Nope.

Part of the problem is the frustrating disconnect between what one person says, and what another person SAYS that person said. Ex: My wife wants to go to dinner, and I mention that my friend John said Restaurant X has the best pizza in the world. We go there, and my wife doesn't like the pizza and then blames me because "you said this place had the best pizza." No, I didn't, I said my friend JOHN said it was the best pizza. So when Politician X says "a Michigan legislator who had COVID-19 told me that HCQ cured her, I don't know if it's true, but that's what she said," the media leaves out the 3rd party aspect of the claim and runs with "Politician X says HCQ is a miracle cure!!!" And all the public gets out of this is what the media said. Context is everything. And sorry, but it ain't my fault if you claim I said something that I didn't. That's on you. (not you personally, @Formula280SS)

Yep, I agree.  I just forget who I heard if from that said our vaccination (developed and approved in Warp Speed 😉 and no, not by the Space Force 🤣) roll out was the worst.  And it's true you know because that's what "everyone knows."

agree to disagree.. apologies for going off topic regarding cruising.. Im done with this line of thought.

Hopefully cruising starts sooner rather than later with the proper protocols

Yes, apologies for going off topic, as well. Sometimes I have to remind myself that CC isn't my personal soapbox. 😆😁🤣

In terms of whether masks are actually beneficial?? Back in April the WHO website noted that masks for those without specific training would likely do more harm than good due to bacterial contamination. I still don't know where the science for 'mask saves lives' came from, for the general public.

For years, "experts" were saying the world is flat.  Do you still believe that to be true?  SMH.

Here the CDC say as of midnight tomorrow, masks will be needed to be worn on all cruise ships. This is GOOD news in my opinion as it shows they are finding ways to get the cruise industry moving.

Soon ❤️

Agreed good news

I am hoping to cruise when I DON'T have to wear a mask....I hope that this December's cruise is postponed.  I reeeeaaaly want to cruise when it's back to normal  sigh

The other thing to remember is that mask use on cruise ships will be part of each cruise line's application for a conditional sailing permit under the CDC framework.  They must have a social distance and mask plan that is very specific, and exercise it on the test cruise.  The commercial transportation order is very blanket and meant for short-term transport, and does not have the details that can cover a hotel on the water.

I have avoided going to expensive restaurants during covid due to it being a strained experience with temperature checks, mask wearing, wondering if people around me are sick, etc. We just get take out or dine in at a  pizza place on off hours. To me it is not worth spending hundreds of dollars and being uncomfortable. I can't imagine spending thousands of dollars on a ship where I can't get off feeling the same way and wearing a mask anytime I am out of my cabin.  However I will add that now that vaccinations are here it will help with the unease a bit. We have a cruise planned for Sept. 2022. We will cancel if the mask wearing is still in place. Not because we don't believe in masks. We believe in spending our money carefully based on the experience we think we will have.

Further to your excellent post Peachypooh, a very significant limiting factor for me is what will the product actually be - ie how much downgrading will there be with the increased prices.

If people remember back a year CC was awash in posts about constant downgrading of all cruise line product. Now add in their debt loads, I do not believe the food, service levels will be anything like we remember.

So until there is a good body of consistent assessment of the cruise product, I am not putting any $ down on cruising.

However, I will do land trips and trains.

I would bet that even with vaccines, masks will still be required for the foreseeable future. This excludes Texas of course, because Texans don't want anything to do with the rest of the country, just like their electricity.

Big mistake for Texas to drop mask mandate at this time.  Despite this,  most schools and businesses in  our area are at least trying to encourage people to wear masks.  Having said this,  over the last few weeks I have increasingly noticed more people wandering around carelessly without masks.  Not much you can do about it unless you want to provoke a fight.  Unfortunately I am seeing more and more older people not wearing masks that should know better.

Even though my wife and I have received first shot and will receive second in a couple of weeks we both will be wearing masks for now.  There is too much evidence of masks making a difference in stopping the spread of COVID and saving lives to ignore. For the sake of getting this pandemic behind us and if for no other reason so we can start cruising again, would everybody please continue or start wearing a mask.

My previous post was "tongue in cheek". Another poster, @GA Dave posted that he was going to continue to wear a mask (after being vaccinated) until the vaccine(s) are readily available to everybody in the U.S. President Biden has said this will happen by end of May (I think it may happen even sooner).

I agree with @GA Dave. Even after I get vaccinated, I will continue to wear my mask so that I won't infect other people who have not yet had the opportunity to get the vaccine. When everyone has the opportunity to get vaccinated, I'll stop wearing the mask (imo, Texas should've done the same). People who choose not to get the vaccine, choose to take the associated risk; it's on them.

I live in a state where for now there is a mask mandate. Most days 100 percent of

people  I see  outside do not wear them. Around  fifty percent do not wear them

inside in stores, etc. The only places I see total compliance are medical facilities.

That's because they just won't let you in and most people want to get their medical

care so they comply.

We have a mask mandate up here in Michigan, as well. There's been pretty much 100% compliance from what I've seen. I did see someone without a mask in CVS just recently though. I do find it odd to see people driving in their car with no one else with them, with a mask on.

At our local hospital where I’m treated, if you turn up even in a N95 mask, they will ask you to remove it and use medical grade masks supplied.

I experienced this as well when I went to a medical specialist's office. I had to take my mask off and replace it with one of theirs.

Mask mandates, government imposed lock-downs, climate change, religion, and individual tastes in general.  These are all topics with arguments for and against on both sides.  Does a porous cloth mask really protect anyone from COVID-19 (or any other disease)?  There is hard scientific data that demonstrably proves it does not, yet many see it as the holy grail to resolving this pandemic.  A wealth of data shows conclusively that states (and other countries) that did not impose general or selective lock-downs did no worse than those that did, and in many cases did much better.  Many don't even know the difference between climate and weather, and would conclude the highly unseasonable weather in Texas last month was the result of global warming.  Christian vs. Muslim, Buddhist vs. Protestant, Jew vs. ... I'm not even going to go there.  Finally, a saying in the Dutch language states "over smaak valt niet te twisten," which for those not fluent in Dutch means there is little use in arguing over ones tastes (or beliefs).

Personally I subscribe to a philosophy of Freedom, independence and liberty with an absence of undue restrictions and an opportunity to exercise one's rights and powers, i.e., self-reliance.  I'm fully vaccinated so if I'm to believe all the hype we've been fed by the likes of Dr. Fauchi and others, that protects me from having any significant reaction to the virus (even if exposed), and thus wearing a mask or "social distancing" are 'beliefs' that I no longer hold.  It amazes me that people believe that COVID-19 is more infectious after 10:00 PM and thus the bar must close by then.  Or that when the virus sees a plexiglass panel, it doesn't somehow knows not to float around it.  Anyone ever study aerodynamics out there?  And I have a really hard time understanding how it is safe to sit inches apart in an aluminum tube flying over the Earth (note - I'm a pilot and flew professionally for 15 years), but it is somehow unsafe to sit on an open, windswept deck, sipping a piña colada.  So debate if you will whether the CDC (a politically led organization) really knows what's best.  I will continue to champion independence and the ability to stand alone, exercising personal freedom.

Individual businesses can still require masks be worn. Restaurants have had a "no shirt, no shoes, no service" mantra for years and years and years. The can add, no mask no service to that mantra.

Here in Florida, there has not been a mask mandate. Where I live in Florida, most local businesses  had and still have requested masks be worn inside their establishments. This includes but is not inclusive of grocery store, retail stores, box stores and gyms, These establishments often do not enforce their mask rules but, for the most part, our local citizens continue to mask up and distance. Employees of most of these establishments continue to wear masks. I thank our local establishments for keeping their employees and patrons safe, even without a mask mandate from the governor.

Why bother even having a mask mandate if 50% of people do not wear masks indoors? Is it because establishment do not want confrontations from those obstinate people who refuse to follow the mandate?

I am of this belief as well. If you look at what happened, followed the playbook from the 1960s, you can see how quickly the populace can be controlled. There is no conspiracy argument about it. It was written in the 60s, you can check the boxes exactly how the media and government followed it, and you can see how easily an entire nation can be controlled.
