Things that Celebrity have done away with that you would like to see back

What is it that you liked in past cruises but Celebrity have stopped doing or changed for the worse and you would like to see brought back?

Complimentary Sushi at 5pm on back deck.

Legit fresh squeezed orange juice.

Chocolate on pillows.

I would like to see them bring back the old Captain’s Club party. Back when they had the food stations such as a prime rib, and a dessert one, a salad bar one, and a shrimp one. Also the unlimited drinks, with plenty of servers to keep your glass full. It was topped off with a couple of the production show singers, and or dancers who put on a 10-15 minute show. I almost forgot, there were musicians playing the entire time. This was before the Modern Luxury and LLP.

Michaels Club re-opened to all guests (not only suite) and the piano entertainers returned. I don't understand why X decided to do away with this kind of entertainment/venue as It was always busy back in the old days and RCCL have the Schooner bar and Princess have Crooners which offer similar entertainment and continue to be very popular venues.  

 

I have nothing against suite guests having their own private lounge but surely X could re-locate this someplace else instead of taking away a popular venue from the majority (non-suite) guests.

There are chocolates on the pillows so I’m not sure why that made someone’s list?

 •     pm buffet, chocolate buffet , Grand buffet  brunch in mdr 

 •     Classical music in mdr on formal now chic night 

 •     Reggae/ steel drum

 •     Plush towels in AQ class

 •     Daily  printed puzzles

 •     No jeans for dinner

 

Everything mentioned in above posts.. the old chocolates were not minis!

 Grand geezer, they still have the production singers at least some of the parties,  the others always have musicians. They can’t do the buffet anymore because of US public health laws which prohibit serving food on carpeted areas. Of course they might use the dance floor for serving the food but then they couldn’t have the dancers. I guess they have made the choice to have music, introduction of officers, and dancing on the dance floor with passed appetizers.  They do offer unlimited drinks during the party.

 

as to reintroducing the buffet in the MDR, they run into the same USPH laws.  Can’t have buffet on carpeted surfaces.

 

And they had puzzles on Reflection in January and on Eclipse last month, and when they ran out you just had to ask at the front desk and they would print more for you.

Bring back the daily bottled water in Aqua Class.

I was just at a Captains Club party earlier this year (the Mardi Gras cruise) where they did, in fact, serve a buffet in the Sky Lounge. There were multiple stations all over the lounge, all in carpeted areas.   I have never heard of this law.  I am not suggesting it does not exist (although if it does, Celebrity broke it), but I am curious.  Is this a new law?  Do you have a link to it?  I would like to learn more about it.

-They used to staff a server cutting better quality cheeses and meats at the lunch buffet. You could make up a nice charcuterie plate.

-Formal nights used to feel more special with sorbet in between courses and lemons for lobsters were wrapped in netting and waiters wore white gloves.

-Aquaspa café used to serve wonderful special small plates such as prosciutto wrapped asparagus & checkerboard watermelon & feta salad. 

-Daily news paper sheets printed in several languages.

-Playing cards from guest services

Are you saying you miss the two dailt bottles of Spring water in AQ or that you were given 2 cans each day? If the latter was this the  processed water in metal..or something else ?  

 

We only rec' d two welcome waters but it tasted awful!

Chocolates were more like small bar .and better quality..best I can recall.  They have been diminished over the years.

Great cooked to order  Salmon and chicken lunch  at AQ spa cafe.. now it is really not much of anything.. nuts and berries!

 

I like this thread b/c it gives some idea of what Celebrity  style Modern Luxury used to be like ....Many folks think the loyal X cruisers make stuff up...but these are specifics.

Every stateroom attendant we have talked to since the changeover likes not having an assistant.  They know they don’t have to be chasing them down to see where they are or what they are doing & they like being in charge themselves.

Murano equivalent restaurants on M class ships. That's the only thing we miss out of the other things mentioned. (Don't ever remember having chocolate bar sized chocolates on the pillow but they did have better quality years ago.)

"Showtime" in the dining room, where they would bring out a big tray and show you all the desserts each night before needing to make your decision of which dessert to order.

 

Mints supplied after dinner each night as you were leaving the dining room.

 

Automatically providing a water pitcher and ice bucket for each cabin that got refilled twice each day, without your needing to request them.

 

Some new passengers may not even realize that they are available upon request.

 

Supplying writing paper and pens in each cabin without needing to ask for them.  Especially handy the first day for jotting down reminders of things to ask your butler/stateroom attendant, or even for your own to-do list.  In the past, they were always provided by each telephone so you could jot down notes when you got a phone call.

Lately, this seems to be random hit or miss.

 

When asked why they no longer supply such items, the standard reply has been that not everyone wants them or uses them.

But they could/should at  least provide a list in each cabin of additional items that are available upon request.

 

They used to provide a large jar with cotton balls and q-tips for every cabin bathroom, not only for suites, which still get them.

Those tiny little cardboard boxes where you need to cut the cellophane wrapper off each individual small packet of q-tips are an inconvenient pain, besides being an enormous waste of cardboard.
 

The old piano bar in Michaels' club with the silly guy who put on a show making fun of people who have granite countertops and stainless steel appliances in their homes (don't recall his name).

Some people loved him and some hated him, but he was always a topic of discussion. 

There were other piano bar players as well, but that guy seemed to be the one who drew the most attention.

 

A nice touch that is no more was having a harpist playing during meals and also the string quartet (which was reduced to a string trio, and then to a string duo).

 

Being assisted with your carry-on luggage and escorted to your cabin upon embarkation was especially helpful for new passengers,  instead of the current bedlam on embarkation day with new passengers scurrying around trying to find their cabins.

Those who did not want an escort could simply decline the offer.

 

They also used to have an age restriction on children in the specialty restaurants (which could be a big plus or minus, depending on whether or not you were the one with the small children).

 

I'm glad to learn that they are again providing daily water in aqua class.  It is long overdue.

Starting sailing Celebrity in 1993. After 26 years and 32 cruises with them, my list is much toooo long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
