Huge fight on Encore

Do you have a link to a news article or was it just on tv...I searched and didn’t find anything. Also, what ports denied the encore since they just left Miami on Sunday and their first stop isn’t until San Juan later today...

It wasnt the Encore.  It was the MSC Meraviglia.  They were denied docking due to fear that passengers on board had the Corona virus  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8059197/Cruise-ship-crew-pepper-spray-brawling-passengers-feared-mutiny.html

I’m on board as well and wasn’t aware of it.  However, with virtually everyone having the premium beverage package I’ve observed LOTS of “happy” passengers.  A few are bound to go too far, and turn not so happy.

 

Having a great cruise so far from our perspective.

Thanks for you input siestation. Have you missed any ports yet? Has the ship been denied docking at any ports?

I was on Encore 2/9 -16 and also experienced quite a few folks that had over indulged, which is easy to do when it's basically free. I enjoy my drinks as much as anyone but I also know my limits, as an adult we should correct? However being a bartender for almost 20 years there are a lot of folks that cannot control themselves when it comes to their level of consumption so it is up to the staff to do it for them. I realize the amazing bar staff on Encore does not want confrontation but there has to be a better way to control this type of behavior. My opinion is whoever started this mess gets dropped off at PR and find their own way home. Tough/expensive lessons learned.

This strikes a nerve with me for some reason.  People blame alcohol for this type of behavior.  Just about everyone has a drink package these days.  I don’t see fights breaking out among a bunch of passengers all the time.

 

The issue sits squarely On the shoulders to these idiots who for some reason believe common decorum does not apply to them.  I find they’re jackasses sober and that intensifies when they’re drunk.

 

Don’t blame the cruise lines.  Don’t blame the drinks.  Blame these idiots for being....well...idiots.

 

BTW...just returned from a Carnival Cruise.  Talking to a bartender there, she said over 95% of the adult passengers has a drink package.  So, nearly everyone has the package on these cruises, regardless of which cruise line.

I agree. I always see drink packages being blamed for this kind of behavior. Literally THOUSANDS of people are cruising every day with drink packages and these types of incidents are incredibly rare. Also, you don't need a drink package to get irresponsibly drunk. It happens in bars on shore all the time where people are paying per drink...
