Allure propulsion issues?

On our Sept 22 on Allure, they changed the time in port at Falmouth, later arrival and departure and only five hours in San Juan, and then Labadee a full day.  I like the schedule, four sea days and no change in venue, just the times and in a GRAND suite too!😁

The Sept 22nd cruise does not go to San Juan. It goes to Labadee, Falmouth and Cozumel with 3 total sea days.

Wonder what Allure's top cruising speed is?

They can cruise at top speed if they want, however that will just wear out the thrust bearing faster.

Looking at recent data from Marinetraffic, about 19knots.

That's not too bad (or slow) for a cruising speed.  From our experience ships rarely have a need to go faster than 20 knots.

Wondering if we will see Allure stuck some place because the issues escalate?!

I doubt it,  as far as we know she has two good azipods.  I think it was Indy that ran with only two for about a year.

And Carnival had one in Alaska for over a year with only one of two pods.

So if the Carnival ship had only one pod, were they required to use tugs when maneuvering the pier?

In US ports, yes. All the way from the sea buoy to the dock. Not sure about Canada.

Even without Propulsion issues, these happen all the time, have had dozen's Medical Emergencies over the yrs. 3 on one Cruise alone last yr. Speed up, turn around, and multiple airlifts, many missed/changed Ports and time's. All without Engine problem's. . Not predictable, happen's...

I was talking the Port Agent in Halifax, while waiting for a taxi (my Mother had a medical emergency).  At the same, a man left the ship, his wife had fallen and broken her collar bone.

So I asked if this was the most, he laughed and said no.  One time, the ship removed and replaced the gangway SIX times for medical emergencies, all that happened at the last minute.

Haven't heard specifics of her Azipod issue but know few times others had issues it was still able function if had to, plus the 2 other good ones it really isnt that big of a deal safety wise

You are right!👀

I had that mixed up with my August 18 Allure cruise, too many cruises!  🤩

It is a MAJOR birthday year and I am treating myself to lots of travel and cruises.😍

Thanks, but no, it did not.

But she went while traveling, having her evening glass or two of wine.

i am booked on a sept. and oct. 2019 Allure cruise and have not received any notice of possible changes. Does anyone know if they will notify us if there are any?

Yes, they should notify you or your travel agent, but I'd keep an eye on your booking, just in case.

I'm on the Allure on Nov 24. We are supposed to be going to Perfect Day, St Thomas and St Maarten. It sounds like ports will likely change since this issue won't be fixed until dry dock?

Will it be St Thomas changing to San Juan or potentially other changes?

We are on the Nov. 3rd sailing. I received an email last week saying we will skip St. Kitts and go to San Juan instead.

Sorry to hear that, but a great time to go is when you're doing what you love.

  • 3 months later...

Is Allure still having propulsion problems. Our itinerary for Our December 8, 2019 cruise had been changed eliminating St Kitts and adding Puerto Rico. I noticed this in the cruise planner. I was never contacted by my travel agent or Rccl.
When I called Rccl about it, the agent said it was because of weather. I knew immediately he didn’t know what he was talking about. LOL. Weather officials can’t even predict accurately the weather that far in advance, but the agent can?

Our travel agent is closed til Monday. Any information would be appreciated .

We are on Allure's sailing tomorrow with what would have been the same itinerary however they didn't notify us of the change until right around final payment. They are not very upfront about the itinerary change at all. So yes there are still propulsion problems that will persist until the upcoming dry dock.

Your travel agent should have notified you. I was notified in July. . Royal Caribbean notified my TA and she notified us the next day.

We were notified in July. Through our travel agent. Before final payment so upfront for us. They also passed on that there were mechanical issues. So we knew upfront before final payment. If you used a travel agent then the fault is likely with the travel agent. If you booked direct with Royal then you might be right to blame Royal. I suspect though that they sent out the same update to those who booked direct as they sent to Travel Agents. I am a firm believer in booking thru travel agents and but you have to find a good one.

I think my wife booked this through Casino Royale, based on a discount from her previous play. But I knew all along about the propulsion issues and the likelihood of an itinerary change I was just a little curios at how long they took to officially inform us.
