Please sell me on Quantum Class

Recommended Posts

I’m looking at an Australian cruise this December on the Ovation. This is the first time I’ve ever looked at a cruise on a Quantum Class ship. And something about the ship just leaves me cold. I’ve read reviews, looked at videos and nothing is grabbing me. This is an emotional feeling, there’s nothing practical I can point to.

Any fans of these ships willing to tell me what they love (or even like) about them?

Note: Some of you may be tempted to tell me the point is moot as this cruise will undoubtably be cancelled. While I appreciate your good intentions, don’t. Indulge my fantasies and let me dream 🙂

We enjoyed the Anthem, went on her ten times.   We prefer Oasis class but the quantum class is different which is good for a change of pace.  They are more geared toward cold weather, so a lot of indoor space.  It’s a cruise, can’t go wrong!

Why would I sell you on a Quantum class cruise?  What's in it for me?  Nothing.

Now I happen to like the Quantum class.  Love the Solarium, and the concierge lounge is amazing.  So stay off, so the rest of us can enjoy.

Sailed on Anthem...loved the CL (what they called it then)...didn't like 270 venue at all for Park Cafe dining. It needs to have it's own eating area....this was a big mistake to expect people to eat in there.

A couple of high top tables wasn't enough so people sat everywhere. JMHO...I love Park Cafe on Oasis class ships....great set up.

Oh well, I differ.  Not fond of Oasis but love Quantum class ships.  Found 270 to be a great venue...love the roast beef sandwiches.   Interesting event venue.  Lots of great places to eat and lots of entertainment.  Fun on the bumper cars!  Took 3 days on Oasis to find made to order omelets.   WJ is too small on Oasis.  But each of us has a favorite, which is ok.  Each of us our favorites but mostly we like to cruise.

That's why there are choices.   Also like the Solarium pool on Quantum better than Oasis.   Not completely closed on Oasis so a problem if weather is a problem.

So I'll need to take my roast beef sandwich and salad somewhere else...that's not very convenient.....When we tried to eat there (270) the tables were full of discarded food and plates...Yuck !!!

We have sailed on Anthem quite a few times. Love the ship! We have grabbed a quick breakfast or snack in 270. It’s a great place in the evening. We always go see Spectras Cabaret!  There are lots of fun activities. The pools are geared to cooler weather which is when we sail. The food is great. We go to Windjammer often, but this venue will change now I’m sure. We usually have dinner in Coastal Kitchen and it’s beautiful.
I can’t think of anything we don’t enjoy on this beautiful ship.

Above is my Alaskan review which Twangster and others also shared.

Two70, the amazing Solarium, views from everywhere... much much better than Radiance Class, Seaplex is phenomenal, the Music Hall is great for show venue, the WJ is (was pre-Covid) the very best in fleet by a mile, CL (now SL?) also the very best in the fleet, North Star, iFly, Trapeze school, roller skating, bumper cars, innovative technology & presentations at night in Two70, plenty of food options,....

not much to like.... (sarcasism). 😉

What ships have you previously sailed on?  And your likes/dislikes with those ships?

My only "issue" with Quantum class is the poor design of the Royal Esplanade ... it's a bottleneck.

I’m a Voyager/Freedom class guy. They just feel right to me. Perhaps it’s the balance of stuff/space/people. The small ships have charm; the Oasis ships have the Wow. I didn’t see the “hook” for Quantum, which is why I was asking. Thanks to everyone for the answers so far.

We have sailed on most ships from the Zenith at 47,413 GT to the monsters and love them all.

We have always been able to find what we liked on each ship and that goes for the several cruises we have taken on the Anthem.

Some crowding when they have those dumb sales but like the 270 (no big deal for us) it is easily avoided..

We currently have two future Anthem cruises booked.

Crew, food, staterooms, service, entertainment, casino and bars and lounges are all very good.

I actually agree with everything that you wrote here. I, too, appreciate the responses.

Quantum class is like a bastard child of RCI and X.  Still, it is my second favorite class behind Oasis.

I have sailed on both Anthem and Ovation and I still prefer the Oasis or Freedom class of ship.  Quantum class does have some good points like 270 and the solarium.  Also, North Star gives you a unique view of the ship.

Sailed on the Ovation from Hong Kong to Sydney (42 days) and enjoyed every minute.  Loved the seaplex, 270, and our favorite...the IFly.  The concierge lounge, deck 12 aft, is the best in the fleet with breathtaking views. During our sailing, there was a highly popular noodle bar in the windjammer.

Note: When we were sailing through Asia, the bars were empty but the casino was packed...the diamond lounge was turned into a "high roller" casino. As more Aussies and Kiwis boarded, the bars got crowded and the casino not so busy...the DL was put back. We love Sydney and looking forward to visiting again.

I think you will like the Quantum class, to me they are very similar, except there is so much more to do on the Quantum class.  If you are active you will love it.  I like the Royal Esplanade.  Yes it is smaller than the promenade, but it is more interesting as it curves around thru the ship.  However if you hate the Esplanade and love the Promenade, you should love an Oasis class ship.

Quantum is a pretty serious departure from what has been traditional RCG ship design from Vision class through Oasis -- initially, we found Anthem a bit disorienting. But once you get a feel for the ship layout and the many improvements and upgrades, it ends up being very appealing. We're taking it to the next level by sailing on Celebrity Edge in late August, which seems to take the same design ethos much further.
