Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

Drove to Lincolnville yesterday (near cute little town of Camden), to look at a house for sale.  Umm...nope..yuck!   Definitely staged pictures.  🤪

Driving back north, enjoyed lunch at one of our favorite little touristy fishing towns, Belfast.

Drove further north following the Penobscot Bay to where it is still a river.  Geo lesson:  Penobscot river, totaled with it's West and South branches is the longest river in Maine, dissecting the state to become that mighty Bay.  At the "Narrows" in Bucksport, one of my favorite bridges.  Single suspension span, makes it unusual and beautiful looking.

You got to drive over the new bridge.
we always had to use the old 1931 bridge, narrow and shaky and very high.
We worried about it collapsing under us, so it was a relief when the new bridge was built.

Tell me your secret, you always post such yummy looking food porn on your holidays.

I've got two months to lose my lockdown weight before my sons wedding and so far everything is a big fail

Willpower, and lots of low carbs.  No bread or potatoes, but once in a while you have to make exceptions.  Like today!!!

We traveled to a Strawberry festival today where there was lots of “fair food”.  Had to try a gyro.

And it took all my willpower to not buy some of the fresh, Amish donuts.  They smelled so good, and they were almost the size of life preservers.

There were a few alpacas in a pen, with some things made from their fur for sale.

There were plenty of vendors, live music, and no masks in sight.

Sunday we'll take our first vacation in almost 2 years....

Our DS2 and DIL "invited" us to join them [and, incidentally, baby sit] for a 3 nights stay in a kibbutz, on the southern shores of the Sea of Galilee.

I really hate to pay the exorbitant prices (350$ room + b'fast per night for very basic accommodations), but no other alternatives for this summer.... Should we travel abroad [where?] as a family, the grandkids would have to be quarantined for 2 weeks.

All the hotels and rooms across the country are fully booked for the following months, and add to that the hugely disappointed 50K people who booked the Odyssey -- left without an alternative....

I hope you and your family have a wonderful vacation.  You deserve it🥰

Especially after living through the attacks and lockdown, how wonderful for you and your family to experience normalcy in such beautiful surroundings.

Was that you, I wasnt sure who was waving.

Have fun in AC.  Good luck🤩

My friend/ex-boss has a beach house on LBI.

I'm sorry I never took her up on her invitation before I moved to Texas.

I relayed the parking space and price conversation to Bill.  He was shocked, as many of us are that don't live in big urban cities. Like others, it does make us even more appreciate our suburban driveways and garages. WOW.

Even though we are all cruisers and <mostly> holiday travelers, it is fascinating to learn about the nuances of everyday life in other countries. It is really interesting and greatly appreciated. :classic_biggrin:

We got lucky and had the chance to pay £30000 for a parking space.

That is crazy expensive.  Do you own it for all time?  Or is that an annual fee?

In Tel-Aviv it should be a steal.... A parking place in your name is between 185K and 230K.....😢

😵Wow that is crazy for a parking space.

Sadly, it is.

Most of Tel Aviv is old buildings, without parking.

BUT, Tel-Aviv is also the real capital of Israel, in terms of work places.

Lots of people from the surrounding [sleeping] cities travel to Tel-Aviv in the morning.

Add to that -- we don't have a metro/mass transit transportation. Train stations are poorly situated and if you don't arrive at sunset, no parking available. 2-3 cars per family are a must...

Moreover, the public transportation doesn't work from Friday afternoon until Saturday evening and religious holidays, just the right time when you'll want to visit family and friends or parks or sea.

Covid -- if before people were car pooling, or traveling when possible by bus/train, now they're wary of letting others in their car, or afraid of catching it when trains and buses are crowded.

Start up nation cum laws from more than 5000 years ago....

...

I so get that fear.  When I was in UK last week I had to travel via train through the centre of Birmingham.  There were so many people on the train and platform.  The lift to the platform which in COVID measures was said to only take one person or family was full, about 1/4 of the people I saw were not wearing masks.  I was so stressed by it all.

As soon as I got to my parents’ house I showered and put all the clothes I was wearing to the wash.  My parents are vaccinated and of course so am I, but it did not stop me feeling fearful of public transport.

Birmingham New Street is a main Train station and Hub so is always extremely busy but some people just did not think they should socially isolate and why the UK had so many covid19 deaths.
