I received my medallion this week. My husband hasn't received anything. I was surprised I received it this far in advance......I thought it was a month or so at most. Are they sending them out earlier now? I haven't even made final payment yet. Hopefully, I won't lose it before we sail. Yeah that's very odd. Should be sent 2-3 weeks before the cruise. Also I'd expect your husband to receive it not only at the same time but I'd expect it to come in the same box. Not that it would hurt anything to have it this far in advance, even if you lost it they can replace it, but I'd be inclined to call princess and ask for clarification just because it seems so far out of the ordinary. Are you somehow on a cruise over labor day weekend and didn't know it? 🤣

I went in to the personalizer just to make sure I hadn't somehow booked a cruise by mistake or booked one and forgot.......haven't EVER done that but it made me a little concerned. There's nothing in there.....two cruises booked with the first is Jan. 2020 and last one in Feb. 2021. I checked the box carefully and there was only one in there. I wonder if there is someone out there waiting for their medallion that was accidentally sent to me. Edited August 19, 2019 by LMADAMS91

BytheC Posted August 20, 2019 #857 Share Posted August 20, 2019 Is there any one else who thinks that this medallion thing is just another way, like Big Brother, to track your whereabouts, Including your personal information, what you spent money on, how often you were in a bar or casino or how much you spent? There are too many hacks around the world to get your info. Not just on the ship but everywhere. Every bank, governmental agency, and data bank has been hacked. I wouldn't ever give my info away to any cruise line or other company that wanted my location. If you trust Princess, go ahead.

Except for exactly tracking you location in real time the cruise line already knows and can track everything else mentioned in your first paragraph. If you do not give them the desired information no cruise line is going to allow you to board. A simple RFID pouch will foil their dastardly attempt to track you. Oh, and get used to it. The medallion will eventually spread throughout the Carnival lines and something similar to other lines. I still want to know what all the folks so deeply concerned about privacy are doing during their cruises.

It has my name and "Princess Academy Winner." (I'm a travel agent and Princess Academy is the online training they provide.) I didn't notice that at first-I have no idea what it means either. I've contacted my agency to see if any of the other agents have ever heard anything about it and nothing. I found nothing on their website either. Maybe we get a medallion since we've done the training but for the life of me, I can't understand why they would send out a medallion.

I'm a TA too, Commodore even, and didn't receive a lifetime Medallion. I'm pretty sure it's not for your Sky sailing, though. Did you win one of the free cruises they offered for attending the webinar the other day? They also were drawing for a free cruise for going through their Medallion training. Well, darn. I really thought you won something! I did the training too but didn’t get a special Medallion. I've already done six Medallion cruises and have six more coming up this year so maybe they figured I didn’t need any extra Medallions. 1

Your portfolio show what you have purchased and when, how many times you used the casino and which bars you frequented. They have your credit card number and all this was available way before the medallion came to be, so why are we spending so much time worrying about it and enjoy your voyage or stay home. How about Experian and Capitol One. Should we worry about them? Have you read all of the Ocean privacy policy? All the way through? You might as well publish your information in the newspaper or online. Here is a small clip from the privacy policy. Absolutely there is no guarantee that you information is entirely safe unless you don't have a credit card, use the internet, apply for a checking account, buy a car, etc. The prudent thing is to do the best you can wit the stuff you can control, use a company like LifeLock and credit card companies that monitor you purchases for unusual purchases, change your password often using complex strings and so on. My point is that the medallion doesn't do anything different than we had previously by giving the cruise company our credit card and they gave you a cruise card. No question that the medallion system is a great marketing/harvesting tool and yeah, it sure can be hacked like anything else. I choose to protect my back end by using Lifelock, all the other security protection services available and do the prudent things so that I feel comfortable boarding the ship with my medallion and enjoying the reason we booked the cruise and just concentrate on the things I can control from that point on. If I was going to worry that the medallion was going to compromise me and dwell on that, I wouldn't book the voyage in the first place.

Did you read the entire privacy policy that details what information they collect and what they can do with it? The old cruise card didn't broadcast your information to the crew along with your shopping, drinking, or eating habits. How about your allergy information? Your passport information? Home address? Too much information is shared too freely by consumers and companies. Then when the fit hits the shan, it's all finger pointing while the average consumer is left holding the bag to straighten out identity theft. We use a service similar to lifelock through our big box warehouse club. Lots of people are too trusting. We are not. We are the ones who refuse to give out our social security number to medical providers. We are the ones who refuse to give our phone number to store clerks at the checkout counter. I'll stick with the cruise card on our next and final Princess cruise. Time will tell........ Edited August 22, 2019 by SargassoPirate
