Really simple. Fry of a selection mushrooms cut into fairly large chunks (in a small amount of olive oil and butter) until they have lost a lot of the moisture, add in a couple of cloves of crushed garlic and cook that off.

 

Add a generous glug of Sherry to the hot mixture and cook off the alchol. Then leave to chill / then refrigerate.

 

They are always much better the next day as the flavour of the garlic and Sherry seeps into them. Nice to put out along with olives etc for snacks.

Drink is not the problem, it's the people .

I once went into our local wine  store and got arrested all because of a simple misunderstanding.

When the lady at the cash  register said "strip down and  facing me,"

it turns out she was talking about my credit card.

Sometimes rules can be just too inflexible to the point of being just silly. While I do think I look ok for my age there is no doubt I am old enough to buy alcohol ( by very, very, many years)

I used to work at Sainsbury’s 20 years ago, luckily we didn’t have to ask absolutely everyone for ID but I so hated asking young people. It was so hard to judge. Worse were the groups of 5 or so young men on a Saturday night. Many a time I asked the one paying for his ID and all his mates would fall about laughing and shouting “he’s 23”! 
The good thing was joking with the obviously much older ones “ do I need to ask for your ID” 😆

I must admit I sometimes feel a bit guilty buying 24 bottles of wine in Tesco when they have their 25% discount offer. I normally make sure to buy some broccoli at the same time, to show that I have a healthy diet.

I don’t hold out much hope  for the Covid vaccine with my GP. Had a text from them yesterday offering me a flu jab. I had it 29th October through my work. I phoned them up to inform them I’d had it and also to ask if they would make an appointment for my husband who is now 60. She was a bit narky and said they hadn’t been informed! She also wouldn’t book my husband in as he’s not over 65. I said I thought you could have them over 55 this year. Apparently he’s not on their list, he’s too healthy. Poor John he’s worked throughout this, got all our food shopping and my Mum and Dad’s and can’t even get a flu jab!

Our daughter’s 40 now but even in her late 30s used to get asked to provide ID for alcohol purchases. And loved it!

 

When she was teaching, she once got challenged near the school by a truancy officer and asked why she wasn’t at school.  Loved that too!

I drove.

Pauline popped into her gov office with envelopes with money in for collections for staff leaving then we got a couple of Mcmuffins and coffee from McDonald's and now looking out to sea,48f and cloudy.

Paulines small Clio is in the garage and she only feels comfortable driving that.

This year, all the 50-64 year olds are supposed to be able to get a free flu jab, and the vaccines are supposed to be available from 1st December.

 

I’m currently monitoring my GP’s web site as the tend to put dates of flu clinics on the web site. I wouldn’t trust them to contact me about this. None of the pharmacies round here are taking internet booking for the flu jab, but I’ve got to go to the local shopping centre soon, so I’ll go in Boots and ask if they are taking appointments in person.

 

However, I’m not 100% confident that I’ll be able get the free flu jab (I’m 60 like your husband)

I did say to these people they’ll be grateful one day! Obviously she has good genes Harry 😉

Ive just put on “This Morning “ while I browse this (don’t judge me!) You can tell I’m a bit emotional today as I caught the end of a phone in on being lonely  and there was a lovely lady in Devon who lives alone and lost her dog a few weeks ago. She said she would just love to have a chat with someone. Well by the end they were putting her in touch with people who lived locally and wanted to go on a walk with her. Silly emotional woman that I am it made me cry!

At the moment my varifocals help  me to read etc but my Epiretinal Membrane needs peeling as it got worse within 3 weeks of seeing 2 seperate specialists who both said it needs removing otherwise blurring will get a lot worse.

She loves to talk to everyone but especially likes old people.

Her mam died 2 years ago aged 96.

At least you're still doing ok at the moment and once this short lockdown is over you may be able to get it done soon.

That’s what I said to her, I thought over 50’s. She did say it wouldn’t be til December for him, that is a bit late for flu season but I suppose they judge him as healthy but it’s just the way she said it. Very snappy, she was most indignant I’d already had it, I would have said “thanks for letting us know” . I often find doctors receptionists not as nice as the GP’s themselves. I’m going to walk down to my local chemist in a bit, and if there’s no queue outside, see if they’ll do him one.

Alcohol doesn't happen in the rest of the UK. You have to open the bottle. Do they sell booze in your supermarkets? incase visitors from outside the Principality fancy a tipple?.🤔

Aww I bet if she lived in Devon she would have walked with her. I talk to a lot of older people in my job and when I look at their notes I’m sometimes surprised by their ages! I have quite a laugh with them. Some are well into their 80’s and sound about 60. Some bless them, sound terrible and breathless and are only 50!

It never fails to comfort me, the goodness in people. We're constantly hearing all about the negativity during this crisis and yet vary rarely do you hear about the good works that others are doing.

Apropos of nothing at all on this thread - I have just had a delivery from DHL (I think the first I have had) and I was 137 on his delivery list!  He left wherever at 8 a.m., and arrived here  at 7 p.m.  In his shorts!  I hope I was near the end of his list, strikes me as a lot of work for a chap for one day?  And presumably has quite a long drive back.  

My son worked for Amazon for a while, he likes driving and liked the independence of being out on the road being almost his own boss. However the hours were appalling and there were no special lunch breaks, he’d munch a sandwich between drops and knew where all the toilets were on his route. 
 

A couple of months ago he changed his nice cushy job at Sainsbury’s to move to being a delivery driver for Sainsbury’s. The money is better and he works shifts but it’s not as bad as Amazon, he often left home at 7am and didn’t get home until 9pm- 11pm! Also he had to keep the van outside our house, bet that pleased our neighbours!
