NSWP Posted October 2, 2021 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2021 Ok sports fans, I have been reading some of the 'lives' from the Princess ships overseas that are currently sailing. The sip and cover policy is being implemented and enforced on some ships and not on others. So 'Sip and Cover' is required in bars, lounges, dining rooms and other food areas. You cannot just take your mask off at the table, you can remove the mask, have a sip of your drink or take a piece of food into your mouth then you have to put your mask on again. Sounds a pain to me. This is fair dinkum. What say ye? Will all pax be required to purchase one of these from the on board boutique @ $19.99 plus gratuity? 1 1

SinbadThePorter Posted October 2, 2021 #3 Share Posted October 2, 2021 (edited) The CDC sets the standards for this sort of thing over there and they have not recommended such a practice. "Masks are currently recommended for employees and for customers as much as possible when not eating or drinking and when social distancing measures are difficult to maintain." So I don't know where this is coming from, but if it exists it sounds like someone making up their own rules. It also sounds pretty pointless as it would do nothing to prevent covid spread. Rare gogo65 Posted October 3, 2021 #5 Share Posted October 3, 2021 (edited) Mask on, mask off, touch mask, touch table, touch mask, touch drink, touch mask etc. ridiculous, the whole point of the mask is to reduce the spread, if people are continually taking it on and off, touching umpteem times a minute, there will be a higher risk of transmission! When we get taught to doff (or remove PPE), it is very clear not to touch the inside of or outside of the mask, only touch the strings/cords, to reduce the amount of virus/bacteria on your hands which the reduces spread, now we have masks sitting on tables/back on faces etc Seems like Princess are making their own rules, stupidity?!?! I don't doubt that you've seen this online, but I can't help wondering if it's one of those fake internet memes. I haven't seen it mentioned on the CC Princess forum and I'd think that if it was a thing they'd be up in arms over there. Look at how excited they got over barrel chairs. possum52 Posted October 3, 2021 #12 Share Posted October 3, 2021 (edited) I just looked at Princess' onboard requirements - it is the UK cruises from Southampton that Les is referring to. Will I have to wear a face mask? Whilst we always recommend masks indoors, masks are required at the following locations: in lifts, retail shops, the casino, designated entertainment venues and prior to being seated in all dining areas. Masks are also required during embarkation, disembarkation and when going ashore, in keeping with local guidelines. Certain entertainment venues will be designated as “Sip and Cover” venues where you must wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth except while drinking. We’d always recommend guests wash their mask daily and choose a good quality, ideally medical grade, standard. Elorac123 Posted October 3, 2021 #15 Share Posted October 3, 2021 Reminds me of when I was in a good court in a shopping complex in Dubai and a lady in the full burka bought a Big Mac and a can of coke. The way she managed this was very entertaining. Cheers Carole

I don't like the sound of this Sip and Cover malarky. I do not fancy the Princess Medallion thingy either, too complicated. No red carpet ride. But will I 'Come Back New?' All respect to carnival group but Royal has set a standard and for the industry in general they should share it. But come over to the dark side. 1

icat2000 Posted October 3, 2021 #24 Share Posted October 3, 2021 (edited) The mask rule is stupid when eating and drinking. What the point of forcing people to get the vaccine and you still got to wear that dirty nappy across your face. We are meant to be getting rid of those horrible things. I'm not cruising under those circumstances. Edited October 3, 2021 by icat2000

I do understand your frustration, however us nurses and doctors have had to wear those "dirty nappies" for hours while doing procedures to protect our patients without complaint. You do get used to it, especially when you consider it is for the greater good. Distance between tables is probably a good thing to keep up in a post Covid world.
