voyager70 Posted October 22, 2018 #28 Share Posted October 22, 2018 Mc D's used to serve pizza? I don't remember that. Give me a Filet of Fish anyday though. Make it 2 (they're small) ☺️
George C Posted October 22, 2018 #29 Share Posted October 22, 2018 NCL is only line I will not cruise on , thought they went downhill about 15years ago when they removed traditional dinning, rccl is currently my favorite line but things could change , love suite perks on celebrity and looking forward to msc yacht club. I live in the Northeast and don't recall it but I could be mistaken. As far as Tilapia - yuck. My least favorite seafood!
The Fun Researcher Posted October 22, 2018 #33 Share Posted October 22, 2018 (edited) Sounds to me like someone trying to justify their purchasing decision (NCL), especially without ever sailing RCI. We have two sets of friends that have sailed both NCL and RCI multiple times. One prefers NCL, and the other RCI. However, calling RCI the McDonald's of cruising is just silly, especially without putting it into context. McDonald's is the #1 most valuable fast food brand. Like others said, NCL must fall somewhere below that then. 😉 Dan Edited October 22, 2018 by The Fun Researcher

Thsts what I was thinking, op didn’t state out of her 22 cruises she ever cruised Royal Caribbean. To make such a comment is obserd. Kind of like those that diss Carnival but never been on one of their ships. 😀
starrcards Posted October 22, 2018 #35 Share Posted October 22, 2018 I've seen RCCL posters that have a "love/hate" relationship. More than once I've seen a comment, I sailed ship X which I loved and my recent cruise on Ship Y was terrible.

DirtyDawg Posted October 22, 2018 #37 Share Posted October 22, 2018 (edited) Why anyone cares or is hurt if a friend calls Royal the McD's of cruising is beyond me. So she likes NCL over Royal, what's the big deal? Everyone is different, and there is no right or wrong in her choice or a RCL's cruiser's choice. Now, if the friend in this case was a senior executive at Royal, then I'd care.😊 Edited October 22, 2018 by DirtyDawg

BillNY Posted October 22, 2018 #42 Share Posted October 22, 2018 (edited) To the OP: I can understand why you felt hurt by your friend's comment. In comparing RCL to McDonald's, she certainly wasn't inferring that NCL was Burger King to NCL's McDonald's ... it was obviously a jab at RCL, and, by association, a comment on your choice of cruise line. I don't understand why people need to do that; she could certainly have offered her opinion as to her choice of cruise line without putting any choice down. Similarly, people will say that Carnival or whatever cruise line is the "Wal-Mart" of cruise lines. Again, it says more about the person making the jab then it says about the person they are insulting. My own two cents: we just recently sailed on both NCL and RCL, and they are much more similar than different. We had a great time on both ships, just as we have had on Cunard, on Carnival, on Viking, on American Queen Steamboat, on Princess... mdwcruises Posted October 23, 2018 #43 Share Posted October 23, 2018 Royal Caribbean, Norwegain, McDonald's, Walmart, all of them corporate America entities aiming to make profits off the masses and none of them a status symbol or deserving of unreciprocated loyalty. One of the women that has been on 22 cruises with NCL said that she thought that Royal Caribbean was the McDonalds of cruise lines. I have to say I was kind of hurt by this. Don't really agree with this either. I thought for the most part NCL was similar to slightly above RCI. Am I wrong on this? I thought you were going to say 22 cruises with some premium or luxury line. That would make more sense. NCL?! The Spirit Airlines of cruising? Ha! And she hasn't even been on RCI? That lady is delusional.
oldguysandgalls Posted October 23, 2018 #45 Share Posted October 23, 2018 Just tell your friend you don't care what he or she says about cruise line X Y Z and if they truly care...... tell him/her to pay for your next cruise (including airfare and gratuities) and spending money for the casino, specialty restaurants, shore excursions etc. Oh, and remind him or her you want a penthouse suite. Rare KKB Posted October 23, 2018 #46 Share Posted October 23, 2018 We have cruised DCL, RCCL, Princess & Celebrity. Parents have cruised RCCL, Princess, Celebrity & NCL. Our 23YO son has cruised DCL, RCCL, Princess, Celebrity & NCL. Both my parents & our son say they are all more alike than different BUT NCL is a jump BELOW the other 4....but they would still cruise them again for the right price... Thus why we have booked NCL for NYE 2019...the price was right!

grest Posted October 23, 2018 #49 Share Posted October 23, 2018 I've been on many brands: Carnival, Holland America, Celebrity, NCL, Royal Caribbbean, Costa....haven''t been on a ship I didn't like. People have personal preferences, and that's fine. No need to insult, though, if that's indeed what the person was trying to do.
Robo1098 Posted October 23, 2018 Author #50 Share Posted October 23, 2018 It wasn't that she compared it to McDonalds. It just seems to me when you compare anything to a fast food place it can't be good. Funny thing was the conversation was actually to invite my friend and her on a cruise we have booked on Symphony in April 2019. When she came out with the McDonalds statement I was kind of thrown off. I'm hoping she was just naïve.
