Norwegian worst customer service on the 7 seas

That would be the breakaway to be specific. Ive never experienced such rude staff in all my years of cruising as I have on the breakaway.

Staff is rude. They dont respond when asked a question. My wife and i asked a young lady what exactly is the ice bar and her literal response was "what does it look like". My wife was ready to jump across the podium at this woman.

I literally watched a bartender argue with a customer over a drink. Got in the customers face as if he were going to fight. How did this happen? Is there anything that can be done to better this situation on Norwegian?

People pay good money to go on vacation to relax. Not to be at odds with staff.

I am sure this question will be added to the crew's list of questions that contain such gems as "Does the crew sleep on board?;" Does the water go all around the island?"; and "Does this elevator go to the front of the ship?"

I can top that one...another cruise line.  It's 9pm at night.   The newsletter for the next day's events is supposed to be delivered to the room by 8pm.    It's not there.  I want to go to bed but I also want to know what's happening the next day.   I go to the front desk, figuring they have a copy.    Nope...I don't see it.    I wait in line and nicely ask "Could I have today's newsletter? Mine didn't arrive."   The guy rudely points the pile of old newsletters.   I said "No, what about the one that was supposed to be delivered TODAY, it didn't arrive"   He then lectures me on what day it is, where we JUST were and that he showed me "today's" newsletter.   I said "Fine, give me TOMORROW's newsletter"    He says "Well, if that's what you wanted, you should have asked for it".   And note...every encounter with diff folks at that front desk was similar.

Bottom line - every cruise ship has its rude folks.   Every cruise has moments of lack of service, moments when passengers are rude, staff are rude etc.   1) Every ship has it, you can't escape and 2) If you focus on these things, it'll be really hard to have a "good cruise".   If you accept that there are a few rude moments, but overall, you had a good time, you'll have a better memory of the experience and a have a better cruise.

Agreed- its like a small city with 6,000 people- everything is not going to be 100% just like real life.  Every boat i've been on has always had 1 or 2 minor things.

I ususally resolve them by having a few drinks and writing a nice note saying I'm enjoying the cruise but if this isn't fixed I'm cancelling my next one first thing in the AM lol.

Looking for some context...

Prior to your Breakaway experience, what was the rudest experience from all your years of cruising and why?

Also...one question, one answer, and your wife was going to "jump across the podium" at someone? Why? Seems like that situation escalated way out of proportion don't you think? Someone gives you a rude response and you report it to guest services or to the Hotel Director...you don't "jump across the podium".

So this clearly shows that the OP's wife was out to pick a fight. And it is likely that no matter what the crew member said (and the response stated by the OP is clearly embellished and inaccurately reported) the OP and his wife were going to pick a fight. And I have been to a lot of bars and know that it is physically impossible for a bartender to "get in someone's face",,,, again a gross exaggeration of the facts.  May be the perception resulting from the effects of the Premium Beverage Package.

Maybe the lady at the podium didn't understand the question or didn't hear it correctly.  Jumping across the podium implies your wife was close to physically attacking the woman.  Why?

I don't want to speculate on what did or did not happen on the OP's cruise, but I will say that we went on the Breakaway this past January and it was our least favorite ship.  It is a beautiful ship and we never saw a problem with it not being kept clean.  One of our favorite parts of the cruise is the meals and we felt the food in MDR was our least favorite to date.   We definitely felt the service was lacking.  No one was ever rude, but with the exception of the waiters in the Casino no one was above average.  We had a really good time as we have on every other cruise we have been on (about 25 cruises to date with Carnival, NCL, and Royal Caribbean).

That being said, we have another cruise booked on the Breakaway this September and are very much looking forward to it.  The deal we got we could not pass up.  My brother will be going along with us for the first time.  It will be our first time with drink package.  We got the perk of 3 specialty restaurants (we will have to pay for the 3rd person), though we can't decide which ones to try.

All in all we feel a ho-hum day on a cruise is better than a nice day at home.

Only 91 days till we go.........

As obvious in most in these "rudest staff ever" stories, it's frequently the guest's attitude that tests even the most cordial of hospitality staff.

As human beings, sometimes it's impossible to "suck it up and be polite because that's your job".

Literally.

Sorry, but I would have responded the same way as the desk person. You asked for "today's," not "tomorrow's" newsletter.

Bottom line - every cruise ship has passengers whose convoluted logic confuses the crew and when they respond the best they can, are accused by the passenger as being rude.

Customer service on the ship: For the most part 99 out of 100 crew will go out of their way( or just do their job) and are doing a good to great job. You might have 1 employee having a bad day. It is almost always the customer trying to get something free.

Customer service off the ship: My last 15 cruises I have booked through a travel agent. If I call NCL directly I seem to be on hold for 30 to 40 minutes. Whenever they answer they are very helpful BUT 30 to 40 minutes on hold ?????

While I have not been on one of the Mega ships, I have not met a customer facing employee who was rude - or even seen such behavior. Having been in customer service, I also realize that there are a lot of ID10Ts out there that you just want to strangle - or maybe just give a flip answer to - example with the daily news flyer - you got a correct answer but not the one you were looking for- think Microsoft Tech Support :classic_cool:
