On Royal you can smoke while your gambling, but on Carnival, at least on the Pride last year, folks sit in the middle of the casino, tables and chairs provided and smoke up storm making it really bad.

On RC smokers can sit it the casino without gambling! RCs casinos are smoking lounges that allows gambling.

From studies yrs ago, similar studies linked Bars with Smoking/Drinking. Info outdated as Banned Smoking in Casinos now bring in more money instead of less. This is true in Land and Ship Casinos

Agree. Cruise multiple Royal 10-16niters every yr. Once a sailing while Fueling up the only place on Ship Smoking allowed is in Casino. Even when not Fueling and Casino is Closed it's the inside Smoking Lounge. Until few yrs ago Smoking in Casino was Banned on the 2-3 Formal Nites.

It seems like for the past 10 years people have been complaining about smoking in the casino. And yet, Royal still allows it.

Now, with Royal desperate to attract customers, they will not alienate the 15%-17% of the population that still smokes.

Let's discuss in another 10 years.

The Allure’s casino had smoking and non-smoking sections.  There was a lot of people in the non smoking section when I was there so I’m sure banning smoking will attract non-smokers alike.

Even though I don't smoke anymore, I still hang out in the smoking section. Smokers just seem to be more friendly, outgoing, and willing to be more social. Maybe it's because they are already considered to be the outcasts of society while relegated to the outdoors in the rain, snow, sleet and a small corner of society.

No such thing as a non smoking section (kinda like the non peeing side of the hot tub)

There are certain areas designated in the Allure casino as non smoking.

I remember the same worries about restaurants and bowling alleys and even bars.    We are going to lose money.  They are doing fine relative to that general business market.

The problem has always been nobody wanted to do it first because they were the customer would go across the street.  Once it became a city, and/or state regulation it evened the playing field.

Cruise ships live outside those regulations and are slower at changing.

I can definitely say my wife and I purposefully walk different floors to avoid the casino.  They will never get a drop of my change until they change.

Hot Tub/Pee-ople Soup. Never been my thing. Over the last 30+ yrs would park myself one Deck up from Pool to watch the Activities, People and to Sun. Many times witnessed "Relations" happening in the Hot Tub. Nothing new as remember back in early 80's when the Hot Tub places to rent were popular with available rooms to rent at 30 or 60 minutes...for Nooner's. Guess cheaper then Motel and most didnt need one for whole day....

Until there is a government mandate that indoor smoking areas are no longer permitted, not much will change.

As noted by others, it seems to work in Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

I worked in the casino industry fro many years, and when the smoking ban came in for land based casinos in Australia, it was all doom and gloom. How many do you think have gone bust and closed down in the 20ish years since smoking was banned?

While I don't believe this will happen, I would likely spend more time in the casino if it were smoke-free.

There is no smoking inside any ship sailing out of Australia

We were on RCCL ships for 5 weeks this past winter.  The casinos were filled with smokers day and night who were NOT gambling.

As all ships should be. The day is coming.

Of course the day is coming. That's what they said 20 years ago and things are changing. Albeit slowly, but things are changing.

Smoking laws and attitudes are changing. Not as fast as some wish they would, however,,, it's a societal change not an individuals wishes.

I would bet it could be another 10 to 20 years before land based casinos  and cruise ships are 100% smoke free.

I agree. I used to smoke. Quit in 2000. I wish there were more areas that prohibit smoking. My company, made all campus locations no smoking. If you wanted to smoke, you had to leave the property. Some locations it was brutal. It was the best thing to happen to me.

Ewww....agree.  I never use the pool, or even worse...the hot tub.  I call it "bacteria soup".  😉
