018 by Paulchili
Rare eroller Posted August 14, 2018 #160 Share Posted August 14, 2018 Personally I like what I see. I was never a fan of the original R-Class faux Edwardian meets English Country House decor. It all seemed a bit forced and contrived to me. Sort of like a Disney theme ship. What I see now is something refreshing, contemporary, modern yet sophisticated and comfortable at the same time. It was honestly time for a remake of these ships, and I'm glad they are getting the attention they deserve. They might even surpass the extensive refit that Azamara has accomplished with their R-Class ships. That leaves PACIFIC PRINCESS as the remaining R-Class ship with the original decor largely intact. If it's anything like ADONIA when I sailed on her a year ago (now sailing as AZAMARA PURSUIT), some TLC is much needed. Oceania promises this is just the first of many OceaniaNEXT initiatives. I have to wonder what else is in store?
Beagle5 Posted August 14, 2018 #161 Share Posted August 14, 2018 The revamp makes it more likely that we would cruise on the smaller ships. We have only sailed on Marina, and our future booking are only on Marina and Riviera. But I like what I see in the promo. I appreciate that some are attached to the 'authentic(?) Edwardian' interiors. Bit they just look dated to us. And putting glass shower screens in is a real plus and ameliorates another perceived negative. cbb Posted August 14, 2018 #162 Share Posted August 14, 2018 it appears from the pictures, and I know I only have an artist concept of the refurb, but I noticed a 'throwback' or homage to the old by using the white pillow shams with the blue piping on some of the beds.... a nod to O history if true, which i love!!! Especially celebrating their 15th anniversary!
Pitcairn17 Posted August 14, 2018 #163 Share Posted August 14, 2018 Overall excited with the changes. We're on Insignia in early February (LA to Sydney). That said, I hope Mr. Binder has on staff a Vice President In Charge of Making Sure the Chairs Aren't Too Low. I understand what we see are computer renderings, but most of those new chairs were already making my knees ache.
Finlaggan Posted August 14, 2018 #164 Share Posted August 14, 2018 It seems very promising, less “chintz” and more understated in style. I would go back to the smaller ships now. Just one thing, could O also update their afternoon canapés in PH cabins please.....? They really need to offer something different after all these years.... RJB Posted August 14, 2018 #165 Share Posted August 14, 2018 Count me as the "rich old lady" who doesn't like the planned changes. It may not matter since my April cruise on Marina will probably be my last. DH has severe vision problems and doesn't want to travel any more. I'll be going alone on this one but may not do more given changes like these! I liked the old style elegance ... Don't get me wrong -- I don't HATE the proposed changes. I just don't like them. And for ships that have an older demographic, those low seats are really difficult. We noticed that on NCL's GEM in 2010. It hasn't gotten better ... Mura Sorry to hear about your DH. Hope his problem will clear up. Also I will miss your posts. We need as many fresh ideas as we can get even if we don't always agree with all of them. Have a great cruise and good luck in the future. Tansy Mews Posted August 14, 2018 #167 Share Posted August 14, 2018 pinotlover......the financing for a goodly portion of this enhancement project is already in the works.....by our loyal Oceania Club members, five cruises and higher, who will on average be shorted $600 per cruise, $460 spa credits and $100-$250 sbc, beginning Nov. 1, 2019. What does this mean? More info, please! Frances

Rare eroller Posted August 14, 2018 #172 Share Posted August 14, 2018 What do folk think of the idea of replacing the casino with another lounge/bar area as Azamara have done on the Pursuit? It's interesting Azamara decided not to add a casino to PURSUIT. I sailed on the ship as P&O's ADONIA and she did not have a casino either. The midship bar and lounge was much more pleasant compared to the Azamara and Oceania ships that have the casino, but I realize that many people desire a casino. Viking Ocean has no casinos on their ships, and perhaps Azamara is testing the waters so to speak with PURSUIT.

UDSpud Posted August 14, 2018 #174 Share Posted August 14, 2018 Why do all four ships have to be so similar? Let try two without casino's. Let try two with old style but new furnishings. Lets try two that emphasize overnight port stops (yes the fares will be higher, but fuel costs may be less). Lets try an older name entertainer for which there would be reserved seats and a fee. I would pay, like a shore excursion, to hear some singers from the past. Petula Clark would be an example. Carole King, Carly Simon and others come to mind. How about a specialty restaurant that features Southern and New Orleans food, or other US regional food. Lets think outside the ship (box).
