I suspect with the backlog of flights the jet bridge operators & luggage conveyors were spread a bit thin...

I've heard the reason they shut down is some guy didn't like that he was going to be charged $60 for his luggage & he flipped his lid. Clearly he must have made threats for things to go that far. Not sure why security couldn't just haul his *ss out...but perhaps more to the story will unfold...

LOVING your trip report!!

Glad you’re enjoying it.  Kind of figures it’s about someone who thinks the world revolves around them.  He should be on the hook for anyone who missed a flight, missed a ride, missed a cruise.

Why was some lady on her knees screaming on the dock right off the gangplank?  This happened around 5pm. They escorted her away back into the terminal. Not sure if she returned to the ship.

I don’t know what happened, but we watched from our balcony, and could hear much of what she was saying. There were port officers, ship officers, and another officer in a green uniform with a big vest…we thought maybe homeland security? She was saying she changed purses, and was FaceTiming someone apparently at her house that had whatever document she didn’t have. The officers said nope and they brought out her luggage and her husband and his luggage. I imagine that was a bad ride home for her. That’s the stuff of nightmares, I felt so bad for her.

Wonder how she got to the dock by the gangway without the necessary documents?!  I would have thought you’d get no farther than the terminal building.

We were thinking the officers took her out of the terminal to avoid that scene with so many other passengers around, but that’s just a guess. Her husband had boarded.

No that’s the stuff that divorces are made of🤣🤣🤣🤣

And he had already boarded without his wife!!

Makes me think he knew there were going to be issues.

  • Back to the suites features: my paperwork says that we are in a S3 and we have the "magic windows". Huge balcony too.
  • About the "porn stars", you can't miss them. I will try to take a picture and post it, it's worth it. They are in a suite, we checked in at the same time but we have not seen them in the Retreat or Luminea.
  • Our concierge tells us about 60% of total capacity but with all suites full. It does not feel crowded.

I heard NO unvaxxed adults this time!

I hope that’s the case, and that CLIA gets the message that that’s the way the vast majority of their customers want to cruise for the time being.

We want the cruise industry to succeed, and fully-vaccinated cruises are an important tool to make sure it does.

May I ask what cabin you are in???  If you are not comfortable answering until after you are off the ship I completely understand.  As I mentioned in a previous post I have never sailed in a suite before but now considering it, so this is all new territory for me as to how to choose a suite (although I imagine they are all good locations!)

Weird…I have way more pictures on my iPhone (doing report on my iPad).  Can’t log in to Cruise Critic with my iPhone though.  It keeps saying my login information is incorrect.  HMMMMMMM!

I had the same problem on the Millennium, but I thought it was because I didn’t have the streaming plan. But you’re in a suite so that’s not the problem.

Others have been posting live though, so if you can figure out what’s going on, let us know.

Your iphone is most likely capitalizing the first letter of you password.  if there is an option to "show password" you can check that.

Whew…..let me get caught up.  Crazy day yesterday…..in a good way.  This post will likely be long.

First, flying…getting off the plane…getting through the airport….getting on the ship.

Yes…..flight was delayed out of CVG.  Something must have been amiss earlier as I got a ping on my phone stating my flight would be delayed before I even got to the airport.  Weather?  Nope!  A “security issue” at FLL.  Hmmmmmm…..

Looking at my back up flight plans, there were still seats on all of them.  So, if worse came to worst, I’m covered.

We were about 90 minutes late wheels up from the schedule.  But, wheels up we were.  Still should have put me at the pier by my scheduled check in time.  All’s good!

Until it wasn’t….landed and stopped short of taxiing to the gate.  10 minutes go by and the pilot states the “security issue” was still…well…an issue.  We would have to wait on the tarmac another 20 minutes.  30 minutes go by.  Pilot states it is an issue outside the gate (whatever that meant), and it will be another 20 minutes.  OK…I’m still in great shape.

TSA was called back to work, but it takes a while to get everyone back to their position.  In addition, there was a plane at our gate that they had to gather the passengers to load aboard.  OK….another 15 minutes go by.  The plane that was in our gate is pushed back.  But, not sure what happened to the gate agent who operates the loading bridge somehow disappeared between the removing the jet way for the departing plane, and operating it for us to deplane.  Huh??????  How’d that happen?   So, we wait while they find someone to operate the jet bridge.  You’re totally backed up and you can’t unload the plane that’s been waiting for 1+ hours that was already late? The airlines do everything within their power to confound their customers.  That hasn’t changed.  All due respect to those who work in the industry.

Then, they couldn’t find a conveyor to unload the baggage from the plane.  Double Huh……..??????

We’re finally off the plane after finding another jet bridge operator.  Headed into the terminal, it’s chaos.  Glad I’m going out, instead of coming in.  The outside area is even worse.  We landed in Terminal 2.   But, both terminal 2 and 3 is mass craziness with people trying to get in and us, trying to get out.  Can’t blame the airlines for that, though.   Maybe have a contingency plan for such events where stupid people become threatening people.

Time is kind of discombobulated at this juncture.  So, I think it was somewhere around 1:00-ish by this time?  Still in good shape.  Except….getting ground transportation to the pier.  UBER?  Fuhgedaboudit!  As I finally was spit out of the terminal, in the mass chaos, I saw a car with a “taxi” sign on top.  Squeezing through the crowd, I wave at it feverishly.  Taxi pulls over about 50 feet ahead, I do a semi jog with luggage in tow.  Drive asks where I’m going…”cruise terminal”.  I’m not supposed pick anyone up here.  I state he’s here….I’m here….he can wait behind all the other masses.  Or, we can make a quick get away.  Getaway it is.  Whoosh….we’re gone.

Have you ever thought of writing a book!!?? I loved this post and didn't want it to end!

Especially the word:   Fuhgedaboudit🤣

(Of course, the story might not have been as enjoyable if you never made it to the ship, so I'm glad you did!)

Thank you so much for the reply and pics.  I think (Lastdance please correct me if I misunderstood) the "magic window" referred to is the "window" that looks from the bathroom out over the room/balcony?

And my apologies....I should have specified when I said I work in health care......I am not a nurse.  I am a social worker with Oncology and Palliative Care patients working alongside our nurses.  And I certainly appreciate all that nurses do, even more so during this pandemic!

Enjoy your cruise and keep the observations/experiences coming  😊

Thank you for all that you do as a healthcare provider!

If  I am correct your cruise stops in Costa Maya.  We are on the Aug 7 sailing. I realize rules can change daily , if not hourly , but could you let us know what the excursion rules are there. We usually go to The Krazy Lobster.  Not so sure they will let us go that far. Thank you in advance. Love reading these reviews.

No problem…..10177. If I get a late night reveler knocking on my cabin door looking for porn girls, I made up that cabin number.

Thanks.  I guess I didn't realize that one unvaccinated adult causes the rest of the ship to wear wristbands.  Crazy.

Heard the same.  All over 16 vaccinated.  That would explain the lack of wrist bands.

My Concieges told me the same….all Suites are full.

Haven’t seen the porn girls since sail away.  But, you’re right…can’t miss them!  Still recuperating from tequila night?

Thanks for taking us along…not sure if you posted this already…were  you able to go  immediately to your stateroom after boarding?

Yes….granted, we boarded about 60-90 minutes after our scheduled boarding time, but went to the embarkation suite lounge and was on board directly.  My Butler happened to be there (doubt he was waiting just for me) and he showed me to my cabin, explained the HVAC, TV, goodies in the fridge, power curtains, etc.

Dropped my luggage off and off I went.

I’m curious about the ports myself.  Will make a note to post something.  From what I know, there are no “special rules”, at least none that anyone has mentioned to me.
