Hi !

I am sure that we smokers would  like to enjoy a cigarette after dinner, or in between show and dinner, while enjoying a martini or espresso or just taking a break from  the casino, without going all the way up to Deck 14.  Let's try and get Celebrity's attention and add a little space for us on Deck 5.  It would be so appreciated!!

Comment in numbers and let's get this viewed by Celebrity.

garda- there are designated places to smoke on Edge.  IMO Celebrity will not likely change this or add to them. There are not likely to be enough smokers these days to "comment in numbers" as you request.  I am a non-smoker but I respect your rights to smoke in the designated areas.  Any post on CC even mentioning smoking will draw a lot of negative comments so be prepared to get lectured by some.

Smoking is the least thing that determines whether we enjoy our vacation.

Hi!

Totally agree.  No big deal.    I will enjoy every second on the Edge and will enjoy riding the elevators also!  Lol!

I am sure you and your husband will enjoy your cruise on Celebrity!

Thanks for your comments, appreciate it!

I expected negative comments, but that's okay.  Still going on the Edge and going to LOVE every minute of it!!

We love Celebrity because of their highly restrictive smoking policy. No need to increase available smoking areas. Understand they have routed the running track away from any smoking area. Much better design.

Hi!

Thanks for all your comments.  Duly noted.  I guess all the smokers have abandoned this thread!  Wonder why? LoL!

No worries to all you Non Smokers.  I follow the rules, go smoke in the designated smoking areas and NO, I don't smoke on the balcony and NO it isn't difficult to take the elevator!  I wonder how long it will take for someone to complain that the elevators are too slow and blame it all on the dreaded SMOKERS!  LOL!

I just have one tiny little ask to you Non Smokers...please don't pass by the smoking area and give us dirty looks, wave you hand in disgust and comment on us smoking.  That is very irritating as you have the entire ship, so please leave us smoke without feeling like we are to be BURNT AT THE STAKES because we are enjoying our cigarette.

It's all good folks.  I will be on vacation on a cruise.  Can't get better than that!  Live and let Live.

Happy Cruising to all and Wishing you all a Wonderful Holiday Season

Reading comments from non smokers (of which I am one) if I were you I would quit.  One day you will be jailed for being a smoker, of course unless it's weed.  I understand all the non smoker attitude but I also sympathize, my brother is a smoker.  I am serious though you will be considered a social criminal one day and turned in if caught.  Being banned from a cruse ship...well the writing is on the wall there for much sooner.   Sorry.

No one was asking for an increase to smoking areas but rather to go with what was originally planned for this ship and put it more back in line with the other Celebrity ships. S-class ships (except Reflection) have a total of 5 smoking areas (one side of Sunset Bar, near the bar above the pool deck, in one corner of the pool deck and two locations on Deck 5).

The place that made the most sense on Deck 5 is down at the ends of either deck towards the front of the ship. If you exit the theatre out into the deck and then walk forward the deck turns into a little dead end alcove. There is a door there for crew access only so it is not a pass through area for guests and smokers congregating there would not disturb anyone. You can see them in the image I attached above the lifeboats. The door opening shown on the deckplan is the crew only doors I referred to.

In case Celebrity is monitoring this thread, my two cents is in alignment with the vast majority. The restrictive smoking policy was a main reason Celebrity became my primary cruise line. Please continue to gradually reduce the number of smoking areas and do NOT reinstate a lower deck smoking area - as the smoke from lower decks has a much greater chance of drifting and impacting non-smoking areas.

I think smoking should be restricted to the top deck (15) only

I didn't like it on Solstice that as you came out of the elevators on one side to go to the pool, there was an area for smokers

if it is restricted to a certain area on the top deck out in the open then that won't really affect the non smokers

I noticed on our recent cruise aboard the Summit, (where the smoking area is on deck 4, I think) that the martini bar and that corridor by the mid-ship elevators reeked of smoke. It has quite literally permeated the curtains and fabric of the chairs in that area.

I’m a non smoker. I hate being around any type of smoke, because it triggers my allergies. However, my sister, with whom I would love to take a cruise, is a smoker. It does no good to lecture fellow adults about smoking. Do I wish my sister would quit? Absolutely! But, I know that every uninvited, judgemental comment I have ever made to her on this subject has done nothing but make her believe I wasn’t treating her with the respect that she, a fully competent adult, deserved. She was right.

Despite being a non smoker, I believe that unless Celebrity becomes fully non smoking, there should be convenient smoking areas. Having no lower deck smoking area is not exactly convenient.  On every other ship (M & S class) there is a small smoking area on Deck 4 or Deck 5, port side, as well as others on higher decks.

For your information, I cruised with MSC earlier this year.  Smoking was only allowed in 2 outside areas.  One being the upper deck, aft and the other being on Deck 5 or 6 ( no chairs ), which was often closed due to high winds!  Oh, and yes there was a cigar lounge, which I did use ( sorry ), when it was pouring rain!  That's it.  One upper and one lower deck was just right!

All this to say, it's not only Celebrity that has strict smoking policies and that is fine by me!

What about e cigarettes? I’m not a smoker so I don’t know if those are allowed - never had a need to check. I know it’s no substitute for a cigar but it could be good enough in a pinch if you are comfy and don’t feel like riding an elevator.

nope not allowed in public areas outside of smoking areas. e-cigs also emit particulates in the nm range that have negative health impacts together with a number of chemical and heavy metal components depending upon the specific liquid and device used.

From my experience, Celebrity considers smokers who break the rules as social criminals.

We were on a cruise a few years ago aboard Infinity. One day, while returning to our cabin, we smelled cigarette smoke in the hallway. When we reached our cabin we realized the smell was coming from a cabin next to us. I alerted a steward who was in the area. The steward pounded on the door even though the "do not disturb" sign was displayed. Sure enough the couple was smoking on the veranda with the sliding door open. The steward gave them a verbal warning and in clear terms said serious consequences could result if they were caught again. Guess what? They were caught smoking again the next day. This time a senior officer gave them a written warning and explained that if there was a third incidence they may be removed from the ship. Sure enough, they were caught a third time. They were removed from Infinity at the next port.

BTW - I quit "cold turkey" 34 years ago.

My issue with smoking is it affects the air around me with the slightest change in wind. If it didn't affect me, I say smoke all you want.

With that said, I agree that the smoke on Summit gets sucked inside. I smelled it many times on the lower decks.

On Equinox we had to call on the people below us smoking on their balcony. They did it again during the day, then went to only doing it at night. It's very irritating to pay for a balcony and not be able to use it because of people who can't follow rules.

That’s insane! Celebrity doesn’t mess around. But they did give them ample warning and clearly stated the consequences. I feel no sympathy for them.

Now if they will designate areas for people who overdose with parfum/cologne, all will be well with the world !!!😁

Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas !!
