Am I crazy to book a 4 day cruise in October?

I just got my new Carnival Players club offers and I can book a, as I like to call a booze cruise, since I live only an hour away from Long Beach I was looking at the 4 day Ensenada and Catalina in October for my Birthday, and I can get $250 OBC drinks on us in the Casino and a few more things for just under $500 for 2 in an oceanview cabin. I'd only be risking $100 for the deposit and I could always cancel and get FCC... just wanted to bounce some thoughts off some fellow CC'ers and see if this quarantine is making me crazy or not...

west coast is iffy, florida/texas i would and did also book the players club deals.

I am waiting to see what protocols are in place before booking anything. A mask is a no go for air/hotel/cruise. Social distancing is a no go for me on cruise ships. Covid is spread thru the air at least that is what the experts are saying. You get it thru breathing, and possibly thru ears and open skin like cracks, bites. Try burning a bag of popcorn in a microwave, open it, and stand 7 feet away. Smell anything. Try 20 yards and you will still smell it. LOL. Not saying a virus is totally similar but 6 feet is not go to stop it.

I have read, somewhere, that there are some sailings from California ports have been cancelled for the remainder of 2020. San Francisco comes to mind, but not sure of the others, BUT there are others. Maybe not through 2020, but well into the fall/winter.

 

So I say, tread carefully.

I got a last minute players club offer with 100 OBC and drinks on us. Booked a 4 day followed by a 5 day for just under 500 with the 200 OBC. 4 day was 35pp and 5 day 25pp. Its in September and out of Tampa. Its a chance I just had to take. Go figure I would finally get a decent casino offer during a crisis.

My October cruise is six months off. I am not worried. I do know that that a face mask and standing 6 feet apart is a feel good directive that has a wee bit of science that has been built into a wall of liturgy that you must follow blindly as an article of faith.

 

Hopefully this madness will be over by then.

If there is a vaccine by then (doubtful), then you might be able to enjoy this super-cheap booze cruise.  Otherwise it will be a super-dangerous super cheap booze cruise.  Maybe the alcohol will make you immune?  At least you have the option to cancel without penalty, so why not?

I  looked at the 4 days out of Long Beach for October because the prices are good- though still  have to fly in.

 

I’ve decided to wait until they actually open up ports  in Mexico 

Same for Europe- I have my eye on a transatlantic in November, but I have a feeling that Europe may not open to cruiselines till next year

I think some cruises could be going in October. No idea if California cruises will be part of it but At least you don’t have to fly and risk airfare too. I would book only if you are ok with the following:

 

1. The cruise getting cancelled

2. the cruise getting quarantined and you being stuck onboard for a couple weeks

3. The cruise having extra precautions in place and there being venues closed and/or required masks.

 

from my point of view, until cruises start going and we see what they look like, any booking is a risk where you aren’t sure what product you are purchasing. But some people have to be guinea pigs for the first sailings so I would only book if you are ok with that being you.

I'm going in October but out of Galveston, a bit different than calif. But I plan on cruising then. 

 

I wish i had a couple more cancelled cruises to get big obc on, but just the one, but I plan on going and yes I'm over 65 so high risk. I need to see sunshine and ocean.

I’m also rebooked on an October 4 day cruise and got $300 obc added to the already $500 obc plus free drinks and can’t wait...not sure if or how the social distancing will work in the casino.  Cheers and good luck.

I was thinking about October to re-book my July sailing. But decided to just move it to August 2021. Hopefully that

won't get cancelled..lol

You're not crazy.  We booked for October and November and can't wait.  The chances I'll die from the idiot drivers in my hometown is a lot greater than from a Coronavirus.

Well after the weekend of talk with the Wife we decided to put a Deposit down, the price was great and my casino promo was good as well, and since we are close by and almost always take this sailing every year if it gets cancelled we will have no problem rescheduling or taking one last minute.. only time will tell, Can't wait to get back cruising!

We've just added the 5 day Cabo cruise out of San Diego for Nov 9 to our list, hopefully we are good to go then, if not we'll move it to another time... love the $600 obc we have now!

We booked out of Galveston for Sept 14 on the Dream. We are in our 60's and not worried other than could get cancelled but Carnival is starting back up Aug 1 so shall see then what is happening.

We're booked on the Freedom on Sept.13. I will be 73 and the wife 71. We are not concerned at all. If it cancels, we simply rebook. If it sails as planned, then great! FunShip special, here I come!  🍹
