helen haywood Posted January 15, 2022 #126 Share Posted January 15, 2022 We’re currently on Edge. Last night the lead singer of the House Band, Spectrum, TWICE requested people at the Martini Bar to please wear masks when they weren’t eating or drinking. She did NOT specifically say WHILE DANCING! so consequently no one on the dance floor paid any heed. But people are morons. If one stops to think about “Wear a mask when indoors unless eating or drinking” obviously dancing maskless two feet away from the singer whose job requires her to be maskless while singing fits the criteria. This is the last day of the cruise. People were wearing masks on the dance floor the first couple of days. 2

We did notice a few days before leaving home that the Celebrity app guidance had changed to reflect that masks would be required, but it was a subtle change in one paragraph that we would not have noticed if we hadnt been following these boards. We are 100% okay with the mask required rule and in fact prefer it but I can attest that we did not receive any advanced warning and can understand OPs who were upset to learn about it only when they showed up at the dock. what on Earth is the matter with people? things have been subject to last minute change for almost 2 years now because of this pandemic. the Omicron variant has added another new complexity. I left of the Equinox on Dec 23. On @ Jan 1 it was announced that masks were now required. This was following numerous cases being diagnosed among passengers and staff. It became apparent that ports were refusing our entry because we had passengers on board that tested positive over a threshold number. This affects everyone. And people expected advanced warning for January 9 ? Anyone who does not understand the fluidity of the situation and the meaning of being flexible has no business sailing with any cruise line at this time. If i had my way, I'd charge each and every one of them a surcharge for being stupid. 7

Even if you goop on a lot of it, if you are exposed to the hot sun (Omicron) and its direct UV rays long enough you will eventually get burned. High SPF sunscreen maybe like a N95 mask, medium SPF sunscreen maybe like a surgical mask, low SPF sunscreen like a cloth 1-layer mask. But prolonged exposure in any case gets you burned. The 95 in an N95 mask means that you still get 5% exposure. Best analogy I've seen!!!!!

At the beginning of the cruise it seemed that everyone was complying but when some people took them off and the staff didn’t say anything then more people stopped wearing them consistently. Or at least that is how it appears to me. Maybe they are being reminded to put them on and I just haven’t seen it. Not trying to start a debate on the merits of the policy, just reporting on what I have been seeing. I still feel safe because the ship is at 25% capacity at most, so it is easy to socially distance. Also everyone is vaxxed and tested. There have been no positive cases that I know of. We are having a great cruise, and I don’t want to discourage anyone from cruising, just reporting on what I see in case strict adherence of the mask requirement is important to you. Just curious, how was the rest of the cruise? Did they ever start enforcing the new indoor masking policy, and were there any positive cases subsequently identified on your Millennium cruise? I didn’t see the mask policy being enforced other than in the buffet. As the cruise progressed it seemed that less people were strictly following the masking rules. Luckily I did not hear of any positive cases. The cruise itself was wonderful! Great service great food and drink. Didn’t love the casino, too small and not enough of the newer slots. Didn’t love the retreat sun deck as there was very few shaded area and the area was vacant most of the cruise. If I were to do it again I would not pay extra from a suite, an Aqua stateroom would have done the trick.
Rare NanaChar Posted January 18, 2022 #133 Share Posted January 18, 2022 Ok. Very silly question. How many masks do you bring per person per day? Does Celebrity supply masks if you run out? I was happy when there was no mask mandate, but with this Omicron wave, it seems a wise choice to put in the rule.

Does Celebrity supply masks if you run out? Just off the Connie. We were provided two Celebrity cloth masks in the cabin. They also had lots of individually wrapped surgical type masks (not KN95) available at multiple venues for people who needed replacements. Often the staff at the entry of the buffet handed them out as well as a way to help enforce the new rule.

I think these were fine back when masking wasn't a big issue on the ship, but now I feel they should provide better masks or none at all. My understanding is you can pick up an additional mask at Guest Services anytime you need a new one. I always bring a box of N95's.

phoenix_dream Posted January 18, 2022 #141 Share Posted January 18, 2022 (edited) As to adherence to policy, currently on Connie and most people are wearing masks except when sitting eating or drinking. Unfortunate exception is in the casino. People sit at a machine and think mask policy does not apply. And no one says anything to them. Have seen security walk right past maskless gamblers without a word. Frustrating for me as we have lots of sea days where I like to try my luck but I also want to stay safe.
