The old piano bar in Michaels' club with the silly guy who put on a show making fun of people who have granite countertops and stainless steel appliances in their homes (don't recall his name).

Some people loved him and some hated him, but he was always a topic of discussion.

There were other piano bar players as well, but that guy seemed to be the one who drew the most attention.

Perry Grant - think he went over to Princess.

Since our first cruise in 2014:

1.  Fruit in Aqua and Concierge

2.  Fresh Bread, decent bread spreads in Blu.

3.  Bistro on 5 (at a fair price)

4.  Mongolian Wok

5.  Great San Juan to NJ repo

6.  Comparative Fare Pricing

7.  Better MDR food quality

8.  Fresh Squeezed OJ in Oceanview Cafe!

"Showtime" in the dining room, where they would bring out a big tray and show you all the desserts each night before needing to make your decision of which dessert to order.

Mints supplied after dinner each night as you were leaving the dining room.

Automatically providing a water pitcher and ice bucket for each cabin that got refilled twice each day, without your needing to request them.

Some new passengers may not even realize that they are available upon request.

Supplying writing paper and pens in each cabin without needing to ask for them.  Especially handy the first day for jotting down reminders of things to ask your butler/stateroom attendant, or even for your own to-do list.  In the past, they were always provided by each telephone so you could jot down notes when you got a phone call.

Lately, this seems to be random hit or miss.

When asked why they no longer supply such items, the standard reply has been that not everyone wants them or uses them.

But they could/should at  least provide a list in each cabin of additional items that are available upon request.

They used to provide a large jar with cotton balls and q-tips for every cabin bathroom, not only for suites, which still get them.

Those tiny little cardboard boxes where you need to cut the cellophane wrapper off each individual small packet of q-tips are an inconvenient pain, besides being an enormous waste of cardboard.

A nice touch that is no more was having a harpist playing during meals and also the string quartet (which was reduced to a string trio, and then to a string duo).

Being assisted with your carry-on luggage and escorted to your cabin upon embarkation was especially helpful for new passengers,  instead of the current bedlam on embarkation day with new passengers scurrying around trying to find their cabins.

Those who did not want an escort could simply decline the offer.

They also used to have an age restriction on children in the specialty restaurants (which could be a big plus or minus, depending on whether or not you were the one with the small children).

I'm glad to learn that they are again providing daily water in aqua class.  It is long overdue.

Perry Grant was the pianist.  We saw him on Princess last year and he had quite a following. LOL

Just off Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas  Perry played every night in the Schooner Bar to standing room only crowds.

I didn't discover the delicious chocolate beet muffins (sounds gross, but actually wonderful) in the Spa Cafe in the solarium until near the end of our Reflection Med cruise in 2017. Upon boarding Eclipse in 2018, I went to find them the first day, only to find the menu had completely changed. I inquired about the muffins and was informed that the contract with the former Spa Cafe supplier had expired and a new one was in place. I was also informed that many people wanted and missed those muffins.

Move on people. Times change. Nothing ever stays the same. In the 1980s my dad kept complaining how everything was better in the 1950s. Now I sometimes catch myself doing the same thing. The key is, it wasn’t better, it was familiar - and therefore you like it.

Some things have been lost, some things have been gained. Somehow we always overlook the latter. Yet change is the spice of life.

And, a 1995 Celebrity price per day corrected for inflation would be even more expensive than today’s Edge pricing.

How about 2015 pricing, adjusted for inflation?  I am willing to pay 1995 prices, but it will lean towards the luxury market.

Murano equivalent restaurants on M class ships. That's the only thing we miss out of the other things mentioned. (Don't ever remember having chocolate bar sized chocolates on the pillow but they did have better quality years ago.)

Yes!  As far as I'm concerned, those restaurants were better than Murano.

Not only paper and pens, customized paper with your name and cabin #.  I still have some from our early cruises.

My favorite of that from our first cruise on the Mercury.  My sister and I were sharing a cabin.  One of us got stationery with Ms. or Mrs. (can't remember which) Lastname and the other got stationery with Mr. Lastname.  We thought that was really strange.  Neither of us have names which could be mistaken for male names.

Yes! This I miss. I have often been disappointed by desserts that SOUND wonderful according to the menu description but turn out to be not at all what I expected.

The Molecular Bar! Still some of the most exotic, glamourous, fanciest, quality cocktails I've ever had!

I agree.  The world class bar just isn't the same.  Bring back the dry ice drinks!!

Great cooked to order  Salmon and chicken lunch  at AQ spa cafe.. now it is really not much of anything.. nuts and berries!

I was wondering about this.  Unfortunately we never went in the past, and tried it on our current cruise, hoping for an ongoing alternative.  There's not much there of substance that I'm willing to eat, or view as healthy.  Too much of it was white flower noodles, where I'm trying to only eat whole grain.

I sailed the Celebrity Reflection right before they shut down the Molecular Bar in 2015. They were no longer serving dry ice drinks. 😞 When I pestered the bartender to tell me why he said they were serving dry ice drinks on a Carnival Cruise ship and a passenger was ordered to NOT DRINK his cocktail until the smoke had dissipated. Said passenger proceeded to drink the drink anyways causing damage to his throat. He sued Carnival Cruises and WON and got a settlement in the 5 digits. Even though witnesses said he was warned not to drink it. So Celebrity was ordered not to serve dry ice drinks anymore as it was a 'liability'.

Because of the asinine moves of one, all must be denied. 😞

Isn't elite breafast buffet on both M & S class set up on carpeted floor

It was plated service on Silhouette last June, but I think the reason may have been due to fewer Elites on the Baltic sailing.
