And he was never censored by Trump.  He's not the type of person who would ever allow himself to be censored.

The previous administration banned him from appearing on certain television shows.  In my world, that's being censored.

It appears to me that this topic is beginning to delve into a political state.  In an effort to return to the target topic, I pose the following questions:

When do you believe major cruise lines (i.e. RCCL, NCL, Carnival, Princess, etc.) will make a decision if vaccines will, or won't be, mandatory?

Which line do you believe will be first and why do you think that line will be first?

Interested to hear what others think.

Thanks.   No idea but I hope that they decide soon.  My next cruise is October.  Final payment July.   Decisions soon please.  Will not book plane tix until I know we are going somewhere.

I understand!  Our next cruise is supposed to be May 1 out of Italy.  If it is going to sail (which I personally doubt), I need to purchase plan tickets as the TA we were originally going to take to get there in April was cancelled.  This not knowing is frustrating for me!

The other question is will we able to do a b2b.  Our cruise is 11nts out of Southampton followed by a TA arriving in the US in late October, before the November 1st cdc deadline.

It depends on when the CDC allows cruises to restart. At this point It appears that a significant amount of the US population will be vaccinated or eligble to be vacinated by the time cruises can restart. There are also four or five digital covid vaccination certificates being tested near completion. A OK, Common Pass, IBM has one. So I expect they probably will require vaccination.

Which cruise line do you believe will be first to publicly state vaccines are required?

I think it will depend on what the CDC allows in the beginning. If the CDC doesn’t make it mandatory and the cruise lines do I think it will be Norwegian. As to why I think it will be Norwegian, I can’t answer that. Not really sure why, but Royal seems to be a follower instead of a leader.

If it does come down to that happening, it seems to me that Princess might be the first because of their demographic, which overall I think would be the most receptive to a vaccine required rule and all of the bad press they had last spring - maybe HAL also, if we're not requiring the rule to be rolled out all at once for Carnival Corp.

Your post made me think about how the demographics of who the cruise line appeals to (or markets) may be an interesting influence on the lines decision to require a vaccine or not.

Saga cruises in UK have already said that as I believe have American Queen/Victory in USA.

Don't know when but I believe whatever the policy is it will be basically the same for all the major lines.  I can't see one line say allowing unvaccinated kids while all others require them for everyone.

I would hypothesis that the test cruises will happen with CDC approval in June with everyone on board having to be vaccinated.  Depending upon how things go on those cruises will then determine if the short cruises that hopefully would start around Labor Day because of the 60 day waiting period stipulated by the CDC need to be 100% vaccinated or not.  I agree with Molly that it will probably be an all or nothing thing.  Once one of the lines makes policy, the others will follow suit.

I think that Royal will be the first to determine the policy, but since they were already in a fact finding partnership with NCL, it could be a joint decision and then Carnival, MSC and the others would fall into line.

I could even see them doing like some line that I don't recall.  Either a negative test OR a vaccine  Not that that is a perfect answer but it would allow children to cruise as long as they test negative.  Just guessing

Saga cruises (a UK company for the over 50’s) have stated you will only be able to travel if you have had both vaccines:

https://travel.saga.co.uk/travel-updates/cruise-coronavirus-vaccine.aspx

For anyone not yet familiar......

Saga Cruises has two 'ocean' ships (Spirit of Discovery = 999 guests, Spirit of Adventure - 999 guests) with all balcony cabins.  They are a relatively new (first ship 2019) to the ocean cruise market.

From their website:

""We have taken the decision to introduce the requirement that all guests must be fully vaccinated against COVID‑19 at least 14 days before sailing with us. This new measure will be in addition to the detailed arrangements we have already made in preparation for our return to service, which have been recognised and led to us being the first operator to receive the highest possible standard of health and safety protocols from Lloyd’s Register.

In order to allow our guests sufficient time to be fully vaccinated, we have decided to delay the restart of our cruise programme which was due to commence on 3rd April with Spirit of Discovery. Instead our programme will begin with Spirit of Adventure’s inaugural voyage on 4th May and our Secrets of Corsica and Sardinia cruise aboard Spirit of Discovery will now sail on the 2nd June. We will be contacting all guests affected to discuss their options."

What do others think.....does the size of the ship or the number of the ships in the fleet influence the vaccine decision?

I think that Saga's decision was done because of the age of their clientele (50+ mandatory), instead of the fact that they have only 2 ships in their fleet or that they each hold 1,000 passengers.

Thank you very much for that brilliant observation.

But then again, what about those who refuse to wear masks or get vaccinated like yourself?

I wear a mask when asked since that's the state rule. That doesn't mean masks work and just about every single data set during covid shows masks do not work.

I'll get vaccinated when it's available. That doesn't mean I think RC would waste their time requiring all people get an unapproved vaccine that isn't available for all people.

Follow the science, not the fear.

Just do what you’re told, no need for you to agree with anything as long as you’re compliant.

I looked at Crystal's mask policy.  Here is what the website states:

"Responsive Mask Policy

To best safeguard the health of the entire Crystal family, we will keep our mask policy nimble. We will constantly be reassessing mask policies in light of evolving best practices recommended by epidemiologists as well as compliance with the policies of local governments.

  • Guests will be required to wear masks during Crystal’s organized airport and hotel transfers
  • Crystal will provide masks to guests and crew
  • Masks will be required in venues and instances where proper distancing is not possible, including show lounges, casino, fitness center, elevators, ship tenders, shoreside terminals and tour dispatch areas
  • Crystal will comply with all local health authorities, which may require masks ashore."

Here is the vaccine policy:

"A Declaration of Safety

Your promise to us is your Declaration of Safety via Crystal’s secure, online portal, Priority Check-In and Planning Center (PCPC). When you sign your Declaration of Safety, you're giving us a true picture of your health and telling Crystal exactly what you need to travel in confidence and safety.

  • New for 4.0: All guests will be required to be fully inoculated with a COVID-19 vaccine (both doses if recommended by manufacturer) at least 14 days prior to boarding any Crystal ship. Verified documentation and/or evidence of vaccination will be required at the time of boarding and failure to provide this documentation will result in denial of boarding. All documentation provided will need to be in English. Please visit our Advisory Alerts page for more information on the COVID-19 vaccine requirements including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). "

Crystal has 2 ocean ships.  Serenity has 980 guests and Symphony has 848 guests.  Their market is an older guest.

Do you believe cruise lines with smaller ships and/or older guest demographic have a different stance than cruise lines with larger ships on whether to require the vaccine or not?
